  • In this video I showcase a live tick I found inserted in my body. I show it off and talk about the life cycle of ticks and how to prevent and remove ticks if they attach to you. This video will be helpful for outdoor enthusiasts, hikers and others who may run into ticks.

      ha ha it would definitely kill the tick, but not too safe for your skin unless you are a robot.

    WILD video! Thanks for the tips! I got dozens of those little buggers on an adventure in Oklahoma, but outside of that, I don’t ever run into them! They are a nuisance, but quite an interesting little creature! Love your content, keep it up! :)

    We have a LOT of ticks in Michigan. We used to find them on our dogs and horses all the time until we got chickens. I’ve seen two ticks in 5 years since having free range chickens. Controlling nature with nature 😊

    So they detect CO2 do they? Ha, they’ll never catch me if I hold my breath.

    • @InsectHunter
      @InsectHunter  5 років тому +3

      In theory yes, but they can also detect movement and heat to some degree according to my understanding. As to which sense is the most important I can't say. I have heard a lot of people working with more dangerous insects say that they hold their breath or manipulate their breathing at some points because it can cause reactions in insects.

    We dropped a tick in a fish tank once and it was walking around in the water for a long time. I pulled a bunch of big fat ticks off a dog once. And great video!

    my super worm beetle got out but I found him behind some books. I'm trying to start a super worm farm. For my ants and frogs. I only have one beetle but I got one on the way he's a pupa right now.

    Aye, what about collecting and preserving ticks?

    • @InsectHunter
      @InsectHunter  5 років тому

      You preserve them in alcohol and you want to use a pure muslin sweeping net with no mesh on the end.

      @Insect hunter, When it warms up a bit I can make some more of them resin encased insects, I got some mantises, mantis fly, and since my bees died I can put some of them in resin too. I found the queen too.

    I like your channel man, I live in South Africa, where we have a LOT of incredible, diverse insects (I'm an expat I moved here) I have a University Degree in Media Journalism. So I am excellent at capturing footage, images and since a child I have loved insects. Here in SA I have observed certain types of insects, Parktown Prawns, Giant Centipedes, An array of unique Beetles all doing stuff that has previously gone un-documented (at least as far as I can tell from my research) I always wanted to do videos similar to yours. Perhaps we could work together? I'm in my late 20's, educated and currently have a lot of spare time on my hands. Message me.

    Do you want Lyme disease? Cuz that's how you get Lyme disease

    • @InsectHunter
      @InsectHunter  5 років тому

      It can't transmit the disease by walking on my skin. When it was inserted in me I removed it as fast as possible to lower chances of an infection. That is why I didn't record the actual removal. Once it wasn't feeding it was just a wandering arachnid to me as long as it didn't insert itself. Thanks for watching! I will be careful of the Lyme disease.
