It's SO cliched, but Deicide was the most influential music of high school for me, along with Metallica and Pantera. I still loves those feelings I have when I listen to "I Am No One" and remember then.

Glen Benton even admits now in interview that worshipping the devil was all gimmick, even though he took it seriously back then. I saw an article where he and the lead singer from Mortification were getting along fine backstage and as soon as Glen found out his band was Christian, he freaked out and started pulling punches. haha.. It isn't a gimmick. How can you think writing lyrics that glorify Satan isn't worshipping him? Just because he isn't a member of the golden dawn or a church of Satan member (which he probably is but denies it) or an outright luciferian (which are all synonyms by the way) doesn't mean he isn't worshipping the devil. You're either with Jesus or against him. If you're against him who's side are you on?

Got to give the tv show some credit for actually letting this happen. If an awesome death metal band like Amon/Deicide played on a local morning talk show here in Central Illinois...people would still be be talking about it 30 years later in disbelief (things like that never happen around here!!). To see two suburban white-bread moms on a morning talk show talking about the local death metal scene is just bizarre (but strangely entertaining at the same time). Still...I prefer to keep death metal 'underground'.
