      I live full time in my 36ft travel trailer (it has a hitch), and my trailer comes with a flush valve, so I can hook up a hose directly to flush my tanks. I flush it once a week and spend about 30 minutes each week, closing and opening my black water tank to fully clean and flush it out.
      My question is that since my trailer is fully stationary, can I still use the ice cubes and dishwasher detergent to clean my sensors by using my blackwater flush to slosh it around? I do have a non flexible wand that I can use. My bathroom has a door, so I can easily get a hose into the bathroom. I'm just trying to figure out the best way to clean my sensors since I'm sure they need it since I've been living in my trailer for almost 4 years

    Do you need the Rhino Blaster if you have a black water fill connection at my connection center where my fresh water connection is located? Does this spray hard enough? I have the Rhino Blaster w/o the gate valve and actually use both.

      Hey chsbandad,
      If your RV comes equipped with the RV Holding Tank Cleanout System then you shouldn't need the Rhino Blaster.

    We watched a video where you dumped at the dump station and you used the rhino blaster. Is it still OK to use the rhino blaster and backfilled the black tank at your site?

    • @RVBlogger
      @RVBlogger  4 дні тому

      Great Question! It is ok as long as you use a second back flow preventer on your hose and you DO NOT USE your freshwater hose to fill your tank through the RhinoBlaster. I keep a second hose on board that is green so it's a different color that my freshwater hoses.

      If your RV has been in storage a long time some of your gaskets may have dry rotted. Be sure to fill your tanks and look for wet spots under your camper to find any leaks.

    You are correct about insuring the bleach is thoroughly rinsed from the tank. What's worse than the effects it has on seals is that it is corrosive to the sensors themselves, rendering them inop.
    The ice trick has been debunked over and over however. It chills the water down to the point that it renders whatever detergent you choose to use less effective at dissolving the trace amounts of grease and oils that will cling to the sides of the tank. Another reason is that ice is not abrasive and adding it to a half full tank, its probably melted before you could get on the road to slosh it around anyway. However as you point out, throughly rinsing you tanks after each use is the best defense for keeping tank sensors working accurately.

    Curious why the black tank flush connection is not as good as or better than the Rhino blaster? On my RV the dump valve main connection point is used to connect the main "sewer" hose but both the black water and gray water used the same exit point. Therefore the Rhino blaster is not directly shooting water directly into the back tank but into a quite long section of pvc pipe that both the grsy and black tanks empty (depending on which of their separate gate valves are opened. Not sure the Rhino blaster would work in my situation. Thanks for the video

    I have the rhinoblaster also and I'm really glad I got it. Do you recommend using it on the gray water tank as well? Or, would that cross contaminate even though you'd have the black tank closed at the time. My gray tank shows only 2/3 full and its backing up either in the sink or shower. I'm now emptying it when it reaches 2/3 so I ensure it doesn't back up.

      We use ours on the black and gray tanks. We don't use it on the gray tank every time we dump but every now and then I like to give it a rinse.

    Great video Thanks only problem for some is our 5w the blank tank doesn’t plumb straight out like most so the jet of water doesn’t work in this situation but I know it does work in a dump like you have

    • @RVBlogger
      @RVBlogger  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Brian,
      That's a good point but I would imagine for routine maintenance and rinsing your tank after each dump you would get at least some water movement in the tank and it is still a very easy way to fill the tank to give it a quick flush.

    I appreciate your videos. I think they're well made and informative.
    About the Rhino Blaster with gate valve. I bought it and I'm not certain it's worth anything more than the window it provides to see what comes out. Please correct me if I'm wrong! First of all, the hose will not pressure wash any significant area of the tank at all. Also, it seems that the only way to know that my black tank was filled was by looking. So, rather than backfill, I got a flashlight and used the toilet's flush function till I could actually see the water at the bottom of the toilet drain.
    So, is there a way to know you've filled the tank from outside the vehicle? Same question for the gray tank. Thanks.

    • @RVBlogger
      @RVBlogger  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Daniel,
      You can't pressure wash the inside of your tanks but you can easily fill and rinse them...
      We just use our control panel and when the indicator light shows full we turn off the water and dump the tank...
      Susan is usually inside cleaning up and I am outside putting stuff away so she keeps and eye on it and let's me know when it's full.

    After watching your video I have some honest comments. Nice holding tank rinse out video.
    Your first section with ice cubes and dishwasher detergent, you need to explain that the black tank needs to be at least 1/3 of water for this to work. If the tank is empty, the dishwasher detergent will sit on the bottom like regular poop. There are plenty of UA-cam videos showing that using expensive RV/Marine TP isn’t worth the extra price, just use any “septic friendly” TP and DON’T WAD up the TP.
    All of your options that you show in this video are basically backfill rinse out options. To actually clean the tank, I’ve found only 1 thing that will get rid of the hard grime on the sides and sensors to like new. Using a sewer pressure jetting kit will clean to like new. Easy to do and less than $100 for a kit. Full timers should use annually and weekenders should use biannually. Plenty of video’s out that show how to and some actually show results of before and after.
    Thanks for helping the newbies to our community.

      Not all black tanks are the same size. You would have to check manufacturer specs for that information. Hi Baby Goats,
      Yes - you should put antifreeze in the grey and black tanks when you winterize. It will end up there anyway because you should run all the faucets to be sure the antifreeze gets through every pipe in your RV.

    Hello Mike. Really enjoy your educational videos! I will be RVing on my own. When flushing your black tank, how long do you think it takes for you to fill the black tank with water when flushing/draining. And, are you filling the black tank all the way full or to about 1/3 full to allow the water to swish around when you take a drive? I just don't want to keep running back and forth to check my readings. My RV is about the same size as yours, Thor Freedom Elite 23H. Thanks so much, Stephanie

    Hi there first time I think watching your channel and I noticed that this was made in 2019 so you’re probably aware already however if your sensors are not working right you’ve got struvite buildup it’s a crystal forming thing that builds up on your walls and can cause a lot of have a gift there let go too much now there may be another way to clean it out but in my research using a pressure washer go on the outside of your tank go inside with the little little hose thingy and it’ll knock all that off I have tried other products that remove struvite or cleans your sensors with no luck recommendation for companies that actually do come out and Hydro flush your black tank from the outside with a pressure washer have recommended once or twice a year to do that to help keep your maintenance up on that however I do not recommend hiring one when you can actually do it yourself because they cost over 200 bucks to come out and Hydro flush your black tank hope that’s helpful have a good day thank you for the video

      The thumbs down isn't necessarily meant to be mean. I gave a thumbs down for the bleach.
      Don't put bleach in your black tank please. This will cause damage.
      Also, where do you think all the viewers are going to be dumping these chemicals?
      If you have a styptic system at home, you know this won't end well some point in the future.
      So for some people, thumbs down simply means "I don't agree"
      All the best to all and happy camping.

    I was wondering if anyone used dishwasher detergent to clean the grey and black tanks. Totally unrelated, but back in my weight training days, I use to consume a good bit of protein powders and such in a shaker bottle. I took note that the dishwasher detergent was by far more efficacious in ridding the residual on the sides of the shaker bottles, as opposed to any dish detergent that we had (Palmolive, Dawn, etc). I also found dishwasher detergent to be the best at cleaning blenders.

    As a long time Rv'er my experience has been that the ice pretty much does nothing. I have a Rhino blaster and it does only a somewhat decent job. You should never put bleach in your black tank for the same reason you wouldn't put it in a septic tank. The method that I use is the easiest. Keep your black tank always a 1/3 full and add something like Unique RV Digest-It+ . Then, when you empty the tank, follow up with at least two 5 gallon forceful flushes directly through down the toilet. When the water comes out clear on the Rhino blaster, It's clean. As far as detergent, I also add about a capful of Fabuloso and we are ready.

      We have changed our minds on the ice thing too. It will work if done properly but no one has the time to do it properly. We use lots of water in our Tanks and we switched over to Matt's Liquified and love it.

    I wonder how well a sewer jetter hose connected to a pressure washer would work? I have one called the "Clog Hog".

    Thanks for your video but here's the thing, no one in these videos ive been watching about this subject has mentioned the use of HOT water!!! That alone is not only going to loosen all the crud but help disinfect. I believe that the ice is doing very little other than actually making what you're trying to get rid of literally harder and negating any benefits of proper chemical reactions from the hot water. Anyone else thinking this?

    • @RVBlogger
      @RVBlogger  4 роки тому +2

      Hi Magic Nomadic,
      Here's the problem with using hot water...most RVs only have a 6 gallon water heater and the black tank is usually 4 times that size. So - there is not really a practical way to fill your black tank completely with hot water. Plus - there isn't always an easy way to get the hot water into the black tank. So - that's why these other methods are used. I do think hot water would do a good job cleaning the black tank though. I like your perspective on this.

    When I first saw that it was a couple doing the video I just about turned it off. But what i really enjoyed about this video, other than the content, was that the person behind the camera said absolutely NOTHING. Usually with couples, there is a lot of useless banter with one trying to talk over the other, or one employing "cute" insults to the other and other wasteful distractions. You had none of these. Also the camera movements were very well done, and not jerky, full of jump cuts, or other camera distractions. The only disappointment I had was after you completed your trip around the park after dumping the ice and soap into the black tank, you didn't show if it cured the sensor problem. I was hoping to see clear sensors with no 1/3 light still illuminated. Also, try not to say "Go ahead" so much. And it's not necessary to say, "we're inside the RV now." That's pretty obvious. Overall, good smooth delivery, stayed on topic, you didn't say "basically" every other word, and your tips were well presented.

    I have to disagree on the toilet paper. I've tested mine and the rv approved brands and mine breaks down faster and is a lot nicer on the bottom. Also it doesn't cost as much as the ones that say rv approved, anything that says rv on it raises the price. I recommend testing your toilet paper before spending way to much money.
