- No wiring, No Power switch and No Motion Sensors are needed. Just PLUG and PLAY. Do it once and forget it.
This is another DIYable project you can pull it off on a weekend afternoon, this time we are taking the advantage of the garage door opener light socket and upgrade it to super bright LED shop lights. This works for #chamberlain #liftmaster garage door openers.

Guys, Home Depot Canada has this Pre-Black Friday good deal (November 12 to 18, 2020), Commercial Electric 3ft. 16W Plug-in White Shop Light, Model: WS-LP04A18CL1 for only $14.88 CAD. The performance is the same as the one I have in the video 4000K light temp and 2 prong, the only difference is: this one comes with a on/off switch but it doesn't come with the hanging hardware (instead it comes with 2 clips). Well that is fine, you can easily use any cord to solve the problem. But it's a steal.. less than $15 each!!! Go buy them before they run out of stock!!!!

Great idea! Those lights come in a 2-pack so I installed them in my 2 car garage. Big improvement. Thanks for the tip.
What a great idea you for sharing and your thoroughness with it
Awesome job ! Love to try this - only thing is where I live - millions of (more) bugs would flock to them where overheads are open at night.
Excellent idea. Thank you!
Play this at 1.5 speed for less aggravation. Guy sounds like he's on Quaaludes.
I liked your idea and installed one unit in part of my garage. After installing the first one I liked it so much I went back and put in a second.
Awesome, I am so glad this simple project helped so many people.
Great Video - I installed the lights and they are awesome - thanks DIYable!
Awesome 👍 glad it helped
Very nice setup. You can also use a large washer between the screw and the wire to hold it up. But other wise awesome setup. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks!!
Nice job 👍🏻
Very nice!
Good idea!! Nice accent.
Thanks Gru.
This hack is perfect! I got some led lights from Costco and had someone wire them in. They only cover half the garage. Had I done this I would have alot better coverage. Thanks for the video! Black Friday project incoming
No problem, glad it helped. Remember to check out other videos of mine, they may help you too.
Great project for this weekend👍
Yes, it's awesome DIY project for the weekend! Let me know the result.
Nice!!!
Love the video! Thanks for this! I have a two car garage with just one garage lift so I will only be able to use just two of the lights. Do you have a recommendation for me to be able to light it up as bright as yours? I've been looking for something to add more lights into but all are well above the 100 dollar mark. Thank you!
Thank you. glad you like it. I believe you can shop for LED shop lights which is brighter and have higher output. Some of the products at Home Depot or Lowe's, they have twin LED, those should be bright. But many of these shop lights are not plug and play, they may require wiring. It's not too hard, you can buy the 2 prong light plug and then follow what I did and use the screwbase adapter. Hope that helps!
Great project! As you mentioned in the beginning of the video, LED may cause interference with garage door opener. Are there anything special with these LED shoplights (e.g. FCC compliant, minimal RF interference)? or are they installed far enough from the opener so the interference is minimal?
Yes it is an awesome weekend project. I love it. They need to install far enough to minimize the interference.
Thanks for the video! I had this idea and sure enough, UA-cam has the answer.
So these didn't affect your door openers at all because you mounted them farther away from the motor unit?
I ended up buying these: amzn.to/3oTrJm4
I installed them horizontally on the ceiling across a 3-car garage, at about the front of the cars. I did not use power from the opener but a separate power switch. They do not affect my openers (Chamberlain Liftmaster Professional) but the tubes did a make a sound. It stopped after I swapped a couple of tubes around. Overall I’m pleased.
Hot glue trick was excellent.
As usual, a super idea which I want to do. Trouble is, the LED shoplight at Home Depot Canada is no longer in stock. All others have 3 prong plugs - any suggestions ? (could not find any other 2 prong LED lights)
OMG... they all run out of stock, I just checked too. Maybe because of pandemic.. what about this one? It's double the price.. but it may work. It looks like 2 prong from U.S web site.

If you take a look at the U.S. web site, the PDF shows 2 prong:

Thank you! Brighter lights, with a toggle switch worth the extra money I think. Just picked them up.
One option is also to use Grounded Adapter - 3-Prong Cord/2-Slot Outlet - White - 2-Pack

can I get a #4?
I have the exact same opener. Bought the exact same lights. Followed your instructions to the letter. Blew the circuit board in the opener.
Odd. No reason low wattage lights would fry a circuit board.
@@TrendyStone Update, all of a sudden it all started working. I love it.
@@TrendyStone The electric wall activation switch with the motion detector was just dead.. I bypassed it to check it, it was really dead. Friend told me it was the circuit board. Was going to order one, two days later I went into the garage one night and it was working. There was no prayer or magic words, it just came back to life.
@@angusmctavish8978 interesting. Electronics can be that way. Finicky.
Incandescent still work good. They aren't on long enough to use much energy. Expensive LEDs don't last in my experience. I use the cheap ones everywhere else.
I've had more than a few screw-in LED bulbs fail way before their time, but have not lost one single LED shop light.
Get the rough service bulbs. They are designed to handle the vibration of the door opener. I generally get several years out of mine.
Concept it awesome but the fixtures are terrible. I had a power outage last night and when the power returned the lights must have turned on and burned out. I've had them about a month. Thank goodness I saved the box so back to Home Depot they go. If you read the reviews others have had the same issue. These are very temperamental LEDs.
Is that Elmer Fudd?
Love the Dracula accent . Was this suppose to be Halloween video ?
Gru
Exactly hahahahaha😆
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
FYI: 2:32 The likely reason for the limits printed on bulb size has little to do with the outlet itself. A bulb rated higher than those listed may end up melting the plastic cover due to the heat produced.
Thats possible, however the 100w incandescent is going to be far hotter than the 26w CFL. Still makes no sense.
I was wondering because i planned to daisy chain 4 leds
Refreshing to see 🇨🇦 flag in intro. 👍
I’ll be back
It’s a good video and I appreciate the idea but I gotta say If Arnold Schwarzenegger and Elmer Fudd had a kid he would sound just like this guy !
My garage door opener is so old that the light doesn’t come on till the door opens all the way and only stays on for about one minute, I hate it!😫😤
Gunten morgan.
looked good until the glue part. if you have to glue a plug together something is wrong
That hot glue part is not the most elegant I have to agree but it worked. The reason behind that is because we have to understand about the quality of those made in China adapter and the quality of the prong. Sometimes they are loose just like any 120V appliance in the house. That's the best solution I have.
Wassup with the voice?
Gru
Just screw in inexpensive LED bulbs. Never had a problem... save $95
It's good that works for you, but many garage door openers don't work with LED bulb. Because LED has radio interference when installed on the unit, as a result your remote will randomly works.
@@DIYable so do you have radio interference with the strip lights? I tried led bulbs in our opener and it would open fine but once the lights come on and the interference starts it had a difficult time closing. Does this solution still have a similar problem?
I agree. I have 4 garage door openers and just screw in LED bulbs and they work fine. Same for all my relatives. No interference.
You need to get rid of some of that shit from your garage.
LOL... Yes, that's a lot of crap in my garage hahahahaha
Why do you have to “Sing” the message, very annoying
Get someone you can understand
Who's narrating this video? Sheeh's redo it in your NATURAL voice!!! It's too distracting from what you're trying to get across to your viewer!
Seriously. Super annoying. Otherwise great.
Awful delivery
Lame computer generated voice. I’m out.
