How could you talk about this show, and not discuss the Best Villain in TV history more. There is even famous social engineering gambits & stratagems based off it... Really impressive. My Grandparents used to watch Lou Grant re- runs, so I also knew the show and it's amazing to learn both us, the children, and the grandparents used to watch and like technically the same people. By the way, I grew up in Spain, watching Spanish dubbed versions, so, we were never able to recognise any of the voices in other shows.

Loved this as a kid and loved it as an adult. Someone give it a big time animated remake. As long as we still got Keith David and Jonathan Frakes were good
Gargoyles became part of my childhood and taught me so many life lessons throughout the entire series, the comics were awesome and the new continuation that just started has been incredible. The series taught the concept that not all heroes look or even ARE human looking, nor should have to be. Basically, they are the defenders of the night. They are Gargoyles!
I can't believe I forgot about this TV show. I used to love it when I was a kid. I have to say i am surprised to learn that this was a Disney show. This is news to me. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
I was in high school when Gargoyles came out. My English Literature class was reading the works of Shakespeare. I loved how Gargoyles used Shakespeare plays like A Midsummer Night's Dream and MacBeth in their storylines.
I 100% agree with you! The 90s was more than just a simple boom, it became an explosion of unique talents, creative ideas and story-driven narratives that still has his fans raving about long after! Gargoyles can definitely say it had a hold on us and I still love it to this day! Thank God for the NECA toys coming out to celebrate our love even further! Also, Gummi Bears ROCKED!!!
Hell. YEAH!! But I still can't believe NOBODY mentions the awesome Arthurian-arc! We had an entire story centered around Camelot! And also worth mentioning; I remember the comics being pretty remarkable for their time too. There was even an issue that centered around a vampire, something that was quite taboo in the 90s. But Still; an awesome show, and a great video! =)
Ooh, the only good part of waking up at 6 in the morning on a school day for a 13 year old me was Gargoyles! It was dark and mature, that's why you had to wake up early for it!
It was evening time for me. At my grandma's with my brother and a couple of cousins, my Grandma kept an eye on. But I do have this one French show I woke up at 7am on weekends to watch because I had a crush on the main character. So, I've seen worse 😂
Thank you for making this video, it was my favourite show when I was a kid and definitely helped me get hooked on mythology and Shakespeare and dark fantasy and so much more. I remember reading an article a few months back about a possible reboot of the show. If it does happen it really needs to be done right, there are just too many disappointing reboots and remakes that make we want to tear my eyes out in frustration. Anyway, thanks again and keep it up 😃
Never gave the show much thought when it aired. When I met my (now wife) in '98 she was a huge fan. Ended up getting the seasons on DVD and watching them all and loved the series as well. I get whatever merch I can for her still (have the whole Funko Pop collection and trying to locate the current NECA figures in Canada
And I had just released a short discussing the Gargoyles comic and then @joblo does a full on series synposis in a matter of days hehe. Loved all of this. Journey through memory lane I often revisit.
Gargoyles was epic and awesome and dark. I was born in the early 1990s, but I missed the show on Disney because I was watching Batman and Power Rangers mostly. I saw one episode and parts of other episodes as a kid, but never got hooked. That all changed when I was in GED school and found the series on DVD at the library and my brother and I fell in love with Gargoyles. Brooklyne was our favorite character of the series. I also loved Talon and Maggie. The series needs to be remade or there should be a series about Talon and his clan.
So glad that I have the DVD's so I dont have to give Disney anything. I love this show so much, its one of my all time favorites. The third season was never put to dvd, probably for the best. Season one and two though are GOLD.
The eighties was the era of fun, silly shows with the exception of Robotech, which clearly helped pave the way for the more serious series with story arcs we got in the nineties. Gargoyles and EXOSQUAD are my favorite cel-animated series of the nineties. I was fortunate to be able to attend one of the Gathering conventions when it came close to LA.
My friend and I watched it all during 2020 lockdown and whilst I remember enjoying it as a kid I absolutely loved it now. The characters and story have complexity whilst being easy to understand for younger audiences. The voicework for the most part is outstanding. I would love it to come back but they'd have to replace Hudson and have his character pass on as there is no recasting that would work I feel. My main concern other than more constrictive rules being imposed on the writing would be what animation they would use. I can't imagine it looking good in ay other style, especially not if they tried to force them to do it in 3D. Anyway, if they did do it they need to get a move on so we can have as many returning cast as possible.
Gargoyles just FN rocked. The mythology, the story, the settings and of course the characters. I'd love to see a live action film series and I look to the Underworld franchise as that is close to the tone and setting to this series. Det Elisa and Demona are such great female characters really should be considered as pioneers in how they were presented back in the 90s
The Star Trek connection with Gargoyles was incredible. The only one that missed out in voicing Gargoyles is Patrick Stewart. Jonathan Frakes' design with the face reminded me of William Ryker from TNG when I watched it as a kid during the 90s.
@@RichO1701e Agreed. Nichelle Nichols voicing Diane Maza, Eliza's mom so good. Rocky Carroll from NCIS voicing Derek Maza, Kate Mulgrew voicing Lady Titania wife of Oberon, Brent Spiner voicing Puck with Jeff Bennett voicing his human counterpart Owen Bennett while Peter Scolari's character was the reference model that Puck used as the human disguise for Owen Bennett. Peter Scolari's character was the assistant to Halcyon Renard voiced by Robert Culp.
"What Happened to Gargoyles" hahaha this was great. Usually i use to see you asking what Happened with real peoples but this time with characters from animacion with wast kind of touching i lovling and i was very happy to see it.
@@VALonUA-cam The multi episode opening to this show was probably my favourite start to a series when this aired. Plus Clancy Brown and Keith David together is a pairing that should happen far more often. I would cast these guys in anything.
Loved this show! I was so disappointed when I bought Seasons 1 and 2 on DVD and there was no part 2 and so overjoyed when they did release part two a couple years after I first discovered the DVDs! Excellent all the way around.
Gargoyles had The best Saturday morning cartoon villain in Xanatos. Unlike most cartoon bad guys, he didn't shake his fist and curse the Gargoyles for thwarting his diabolical scheme each week, to the point of looking like an idiot (like Cobra Commander or Skeletor). He would smile and steeple his fingers in silent triumph, as Machiavelian plans within plans fell into place, and would even find opportunity when he _was_ defeated. That's the kind of bad guy you can root for.
Great research. My favorite cartoon ever, tied with Saturday AM Sonic the Hedgehog. This was a great Sega Genesis game too. They really don't make 'em like they used to.
I mean the writers aside (a connection in and of itself hard to ignore..) but that epic theme shares more than a bit with the Batman animated series.. they were both great and distinct series accounting for or discounting any similarity. Just good toons. Thanks for the video, and awesome details!
I don't think there was anybody out there that wouldn't at least admit that this show was good. Personally, I think it's one of the best things that ever came out of Disney.
Even though I didn't grow up with it, I can honestly say having watched it recently that Gargoyles might be one of the greatest animated shows of all time, next to Avatar. Some may say it rips off Batman TAS but I think it remains distinct due to it having a full serialized story. Much like Batman, Gargoyles got away with so much to the point where I sometimes questioned if it was actually a kids show. While not perfect, season 3 was a let down and some characters, particularly Talon in season 2, I think should have had far more screen time and development, I can honestly that Gargoyles, due to its dark atmosphere, serialized storytelling and great characters, is by far the best thing the Disney Channel ever produced.
I used to love Gargoyles. Back in the 90s in Spain, it was one of the best cartoons out. I like to joke that my love for the Finnish band Lordi comes from the leader Mr. Lord reminding me of this show. Good memories of lazy evening at my Grandma's or my aunt's
Gosh, I remember this show so fondly as a kid. Man, it was years ahead of it's time. It was one of the most well written, deep and thought provoking shows I ever watched as a kid. My Dad even loved it, and this was a man who deeply despised cartoons. This show needs to be greenlit for a comeback.

9:14 - "Frakes was the NUMBER ONE choice" - was an excellent turn of phrase
@@RichO1701e Agreed. Nichelle Nichols voicing Diane Maza, Eliza's mom so good. Rocky Carroll from NCIS voicing Derek Maza, Kate Mulgrew voicing Lady Titania wife of Oberon, Brent Spiner voicing Puck with Jeff Bennett voicing his human counterpart Owen Bennett while Peter Scolari's character was the reference model that Puck used as the human disguise for Owen Bennett. Peter Scolari's character was the assistant to Halcyon Renard voiced by Robert Culp.
This brought back fond memories. I might give it a rewatch.
Its one of those shows that were around when I was was a kid for a year or two, and then just disappeared.
The gummy bears was the one song that got stuck in my head for years. I last heard it in 1993, and it's always been with me
Hands down the best thing on television growing up.
I love -- LOVE -- Gargoyles, but Batman: The Animated Series will always have a very special place in my heart. 🤩
I loved the show. Super sad it ended and towards the end one could tell the quality took a dive. Just rewatched the whole series last year. Worth it.
I miss shows like this. I love the 90s.
Modern TV sucks!
From characters to stories to art, actors and opening theme music. This show fired on all cylinders!
I just busted out laughing with the Gummi Bears reveal!
The one episode I really remember, is that witch or whatever, being vulnerable to sugar?!
My favorite animated show of the 90s.
Gargoyles was more of a mystery suspense cartoon in the vain of Batman: The Animated Series, rather than an action cartoon
"What Happened to Gargoyles" hahaha this was great. Usually i use to see you asking what Happened with real peoples but this time with characters from animacion with wast kind of touching i lovling and i was very happy to see it.
I'm surprised they never made a live action remake of the show.
One of my favorite shows growing up.
"Pay a man enough, and he'll walk barefoot into hell." How a kid's cartoon wrote a line that magnificent is a testament to how great this show is.
Xanatos says it on S1E2. 😄 Love it.
@@VALonUA-cam The multi episode opening to this show was probably my favourite start to a series when this aired.
Plus Clancy Brown and Keith David together is a pairing that should happen far more often. I would cast these guys in anything.
@@CaptWesStarwind Absolutely. 🤩 It was the 5-part premiere that got me hooked on the show in the first place. Gorgeous to watch from start to finish.
Loved this show! I was so disappointed when I bought Seasons 1 and 2 on DVD and there was no part 2 and so overjoyed when they did release part two a couple years after I first discovered the DVDs! Excellent all the way around.
Still waiting on the last DVD volume for the original DuckTales.
I always felt this along with Swat Kats should have been way bigger. At least Gargoyles got a lot more seasons though than Swat Kats.
Swat Kats should have went to Ruby Spears Productions instead
The Intro alone is awesome!
If there’s any time in history you don’t want the current corporate owners of this series to revive it, it’s right now.
I mean the writers aside (a connection in and of itself hard to ignore..) but that epic theme shares more than a bit with the Batman animated series.. they were both great and distinct series accounting for or discounting any similarity. Just good toons.
Thanks for the video, and awesome details!
Gargoyles was the best show Disney has ever made.
9:14 - "Frakes was the NUMBER ONE choice"
😂😂😂
I see what you did there, nice one 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Yes!!
Gargoyles!! 😁😁😁😁
Oh my god! With highway to heaven music in your video? Awesome!
I don't think there was anybody out there that wouldn't at least admit that this show was good. Personally, I think it's one of the best things that ever came out of Disney.
Such an amazing show. I grew up with this as well, and loved everything about it. Great video!
Just for fun, imagine a live action Gargoyles movie made by Guillermo del Toro.
Would I sound too horny if I put up Henry Cavill as Goliath?
I can see him casting Ron Perlman again
@@Nikki-tx6khmight as well just use Keith David
One of my favorite shows and still is
This was great! I loved the Gargoyles!
This is still one of my favorite animated series. And it 100% started my love for Shakespeare's work.
Too bad it came out at a time where you still only saw, The, Disney Channel, for, those precious few, fortunate, four-day periods, annually.
Thank you for this video.
I loved this show.... underrated masterpiece
I just learned that Elisa Maza is actually biracial. She's half African American, half Native American.
HalfAfrican half American
I used to love Gargoyles. Back in the 90s in Spain, it was one of the best cartoons out. I like to joke that my love for the Finnish band Lordi comes from the leader Mr. Lord reminding me of this show.
Good memories of lazy evening at my Grandma's or my aunt's
Tail spin and gargoyles ❤
This plus Exo squad and Galaxy Rangers are my jam. They were my childhood, and all 3 still are great. Best episode, deadly force was a great one
MacBeth wasn't evil, he just wanted to kill Demona so that he coud die.
This was one of my favorites growing up along with Darkwing Duck.
This was a good one ✌️😊💚
Gosh, I remember this show so fondly as a kid. Man, it was years ahead of it's time. It was one of the most well written, deep and thought provoking shows I ever watched as a kid. My Dad even loved it, and this was a man who deeply despised cartoons. This show needs to be greenlit for a comeback.
I would love a live action adaptaion.
Jordan Peele went to Disney with a script. But they rejected it.
Thank goodness they rejected it
I watched this as a kid and had completely forgotten about it. I will download it and rewatch is just for old times sake.
