Honestly, I didn’t think Izzy Vs Strickland was recency bias at all. When they showed the striking stats mid fight and showed Izzy had only landed something like 14% of strikes thrown, I was absolutely baffled.
Also Izzy said (in the 2nd round?) to his coaches in between rounds that he couldn't get his jab working, which is another feather in Sean's cap when it comes to not letting your opponent hit you.
Should Izzy get the rematch immediately?

Literally any fighter can have a night like that. Really cool that Strickland won, and glad it has shaken up the division, but Izzy is one of the best strikers of all time, and anyone who thinks otherwise is probably riddled with bias. People don't want Izzy to rematch him because they understand what will most likely happen, and don't want the division to stagnate, which is perfectly understandable. But let's not pretend about it.
I think Dominick Cruz vs Cody Garbrandt wouldve been a better edition to this list than Chito vs Cory, not that what you said was false but those are two of the biggest names in that divisions history, it had title implications and the entire story after the fight was how good Cody’s defense was
Cruz's accuracy was impressive considering his volume, and Garbrandt neutralized it from bell to bell.

It was not Sean Stricklands best day and also Izzy's worst, it was a masterful performance from a focused fighter who had excellent fundamentals fighting someone who had no answer for any of it
Such clear bias show by them to probably get on the casuals good side
Not true at all, Sean is just the first guy to constantly put pressure and keep he’s defence tight.

Arguably Fedor's best performance relative to competition if you ask me. In his prime, Fedor was equally a world-class striker and a world-class grappler.
Fedor was the most complete fighter of his time, no elite striker but still on level with actual elite strikers, no pure wrestler but could outwrestle dedicated and bigger wrestlers. He was the first real mma fighter in an age where kickboxing, Wrestling and bjj would compete against each other instead of being combined like today

This list is missing Bas vs Shamrock 1 or 2 where Bass got dominated by Ken. Two Legends but those losses made Bas elevate his game and finish his career at a high level where he become one of the greatest to ever do it.
Thats the stone age of mma hahaha but yeah people forget what a menace shamrock was back then he was probably the best fighter in the world at some point in pancrase but he wasted his body for wwe or other show fights had a lot of surgeries and returned to mma to be an average fighter, really a shame how he wasted his potential

Dom vs Cody deserved to be on this list...
Dom landed 95 total strikes with just 4% less accuracy than Cody. All y’all remember about that fight is Cody breakdancing and Round 4, Dom won 2 rounds on every scorecard.
@@bradleysd that's what you get when you watch that fight via tiktok clips. Cody's performance against Dom was the most overrated performance of all time. Dom was winning that fight until the accidental headbutt.

I think you actually underrated Sean’s performance. That was the single greatest defensive performance I’ve ever seen in mma. Especially considering who it was against and how big of an underdog he was. It was virtuoso level.
And that 34% is misleading, because it includes checked leg kicks. He was swinging at air anytime he went upstairs and the majority of those leg kicks they counted were checked. It was an incredible performance by Sean.

9:55 Describing izzy as one of the best offensive strikers in history is inaccurate, he's the definition of a defensive striker. He fights on the outside almost always, I can count on one hand the rounds izzy has been the aggressor in a fight.

That's not what offensive means... it's still offense if you are throwing while backing up, just like it's still defense when Strickland is moving forward. You can't say Izzy isn't one of the best offensive strikers when 67% of his wins are by KO/TKO

Cody Garbrant vs Dom Cruz was one for me!!
When you look deeper into the stats and see Izzy's percentage on head strike attempts that is truly baffling. His percentage was in the 30's because of leg kicks which was the only thing he could somewhat consistently land. Sean basically nullified Izzy's game and walked him down the whole time
Most of these were either against elite wrestlers or against some of the greatest of all time. I feel like that makes a big difference in the narrative.

Some of these don’t do the scenario justice at all and blindly go off stats. As a stats guy I’ll say 1000x yes numbers DO tell the full story but a lack of robust data is the reason I’d doesn’t always. Machida vs jones is a good example. Go watch the fight back. Many of the shots missed were him attempting to get the timing of Jon’s leg kicks as machida was finding a way to break the impenetrable kicking range aka circle of death that peak Jon was able to maintain. This required flurry after flurry of him eating a huge leg kick but eventually he cracked Jon incredibly hard after timing the leg kick perfectly a few times in a row and was now in boxing range . Which was a problem for Jon . And against the champion machida’s rate and efficiency are both far above average. Those are the numbers that matter here. Not machida compared to him fighting other ppl not named Jon jones. He got a lot more than air vs Jon closed to the other fighters of the division. Had Jon not faked a kick as his corner suggest and Superman punched machida flying in timing this kick, the machida era might still be a thing and not a meme lol

Calling Izzy an offensive striker is a little wild. Izzy lost strictly based on the fact that he couldn't step forward while throwing punches. Greatest defensive striker? Yes. His offense has been historically lackluster.

Lyoto vs JBJ kinda strange. Machida outstruck Jones the whole fight till he caught him with a punch and choked him. I guess with his blitz he missed first few strikes but landed the last couple and the kick. Would like to see Jones striking average for that fight cause he was out struck...
Jones landed 24 significant strikes at 45% accuracy and machida only landed 13 strikes with 34% accuracy

@@noahcutteri personally remember machida missing most shots and the lengthy distance-based striking of jones being stylistically tough for the blitzing fighter with a smaller reach outside of a few successful punches at the end of big blitzing movements. Also rewatching the fight now there were a few strikes that jones blocked or avoided but the commentators started freaking out like he got hit
PED's really do a good job at making the lesser fighter win fights they shouldn't. That's why it's considered cheating....

There's no rhyme or reason to the order of these. Except for the top 2, but the concept is cool.
Most of Izzy's landed sig. strikes are leg kicks that were checked and barely did any damage to Strickland too. Recency bias or not, that's insane.

Strickland winning was not a big upset, youu're just another victim of recency bias. Half the comment section thought Sean could win when he was roasting Izzy at the press conference for Sean vs Pereira and Izzy vs. Whoever getting all up inside his head back then owning him at the presser. Sean had all the tools to win and great striking, was more like 50/50.

stipe landed at 92% in his last fight. mostly leg kicks and low volume but still absurdly high
I love how Stipe haters just gloss over the first fight where he completely dominated Francis. Stefan Struve is the only fighter that has a win over Stipe and no loss.
