He said it sometimes won't go into 1st. I had the same problem in my 98 Jetta tdi! All he needs to do is replace the shifter bushing and replace the gear oil! It's a relatively easy job at least in the Jetta, I didn't even have to remove the exhaust I just had to let it sag, remove the heat shielding and the shifter box drops right down! After I replaced the main shifter bushing with centers the cables in order to accurately move the cogs un front it felt like a brand new car! I used to have that problem at ever stoplight, now it have only happened once in two years!!
I dont know what he means by Corrado on turns sounding like a kid shaking his toy box because i owned a 1994 Corrado VR6 2.8L and it was super stable on the curves and turns. It was the most awesome car i owned and now i have a 2004 SVT Lightning, same feeling but heavier truck with a 5.4L motor with Supercharger at 400 hp.

I owned an '89 G60 back in the late 90's. It was my first car, I saw it and fell in love with it, the guy who sold it to me wasn't even the first owner but the car was always well taken care of, full service history etc. I remember even at the dealer they would look at you funny if you came in with one, there simply weren't many people who owned one. I always had the feeling you were better off with club members and tuners when it came down to dealing with some of it's special perks, like G-charger maintenance. But boy was it fun to drive, it was a very fast car. chipped and a smaller pulley made it tip 200hp and combined with it's light weight it was able to max out the speedometer. I had to sell it when I migrated but I have very fond memories of the car. The car doesn't exist where I live now, otherwise I would have one as a hobby car, and baby it.
It's faster than I thought it would be. scares the crap outta me sometimes. :-) Remember though: Volvo 850's (the 10 valves and 20's too ( non turbo's) have their little quirks. ;-)
That headlight part.. I drove my SAAB for almost 2 years thinking the I - II - III settings on the lights dial were for high-beam, and it was instead on the left-hand stalk :|. I found out when I got the car MOT'd and the service guy just casually pulled on it to test the lights. I was equally amazed and embarrassed but faked it enough till I left the service with a "yes, I knew everything worked correctly, of course" expression.
The flexing of the body often appears when the car was on hard coilovers for a couple of years. Because the shock isnt absorbed as well anymore then it was with the stock suspension the metal starts to work and gets soft in the process. You see this a lot on the first s-line cars from audi wich had a very hard suspension stock and now are all wobbling around. I own an audi cabriolet from '97 wich is based on the audi 80 b4. It was one of the first vehicels offered with s-line (then called s-package) and it had very hard shocks in it its entire life. The fact that it is a cabriolet also does'nt help. When i drive over a curb in a shallow angle you can see the trunk moving differently then the rest of the car.
US Corrado was "castrated". It has 2.8 vr6 engine rated- 174hp. European Corrado was equipped with 2.9 vr6 engine- 190hp stock. The same thing was done to E36 M3.

Gotta love that german engineering with those radiator fans. Why are german cars so highly regarded again? Keep is simple stupid. You don't need a computer control module for a god damned radiator fan.
That "German engineering" was more of an 80's thing... 90's German cars have some pretty stupid design choices. I got window switches all the way behind the seat on the center console in my Opel.
Torque Effect I remember doing work on my a3 golf, simple but there were some dumb things. hated the clutch design, the shifter design was excellent, the starter being mounted with the engine mounts didn't like that, other than that it wasn't bad.
German cars are highly regarded because they do all the right things excellent. Some things might be over engineered but they are perfect where it matters. Radiator fans don't matter.
