    Alas, this hasn’t aged well. Coventry city won the FA Cup in 1987.

      I remember it well - Spurs had never lost an FA Cup Final, Coventry had never even been in an FA Cup Final!

    Hi Connor, another one from the Hollywood Bowl is "Why Michelangelo Didn't Paint the Last Supper". Or an example of what happens when comedians have a classical education "Philosophers Football Match".

    Yeah like the other guy said, Argument Clinic is a good one.

    This is not the original sketch. This was a live redo they made 14 years later. Several of their sketches were redone for their other shows or live performances, for example: The Lumberjack Song. You did the redo and not the original version which is much better as it has a previous sketch that leads into it with extra context

  • @LilMonkeyFella87
    @LilMonkeyFella87 22 дні тому +4

    The original sketch also has a unrelated sketch that follows on from this which briefly cuts back to this sketch to show more of Marx and Guevara. It then cuts back to them again at the end of the show

    Anachronisms aside, I can't really picture a modern British comedy troupe (assuming there was one) doing a show at the Hollywood Bowl. It is true to say that they were the first instance of 'Rock n Roll Comedy'. And that's quite apart from the fact that Elvis loved 'Monty Python & The Holy Grail'.

    Just as I saw it pop up in your recommended videos at the end of this one, I recommend "Argument Clinic" too. But the recommended video is a bad edit with no connecting sketches. I have the full video

      If that's the 5 min argument sketch, I would put that forward as one of the finest bits of comedy ever written. It should be used in comedy schools, if such things exist !

      Alas, a lot of Monty Python material is out of context.
      But I thought about this a little, and realised...
      How can any small clip ever _be_ in context?
      Unless you've seen the whole lot when it was broadcast, loved it, rewatched it, quoted it, rewatched it, seen the clips, watched bits, seen reactions, been a fan, watched it a bit more, reminisced about it, quoted it again, and so on and so forth, you couldn't _ever_ understand the context of it.
      Because, (and listen to this bit really carefully), often there _simply_ _was_ _no_ context!! That's part of the point!!

      @@Varksterable they have lots of stand alone sketches, but many follow on into the next sketch. The most popular videos on here often miss out the next sketch. I've seen loads react to Argument Clinic but its missing the rest of the sketches that follow on. Likewise Ministry of Funny Walks, the top video cuts off half way through the sketch

  • @imaginaryopposition
    @imaginaryopposition 22 дні тому

    i think some of the comments are requesting "monty pythons' flying circus" episodes, but somehow without saying such... if you see " this scetch leads into another" usually (in my opinion) they are related 'mentally' because of the sequence in the show, they work just fine by themselves also, so don't worry too much.
    but if you can find full episodes of the show it would be fun for us too to see how you enjoy it!

    Some of Monty Python's sketches requires you to know a bit about 50's, 60's and 70s. I think this is from The Hollywood Bowl so it's been tweaked for Americans.

    Monty Python spared no one in its comedic criticisms. They broke rules, made fun of everything and everyone, including themselves. Any discomfort that an audience may feel today about certain aspects, were felt equally about other aspects at that time. What might be considered “taboo” or outrageous or inappropriate, changes constantly and they knew that and deliberately included anything edgy.

    There was nothing suspect about this sketch either then or now, they are a team of people playing parts, the aim was not to ridicule anyone Chinese but instead ridicule Communism.
