Yeah Rob (RIP) and Fab were dancers who Frank Farian, German producer discovered in a club in Munich during the 80s. He took them as lip-synced "singers" for Milli Vanilli. The "Real Milli Vanilli" came out later presenting the real voices of the songs. BTW the songs were great anyway. Today nobody would care.
Yes, there was that scandal and all. It was ridiculous how mad people especially in the US got back then. The rest of the world (for instance here in Germany) took it more with a chuckle since basically everybody had a hunch right from the beginning. But let's get real here, they put out some really amazing songs. Check out "Blame It on the Rain" and "Baby Don't Forget My Number".
The song was written and produced by Frank Farian, a German Singer in the late 60s and early 70s. He invented Bonney M, wrote and arranged their songs with enormous succes world wide, he sang the male part and hired a dancer for the stage. When he invented Milli Vanilli, he hired a guy from New York who sang the most part but he was no front-man. So he hired a German and French model for the stage performance. They couldn't really sing, they hardly spoke English. But from month to month the German Guy couldn't handle the success and ruined more and more the illusion. Before it went all to shit, Frank Farian outed the both of them.
When the news broke about their lipsynching, Arsenio Hall opened his show with just smiling on the stage (he had been on thier case for a long time). My first thought was "makes sense, they can't dance, so maybe they can't sing." There was a news report, showed the studio singers who actually voiced the music, it was two men and a woman, all three were kinda chunky and elderly. They did record an actual song, with them singing for real, it was actually pretty good.
This is the song that busted them ☹️ But the sad thing is...they both could sing...they were both singers & performera separately b4 they even met (no not brothers), but because they both had thick accents, their manager decided 2 make them lip sync because he didn't wanna wait 4 them 2 take vocal lessons. & since they were so young & naive...they agreed & signed the contract that essentially sealed their fate ☹️💔🎵
India "Girl you soo fine looking as usual !"... You come across as soo much more upbeat , almost like you are glowing lol ."Cheers from Nova Scotia Canada Eh !"
This was amazing and Blame it on the rain the best! The light skinned one battled addiction and mental health and took his own life, the dark skinned one had his own struggles but still performs as himself today.
Always thought the record company did them wrong. They came up with the lip sync plot and them let the guys take a humiliating fall for it. I don’t blame the guys. If someone offered me money and a fabulous lifestyle for lip syncing and acting like the singers I sure as hell would do it. It was the record company who should have fallen
Agree with everyone. They had no idea what they were getting into, I saw their interview on VH1. They were told this is how it gets done in the America. The songs we still jam to them, IDC what anyone says!
I love Milli Vanilli...I dont care about the lip syncing and that they werent the ones who sang. They were the FACE. You should listen to "Girl Im gonna miss you", " When I die" and "Keep on running". RIP Rob Pilatus🙏
They were treated so badly!!! I loved them and always will - I still listen to them and I defy anyone to tell me they didn't love Blame it on the Rain, Girl I'm Gonna Miss You, Baby Don't Forget My Number, Dream Is Over and I will call you a liar I LOVE MILLI VANILLI and they could sing too!! it was so wrong!
These guys are from Munich Germany and were produced from Frank Farian, he managed a lot of musicians at this time like Boney M, Terence Trent D'Arby or Meat Loaf
India, they did not actually sing their songs, even though they could sing. The were young, naive, thus duped by their record producer. Like others stated, they were found out and crucified by their fans and the media. Great looking guys though. Unfortunately, the one with the gorgeous eyes, died of drug abuse a few years later. I think being scapegoated and ostracized by almost everyone, took its toll on him. He also had personal problems with regards to abandonment issues, being bi-racial, adopted and raised in a all white family. I still like them though. So sad.
Yes! I’ve been playing my cd for the past month in my car, waiting for one ya reactors to view! My money was on you first Indie😂 You seem to appreciate the 80’s- 90’s ❤️ BTW, I referred them as Phony Bolony aka MV😂
The fact is that the two beauties do not say a single note of their song itself. They were certainly excellent in the performace and their lipsinc very good. The real singers were singers from a studio in Germany, the studio of the famous producer Frank Farian, who also launched Boney M among others. Of course, one day at a gig the whole thing blew up because the tape/CD faltered (you can watch the recordings in UA-cam). They had to give back their prizes, couldn't perform anywhere and couldn't get another foot in the door with more songs. One of them, Rob Pilate, is said to have been ashamed of himself and died as a result. If we think away the deception of the audience, there remain some beautiful, refreshing songs with Milli Vanilli, which are already evergreens.
“Their” best song....BLAME IT ON THE RAIN....I don’t care who sang it.....it was a FANTASTIC SONG!!!!!!!

They were the best
Loved watching your reaction - We all love them
R.I.P ROB PILATUS 💔💔💔💔
RESPEKT FAB MORVAN ❤❤❤❤
❤❤I LOVE MILLI VANILLI FOREVER ❤❤
a very good looking pair
I love it
The song was written and produced by Frank Farian, a German Singer in the late 60s and early 70s.
“Girl, I’m Gonna Miss You” is my favorite from “them”. What happened to them was horrible.
I miss you girl
When the news broke about their lipsynching, Arsenio Hall opened his show with just smiling on the stage (he had been on thier case for a long time). My first thought was "makes sense, they can't dance, so maybe they can't sing."
There was a news report, showed the studio singers who actually voiced the music, it was two men and a woman, all three were kinda chunky and elderly.
I swear I was waiting for the first "GIRL YOU KNOW ITS TRUE" and you had just the reaction I was looking for!
This is THE best album to clean house to.
Sing with it, dance with it, & clean. Makes it too fun . . .
That my old school song,so much beautiful.back 90s
India "Girl you soo fine looking as usual !"... You come across as soo much more upbeat , almost like you are glowing lol ."Cheers from Nova Scotia Canada Eh !"
Used to dance around the house doing chores to this one. I had such a huuuuge crush on the drummer, Mikki Byron. R.I.P Mikki.
Great performers they delivered a show
Think they invented the flying chest bump.
This was amazing and Blame it on the rain the best! The light skinned one battled addiction and mental health and took his own life, the dark skinned one had his own struggles but still performs as himself today.
Still love them
Always thought the record company did them wrong.
They had a whole host of bangers. I don't care who, what, or where they came from, great music is great music.
I am gone 😂you trying not to crack up 😂😂😂
KARYN WHITE- "Secret Rendez-vous"...I think you would really like her, India... same late 80's R&B vibe!!!
These guys are from Munich Germany and were produced from Frank Farian, he managed a lot of musicians at this time like Boney M,
Terence Trent D'Arby or Meat Loaf
India, they did not actually sing their songs, even though they could sing. The were young, naive, thus duped by their record producer. Like others stated, they were found out and crucified by their fans and the media. Great looking guys though. Unfortunately, the one with the gorgeous eyes, died of drug abuse a few years later. I think being scapegoated and ostracized by almost everyone, took its toll on him. He also had personal problems with regards to abandonment issues, being bi-racial, adopted and raised in a all white family. I still like them though. So sad.
They could sing badly yes..
