    I have been a mechanic for 13 years and dnt recommend using tools to tighten filters as they can cause issues for the next person that services the vehicle also puts a lot of stress on the seals of filters not recommended otherwise great diy video for those wanting to tackle the job by then selves also don't forget to use engine oil flush for those wanting the best out of their engines

    • @DanvsCar
      @DanvsCar  7 років тому +5

      Thanks mate, only use the tool to give the filter a slight tighten. I also dont recommend going crazy on it.
      If you only do them up hand tight and 4wd on corrugated road, its possible for it to come undone. Id rather take the extra step to make sure its firm. (in the Toyota service Manuel there is actually a torque setting for it)
      Ive worked on cars which I had to shove screwdrivers through as it was done up to tight. (back then I was using a belt tool to undo filters, so they always got crushed, now I mostly use the sockets type).
      The oil flush is a double edge sward, its good that it cleans your engine, but bad if your engine is not well maintained. It can loosen large lumps of carbon buildup/ sludge and block the oil pickup/ oil passages.
      If I do a flush on a car i know is not well maintained, I do a few oil swaps after the flush, helps remove any big items.
      Sometime its better to leave it alone! or you cause more issues/ cost for the clients.

      Instead of putting engine oil on the O-ring, put some silicone grease and tighten the filter 1/8 hard after contact

      @yandel7092 I used this once and at the next oil change the filter was almost impossible to remove. It was stuck hard.

      @@i-am-that-what-i-amI argee, tools make the job easier. A filter has a recommended torque angle after the gasket touches. I always following the recommended specifications by marking the starting point with a ink pen. This might sound pedantic but this verifies the correct torque angle. Cheers

    Just a tip. When you're filling from a large drum, put the outlet at the top of the drum to reduce glugging. Filling lawnmowers benefits from this as well.

      Dan vs Car Wih the fuel filter
      I placed an old rag below, then slipped a plastic shopping bag around the filter.
      Spun filter off, all diesel and filter caught in bag
      Not a single drop of fuel on me or the vehicle

      You can also use the water drain tap on the bottom and connect a little hose to it.

    With the fuel filter you can fill it up with diesel before installing it back on the car so you don't have to prime it, because that can take a long time sometimes especially if you have a low fuel level in the tank too

    I have a 1HD-FTE when I fill it up 8 litres with the oil filter and check the dipstick it shows full then when I drain 8 litres and Add 10 litres on the next oil change also change the oil filter it shows near empty on the dipstick so I had to add 0.7 litres more totalling in 10.7 now and it shows more than full in the morning as you said it need 11.4 litres so when I start the engine and it warms up the oil then again go to a point on full. How can it be full if its 10.7 litres filled and the full capacity is 11.4 and what was the situation before when it showed full on 8 litres can anyone guide me it would be a great help Thank you buddy for making this guide

    I know this is an older video now, but still obviously relevant to the engines it relates to. I really appreciate the videos, as it gives me plenty more confidence to work on my rig. I have a low kms '05 Sahara FTE that I regularly service. I've been trying to work out why my air filter sensor light comes on the dash when i'm giving it some berries. The old air filter I replaced (was pretty bad but not horrendous) gave instant extra power and you can tell it was breathing better and using less fuel. It feels great, smooth, and faster but the air filter dash light still comes on under medium to hard acceleration. Any ideas? I'm stumped. Only thing I can think of is checking if line to turbo or line into engine has blockages, or junk? Any ideas? It has me buggered

    I've read that some people change their filter and oil at different intervals? I assume that you can just remove the oil filter no problem since it's on the top of the 1HZ? I have to reseat my filter because the dealer messed it up and it's leaking a little from the filter.

    Hi Dan. Good vids mate and want to encourage you to keep doing them. Content and coverage is good so far so keep it up and don't change what you're doing (unless it's for the better - but hard to beat what you're already doing!) How long do you reckon before you'll get onto doing a service on a 200 series so I can start learning how to service the bloody thing. Useless user manual limits me to topping up the oil, checking coolant level and detecting oddities and then bam ... get in touch with the dealer!! Grrrr. But your articles and depth of coverage are good mate so keep it up.
    Where are you based?

    • @DanvsCar
      @DanvsCar  7 років тому

      G'Day PaulnSans, thanks for your encouragement! Keeps me wanting to make more vids when I get comments!
      I have a few friends who have 200s, Ill have a chat with them and see if I can make a video on one. There is a 200s what ill be doing a walk around on sometime this year as well (neat and well kitted out).
      Yes the provided user manual is only good for basic checkups and how to use functions, would be nice if they had some decent information though!
      I try and include as much information as possible, it takes a long time to make these videos, edit and type up the informations. Not easy doing it all on your own! (this is why it takes me a long time to upload content)
      Im based on the Gold Coast (australia)

    • @PaulMotu
      @PaulMotu 7 років тому +2

      I'll keep an eye on the channel mate and when you get a 200 then all well and done. However, you've got your beast to keep working on and there are many who would like to see you do more on that. I'm just being selfish hahaha.
      Don't stress about the time it takes mate. I understand that, but you explain your stuff well all the way through very nicely. QUALITY rather than QUANTITY is what you've done so far and so should be your ongoing performance standard and that's how you'll make a quality channel for yourself. Good luck with getting more Patreon supporters mate! Try and see if you can build some of the work around highlighting certain tool brands perhaps and therefore try and build partnerships with those companies eg Snap On and also suppliers of parts eg Super Cheap and approach them with a view to seeing if they'd be happy to become commercial Patreon supporters in return for your using their products and services. Just a few thoughts mate but good luck and keep it up!

    • @DanvsCar
      @DanvsCar  7 років тому

      Yes lots to do on this car! Have some rust to fix so will be showing how to repair and respray as well.
      Nothing wrong with being selfish haha, give me ideas on the kind of videos to create (have so many planned not sure where to start)
      Lots and lots of custom wiring needs to be done for the rear draw wiring as well (Might come in handy for you).
      Once I get a few more subscribers ill be hitting up all the big parts suppliers around here, I have made some friends in the industry so hopefully they can help me out (business don't like to help unless they get something out of it as well)
      But thanks again, good to have a chat with a fellow enthusiast.

      Will give the Z699 a go on my 1hz, I will check out the micron rating as well, not good having it to fine as the pump could struggle supplying enough fuel. But im willing to test it out.

    @chrisblake5924 6 років тому +1

    Hi, is there any benefit to filling the oil filter with clean oil before installing it?? I have always done it and noticed you didnt, am i just making a mess for no reason?

    • @DanvsCar
      @DanvsCar  6 років тому +2

      Hello Chris,
      On the 1hz/ 1HD-FTE engines, there is no need to fill them up. Just makes a massive mess and that about it.
      If you service the car when its hot/ warm and start it straight after you replace all the bits then its even better! Less wear and tear when its warm.
      There will be residual oil in the pump and oil in all the components.
      I only fill filters if they are not mounted to the block or mounted facing down.
      If you are worried about it, you can flick the key a few times (without starting the engine) and this will also prime the filter.
      With a 1hz you can pull the glow plug fuse and spin the engine a few times.
      1HD-FTE there are also ways of shutting the injector pump off. But not worth all the effort.
      Hope this helps!

    • @EdgeMasterPro
      @EdgeMasterPro 5 років тому

      Dan vs Car 1HZ in a Toyota Coaster here. Not pulled the glow plug fuse but have pulled the relay it just fires up or do you do a few quick flicks of the ignition.

    • @DanvsCar
      @DanvsCar  5 років тому

      You can do a few quick flicks, but the oil pump needs rpm to build up pressure to move the oil. If you dropped the oil quickly then started the car within 2hrs of your oil/ filter change. There shouldn't be any excess wear as all parts are still lubricated.

      +khan niazi Hello mate, going Well!! Busy busy!!
      So best engine for reliability is the 1HZ. Best power/ reliability would be the 1HD-T.
      Then 1HD-FTE is a monster with power, but it is electronically controlled so it's more prone to have electrical bugs out bush.
      To be honest 1HD-T is the best of both worlds and is plug and play in your 80s. (Also much cheaper then the 1HD-FTE.

      Dan vs Car thanks alot for ur help. I really appreciate your work. keep on doing it. can i convert Manual into Auto transmission? will it run perfect with 1HD-T and tell me about the auto tranmission model or anything regarding. plz guide.

    • @DanvsCar
      @DanvsCar  7 років тому

      Got a few vids in the editing stage!!
      Yes you can convert from manual to auto. You will need a few parts to do the conversion, transmission mount, shifter/ surround, peddle , wiring, transmission, torque converter, flex plate and a auto radiator.
      Now you have 2 gearboxes to chose from, the 4 speed and 5 speed.
      4 speed is going for towing and 4wding. But gets hot so I recommend putting a cooler on it.
      5 speed is also good for towing but better for hwy driving.
      I would recommend the 5 speed auto. While your there also install a cooler to help with performance.
      A lock up switch would come in handy as well.
      If you join a forum called "Lcool" (is a forum for all Landcruiser owners) it has a lot of information about the conversions.

      As you will make a mess. The engine grabs oil pressure quickly so its not something which needs to done.

    Hello sir, I heard 100 series is more electric and hence is not easy to repair and have high maintenance cost in comparison to 80 series that is simply and easy to repair. Is that true ?

      The injector pump costs slightly more to service yes, other then that, very similar price.

    Dan vs Car Hi how often we need to change automatic transmission fluid and fuel filter ?

    • @DanvsCar
      @DanvsCar  7 років тому

      1313AslanBey hello. if it's the auto box on the 1hd-fte it is a sealed unit. I'm currently camping and will check the service intervals. can you confirm your engine please?
      With the fuel filter it depends on the fuel quality in your area. Usually every 10,000km is what I recommend.

      Here is a good reference document for service intervals. 40,000km is recommended. www.lcool.org/technical/100_series/service-specs-100series.pdf

      Those models don’t ever need the auto trans fluid changed. I’ve had mine for 16 years never touched it and still bright red and no issues. It even says on the dipstick not to change the fluid.

    Hi Dan great video thanks for sharing. Just have a question if you can help with I have a 2006 landcruise 100 series deisel 1HD-FTE and its automatic transmission. I have a problem shifting the high range lever it is stuck in high. I have tried lifting up rear of the car to release tension on gears and tried to move lever no luck. Can you give any ideas on what to do. The truck is not a full time 4wd. The lever is high range neutral and low range. It has a short shaft that goes on top of the gear box and has four bolts holding it. Any help would be appreciated.

      Hello! Sorry I didnt get a notification about your comment!
      Ok this is a common problem with the toyota transfer cases. If the Hi/Low range stick is not used for a long time they do become "tight".
      As you mentioned it has 4 bolts holding it down, we remove those, remove the stick and WD40 the inside. This usually helps, put the stick back in and cycle through high, neutral and low.
      I cycle throw mine at least once a month to prevent this from happening.
      If this does not help let me know and ill give you a few other things to try.
      Cheers (Y)

      Thanks Dan it's been fixed I had to pull the lever off completely and pull apart and move leaver while in vise using wd40. Then used some small amount of grease. It works perfect now. It was rusty before. After having got it to move I cleaned all rust and greased it up and now it's perfect. Thanks again for your reply.

      Great to hear! Every week move the stick a few times and this will stop it from happening again :)

      Там где находится вал-пустая полость, я забил эту полость смазкой для подшипников, теперь вал не будет ржаветь никогда. 👍

      @DanvsCar  5 років тому

      Hello, just confirming.
      You have replaced all shocks on the car which has 'high adjustable' suspension. But it does not work anymore now?
      You need to check and see if you have any error codes with an OBD reader.
      It could be sensor, cable or a few others things.

    but how can you well grees the propeller shaft there is no right place for to lubricate the car

    • @DanvsCar
      @DanvsCar  6 років тому

      There are 3 geese nipples per shaft. 1 on each uni joint and 1 on the slip joint.
      If it has aftermarket unis, some of them have no greese points.

      The one and only!
      Are you getting a engine light? manuel or auto? does the RPM go over 2500?
      Need some more info please!
      How many km has the car done, is it well maintained, have the injectors been done, hand any turbo work, did you pick up any dirty fuel.
      Cheers!
      Dan

    • @DanvsCar
      @DanvsCar  7 років тому

      Does it feel like its engine or gearbox? Could also be the bands in the box slipping.
      Have you checked your air filter? or checked if anything is blocking the intake? blocked the EGR system? (could be stuck open)
      Checked to see if any of the brake rotors are stuck? after a drive are the hubs hot?

      If you are talking about the wire on the fuel filter, you can disconnect it from the car. Then unscrew the filter.
