The 1HZ is a very strong, reliable engine that just keeps going. It’s incredibly slow, but it just doesn’t die. It feels like driving a tractor but you can always rely on it. The only issue with the 1HZ is when it comes to sand driving, where you really feel it’s lack of power if it’s over sand dunes.
1HDFTE, the 1HZ is a slug, still an utra reliable engine but nothing compared to the 1hd-fte in terms of power. You can put a low boost turbo on the 1hz but anything more will blow up your 1hz.
Only thing i have a problem with is the 2.8 hilux is literally just this engine minus 2 cylinders, and better balancing and vibration handling in the crank plus dont need a forged crank either unless you want more than 20 PSI Only problem with the 2.8 is that it cant take load at all, its good when the cars full but if it then also has to tow something then it becomes an issue, but even then you can negate thag by getting 4.8 diffs and reduction gears then 31 by 10.5 and you shouldnt have much trouble Really the only problems ive come across in the 2.8 is that it gets a little hot sometimes when turboed, and the main weared parts are around cylinder 3 back. If yoy want to turbo a 2.8 you need to rebuild the injectors, get a boost compensated pump and then hook it all up and it shouldnt over fuel it nor under fuel it, if you just use the stock pump it runs too rich and the load on the engine is increased, plus its only looking to be about 1000 for a boosted pump hopefully.
Hi bro..i have the 2.8 you are talking about and looking with envy on this hd engine😬. So we are in the same boat talking about turboing our asthmatic 2.8😅. Hey but take heart the 2.8 na will survive a nuclear holocaust 🙂
@@hokz7283 oh yea NA they will go forever and theyre a good starter car, but ive been researching alot on how these engines fail and what you need to make them efficient, cause thats what a turbo on the 2.8 is really for you gotta think its already getting over fueled stock cause theres not enough air being sucked in. If you get a boost compensated pump thatll stop it being really rich at thw start and then leaning out, and youll actually be able to get it tuned to 20 psi with a good turbo
@@samtimo3002 can we not just adjust the fuel enrichment screw to allow for lesser fuel then stock setting?. I have heard that turboing the 2.8d is not a good idea because of overheat issue. As for fuel efficiency issue is it possible to slightly advance the fuel pump to gain something? Here in my country we don't have any 2Lt engines to source exhaust manifold for turbo. I even thought of trying the isuzu 4ja1 turbo system on it.
@@hokz7283 try looking at the later 5L hiluxes theyre manifolds work great thats what im using rn, same ambidextrous pattern And if you get a boost compensated pump and a proper tune your EGTs will be down low asf, the only over heating issue youll get is when the 2.8s coolant system is fucked, like the oil is being cooled but the coolant in the head via the oil filter, if you take that off where the oil filter bolts to theres like a cooling jacket that has oil passages in the head of the coolant passage And those idiots that say turboing the 2.8 is bad are fucking retarded, the bloke im getting my engine built at has put a turbo set up on a hilux before after 200 thousand ks, all he done was injectors and a boost compensated pump, with a professional tune and he said he used to thrash the cunt out of the thing And the reason why i say get a tune is because you need one my mate with a TD42 patrol put a mambo turbo on it or something like that upgraded the intercooler and had high asf EGTs when he tuned it himself, said he wanted yo grt it tuned but sold it and bought a bike instead Also if your using the stock pump what will happen is itll pump the fuel, but too much when your foots to the floor and when the boosties come online itll be lean asf And yes you can time it in a certain direction to gain more NA power but im not that advanced just yet, im still learning how to turbo shit myself and tbh im gonna get the bloke im building it with time it all up properly
The basic block is mostly the same. It's the rotating assembly and cylinder head that's the real headache. And the fuel pump setup. I've seen some push a HZ-T to 500WHP so there's a big chance you can transplant the innards.
I have the same model 100 series and was wondering relating to the oil pressure you showed , was that idling from cold start. my pressure goes up to 1/2 on cold and under load but when idling goes down to 1/4

Save a fortune in oil had the oil tested At 30,000 klms still ok soot particles were 0.4 ppm max allowed 2.0 ppm
The filters are separate to the factory filters.
And finer 2 micron fuel and oil .
Factory filters 10 microns
Nice video Bro
Hello what do you think a bout 1hz ist good ?? Specially for off road ,mud , desert...
Hi bro which one engine is better 1HZ or 1HD FTE or petrol uz please tell me?
Thanks
1HDFTE, the 1HZ is a slug, still an utra reliable engine but nothing compared to the 1hd-fte in terms of power. You can put a low boost turbo on the 1hz but anything more will blow up your 1hz.
Is it 1HD FTE 80 or 100 series?
80 series and 100 series
I just bought my 100 LC 4.2td😂! 1 million miles easy!!!!! 95k currently
1hz for the win
Only thing i have a problem with is the 2.8 hilux is literally just this engine minus 2 cylinders, and better balancing and vibration handling in the crank plus dont need a forged crank either unless you want more than 20 PSI
Only problem with the 2.8 is that it cant take load at all, its good when the cars full but if it then also has to tow something then it becomes an issue, but even then you can negate thag by getting 4.8 diffs and reduction gears then 31 by 10.5 and you shouldnt have much trouble
Really the only problems ive come across in the 2.8 is that it gets a little hot sometimes when turboed, and the main weared parts are around cylinder 3 back.
@@hokz7283 also apparently someones putting a 2hdt in a hilux and thats because he seen a RB30 swap
@@hokz7283 try looking at the later 5L hiluxes theyre manifolds work great thats what im using rn, same ambidextrous pattern
And if you get a boost compensated pump and a proper tune your EGTs will be down low asf, the only over heating issue youll get is when the 2.8s coolant system is fucked, like the oil is being cooled but the coolant in the head via the oil filter, if you take that off where the oil filter bolts to theres like a cooling jacket that has oil passages in the head of the coolant passage
And those idiots that say turboing the 2.8 is bad are fucking retarded, the bloke im getting my engine built at has put a turbo set up on a hilux before after 200 thousand ks, all he done was injectors and a boost compensated pump, with a professional tune and he said he used to thrash the cunt out of the thing
And the reason why i say get a tune is because you need one my mate with a TD42 patrol put a mambo turbo on it or something like that upgraded the intercooler and had high asf EGTs when he tuned it himself, said he wanted yo grt it tuned but sold it and bought a bike instead
Also if your using the stock pump what will happen is itll pump the fuel, but too much when your foots to the floor and when the boosties come online itll be lean asf
And yes you can time it in a certain direction to gain more NA power but im not that advanced just yet, im still learning how to turbo shit myself and tbh im gonna get the bloke im building it with time it all up properly
Serious question.
Is it possible to make a brand new 1hdfte using the 1hz block and aftermarket parts?
Will the cooling jacket and gaskets fit?
The basic block is mostly the same. It's the rotating assembly and cylinder head that's the real headache. And the fuel pump setup. I've seen some push a HZ-T to 500WHP so there's a big chance you can transplant the innards.
Loving engine i still love it
how is the next diesel v8 on j200 compared with this ?........j200 not so old........
I have the same model 100 series and was wondering relating to the oil pressure you showed , was that idling from cold start. my pressure goes up to 1/2 on cold and under load but when idling goes down to 1/4
Yes it is. I have noticed on the late model 5at cars the oil pressure doesn't go up nearly as high as the 5at cars have VSV
@@TAI-lr5vrMy oil pressure does exactly what is said here , hdj100 2006 , 1/2 cold & under load , 1/4 hot idle . Excuse my ignorance but what does VSV stand for ?
@@barbraabsalom4531 VSV stands for vacuum switching valve which I must admit I got wrong. What I should have meant was the swirl flaps decreasing the oil pressure
Make a video on the 2AD-FHV please!
Great engine no doubt about it
Hi boss. Ada beza ka 4s dan 5s ? Sabahan here 👋
Do you have any social media? Would love to follow you and your work!
Hey there, my social media is the same as the YT account name. @tai392 on Instagram. Though these sorts of projects only come every 2 months or so due to time constraints like work and research material hard to pin down with most being in Japanese 😂
How many hp you can put out of this engine
Excellent review. I just want to ask you what do you think about the last Toyota Diesel engine 2.8. - 1GD-FTV ? Thanks
agreed probably best engine toyota has made. but unfortunately these go for 12k+ now so if youre wanting an engine swap and big power, people with that large of a budget are looking at duramax's and cummins as theyre bigger and more powerful and in similar price range
Thanks for your input, but unfortunately cummins, duramax's are prohibitively expensive here in Malaysia where the roadtax for a LB7 would cost 1,300 USD a year. Even if its registered as a utility vehicle.
u underated siall
Ada ka mau jual ninja king bgni? Brapa bajet
Such a shame they never made this in common rail
Aint got a bar on the 12ht
Gdday mate
I wish we had these commonly available in the states. I would sell a kidney for a Land Cruiser with one of these diesels
You will able to get the holy grail of FTE'S soon. 2003 5at VGT turbo cars are soon to be eligible for import in 2027/2028
Wow bro 👍
Thank you!
Looks and sounds like modern cousin of 12HT
Is it 4 or 5 speed?
This particle example is a 4 speed
Greatest is the 12HT then the L engines(2L,3L,5L), then the 1HD series.
I'll stand firmly behind the 3l 2.8 diesel
Hard to beat
@@kresdubbin3541 4j?
HD=High-speed Diesel
Do a 1kd video pls
There will be some on the 4jj1 and 1kd when there's a vehicle I can borrow
I'd give my left kidney to get a Toyota Diesel here in America.
Why not the right?
They’re being sold now!
@@therealchicken7395 they are?
Me living in America just wishing I could get an fte. pretty pricey over here
You'll love it trust me. The price reflects that sadly 😂
Bagus bro!
Id sell my kids for that diesel in the usa
Same for us drooling over your 5.9 24V cummins and 6.6L duramax. Stay Tuned for the Toyota equivalent 😂
Have 1HD-FT in 80, very reliable engine, can't argue with that. But can't wait to replace it with 6.6 Duramax. Toyota engines never good at power output
Bro what your torquing about. Il buy your 1hdft if your gonna move in on. I'm in Perth western Australia. Let me know
@@mechanic7430 There are no issues with the reliability, durability, and dependability of 1HD-FT engine. If it would have extra grunt it would be a great engine. I live too far away from the land of Australia. And I am moving along 6.6 is the way to go in land cruiser, plenty of power and torque.
1vd fte next please
Working it on it but it's gonna be a mission since there is not a lot of information out there
@@TAI-lr5vr heaps of info about them, every cruiser in aus that in it
@@brocksinclair66 it's well documented but I don't have enough material in hand atm
Compared to the 12HT, sorry, 1HD-FTE doesn't come close
It's a SOHC not a DOHC like you said at 0:59
you are right
1hd=direct injection
1hz=Indirect injection
Oh ya i didn't mentioned that. Maybe a whole family of hd/Hz engines rundown is in order 😂
