Raiden is the protector and mentor of the Earth Realm Heroes. He gave up almighty powers to become mortal and fight for his realm. The other fighters look down and ridicule Raiden, now that he's mortal, just as they are.

It's definitely Raiden for me Liu Kang is pretty cool and all but the writers really made him come off as weak and even incompetent at times unfortunately and on top of that it's always hard to beat the og

Honestly, I like this Raiden more than... well, whatever they have done with him in MK1. Also, the status of elder god fits him more than Liu Kang. And also original Raiden is more wise, feared and strong, while Liu Kang is dumb, pussy and weak as the god. So yeah, I would rather have better MK than MK1, with better development and with continuation of original story, than all this timeline bull$hit.
