I do these all the time, the best stuff is premixed drywall compound less than 9 bucks a gallon and is like icing , if you prime it wall primer then it takes paint really well, the great thing is you can keep adding more if you don't like result, also going over it with watered down paint then dry brushing some of the base coat gives dimention and brings out the texture.
Thank you for the video. You are my INSPIRATION for my Virtual SeeScape art piece for my exam 😊. When I'm done... I'll be sure to come back so you can see my work. Again thank you 🙂
Art has no rules. Create and keep creating. It looks fantastic. Keep making more! Art school mostly taught me to have tough skin (thank you critiques).
I love it! have you thought about having Joshua build a a floating frame for it? I did a diy painting in the same size and once my husband built a frame it looked so much more professional!
This turned out super cute! As someone who is an artist, i think you did a great job! The only big difference between your work and something you would buy from a "real" artist is its longevity. We use high quality archival materials that will last multiple lifetimes! But as just something fun to do yourself for your home I think its wonderful and I love that you enjoyed making them because thats really all that matters!
@@shainahector1802 Super Heavy Gesso, molding paste, and specialty texture pastes and gels. The best archival brands are Golden and Liquitex which means they are very pricey because of their quality. Look up Liquitex texture mediums. There are so many to play with!
Hello....😀😀😀 All you will ever need for texture ! In the artist dept at Hobby Lobby there is a product called Modeling Paste! By Golden, or Hobby Lobby brand . This will go on like you are doing with spatula . It is less likely to fall off. But still be aware of how thick you do. This product makes awesome texture. Dries white and very hard. Also can paint! Good luck😃💕💕💪🏻 you are definitely doing a wonderful job!
Since the wood filler is stainable I think this would be awesome if you added a little stain to this to give it a bit more depth, also because you said it’s delicate once it’s dried I would recommend using ceramic stucco from liquitex or even super heavy gel medium that are made for art like this 😉it will be a bit more expensive but will last forever.
Very cool! I think if I did this - I would do it the same. I would just hang it on a wall that was painted a color other than white so it pops more. But you did awesome at explaining your process. And I love the result.
Ohhhhhh......so pretty!!! I wonder if you added some white on top of the other art you did in your family room that it'd bring out some more of the dimension on it. Just basically dry brush white over it. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the one you did in your living room!! So pretty and looks high end! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I like the texture but you should have added some gray splatters or black and gray splatters, it looks so plain and a little boring, it didn't add to the room. Sorry!
This is exactly how I started doing abstract art, I saw the prices in the store and said I can do this myself. Lol my mom.actually owns an art gallery and I saw some of her artists work and the prices were crazy but the art is so beautiful. You did an excellent job. I've used tools like credit cards long pieces of cardboard, newspaper alcohol and I throw paint or fluid pour wish is really fun.
Great job! You can make your own too for next time. Get you some glue, baby powder and paint. I use it to create texture in the paintings. Awesome job, Dear!
I think taking some gold paint and dry brushing just a little on a few of the raised textured part would blend it in with the rest of the house. But it’s pretty just as it is. Job well done 😊
Love your idea, if you’re having trouble with the plaster coming off the canvas while you paint it you could use spray paint instead and then seal it with a varnish spray - that way your paint will be protected and won’t fade!
When you added the white paint it really brought out the strokes. I like it. Maybe you can paint the wall a darker color, like a gray or something like that. It would really pop then. Nice work
The brown filler was stainable that’s why it was brown i’m so glad you bought that by mistake because I was wondering how I could do one of those artwork and I wanted it stained on top and painted on the bottom and now you showed me exactly what I can use I forgot about the stainable filler good job I just done a 8 ft x8ft but I use joint compound and thin it down with a little water but the box last forever if u put just a little water on top to keep it moist and seal it up good for around $8 a box good job
I'm kind of new to contemporary freestyle art but I absolutely love it because of the freedom! That's why I won't tell you what I think you should have done with it it's your art and I think it's wonderful
To all the people that keep telling her how she should have added a color to it… YALL are clearly not professional artist. I don’t see y’all complaining to Kim kardashian about why her whole living room is completely white with white on white decor huh. Smh
Very nice! I'm definitely going to make one while on winter break. If you'd like, you can get wood trim from Home Depot. Just take the piece with you and they'll cut it for free! I was watching a home decorating video and they mentioned how you inspired them to create their piece. Thanks so much!
I absolutely love it!! I THINK maybe you should frame it with a tiny wood around it just a simple frame so it shows up!! That's the same thing they sell on Restoration hardware for 2,500
Very nice job!! Cool idea, never would have thought of using spackling that way. I think if you used a few colors in it it’d really pop. You can tie your room colors in to make it truly a “commissioned” piece. Keep up the good work!
I did this once and messed up my second canvas but I painted over it w hot pink paint and made a wonky Peace Sign .Threw glitter on it and it turned out cute 4 kids room!!🍋🍋Lemons/Lemonaide!
Suggestion after trying this out: before you take to a big canvas, test on some small ones. Michael’s sells a 5 pack of 16x20 for $13. Experiment with textures, colors, etc. I’d also recommend spending more time on the texturing rather than just slapping on the spackle. Use various sizes of putty knives and paint knives to play around with. Use the kind of spackle that goes on pink. It is way easier to see what you’re doing and dries white of course. There’s also so many different shades of colors so spend some time mixing and experimenting before going big on your canvas. Personally I went black for a more masculine look and it looks sick. Definitely get a frame for it as it just makes it look so much better. Overall take your time. Yes this is a relatively easy project but if you want to come up with a unique piece of art you’ll appreciate and not just some DIY thing you did, make sure to experiment and produce the best result you can!
You bought stainable wood filler instead of spackling so it's more of a wood color to blend in with wood when doing wood projects. You can just return the unopened containers or save for future wood projects.
Yep, that’s the challenge with whites- there are WAAAYYYYYY more shades of white than there probably should be out there 😄😂!! It might help to offset the wall & canvas with navy blue, dark grey, or other dark framing that pulls some of the other colors in your room/rug up to the wall to tie the room together. Looks really fun to do 🤗!
I like it the way you hung it. I wonder if it's catching more light that way since you had painted more horizontally? I like the stippled area. It overall reminds me of a snow covered woods but I'm from Michigan too so that's normal lol Great idea!
I gotta admit I was skeptical when I started watching but I'm pleasantly surprised! I definitely wanna do this but with color to fit my style. Very inspiring!!! Thank you for sharing!!! 😍
I love that last one you did Abby❣️That is my fave also. ☺️ I may try this one day too. This is a great idea and you’re so right, you saved a lot by making your very own art work for your walls❗️🌹
It was hard to see the details in the first one, so I was sceptical. The second one came out awesome and I really love all your textures. Adding colors too could be cool, but sometimes less is better. Great job and it add a lot to your room.
*this colour of large canvas (white/cream)* would stand out better on a coloured wall since the two colours are too similar. Sorry if my comment didn't make sense. Great texture technique 👍🏼
Loving your artistic talents. And yes, it is not cheap to purchase such art work. I think you did fantastic! A whole new thing going around but I am really liking it! Perfect! I can also see that you could add to it as you wanted by applying more texture or color later as it would dry the same pretty much. I was thinking on some of the areas that have a ridge you might touch it with a bit of color lighter perhaps as your sofa or plant color or both or perhaps a frame. A faint faint small brush stroke over a ridge/ridges that is dimensional might be an idea. Your home is beautiful and a little pop of color would just bring all the surrounding items together. :-) Perhaps I'm just being a MOM ......... LOL It really is lovely and is the perfect accent to your modern style! Thank you for sharing this.....it is a awesome idea!!!
This is great! I bought one of these huge canvases when on sale as well and I've also been avoiding it being nervous of messing it up and not being 100% what i want on it...but I love the texture of this. A wood frame would look awesome. I'll add some color to mine, but I like the white as well :) thanks for sharing!!

Tfs! I'm into it! My sister and I, a couple of years ago, tried our hands at something similar. Very nice and modern looking. It's "self" expression. Leave it like it is, frame it, etc. Whatever u choose will still be nice. Again, I like it👍👍😊
Love it!!! I’m going to try it maybe on 3 panels instead of 1 large one. Did you prep the canvas at all before the spakle? Or directly applied on the canvas?
Yay!!! So excited about this video. Ok now back to the video ❤💚💜💙💛 p.s. I could see the small canvas when you had it on the floor and showing the clip of when you were just starting. Then on the wall I couldn't see the texture as much. Maybe it's my phone...I don't know. But it's beautiful and I might try something like that as soon as we can go out.
Ok...so I'm curious why did you use Woodville instead of spackle? Did you use anything on the canvas to get it to stick? I'm having issues with it cracking and coming off in whole pieces
I like the concept but you deff needed to add some color to make it stand out. Even just different shades of gray and then the white lightly throughout. It’s blends into the white wall too much and just looks like a white/blank canvas is hanging.

Exactly. She should make a metal frame around the edges. It looks too blended into the wall and thus look like part of the wall.
