The Lord of Murder shall perish, but in his doom he shall spawn a score of mortal progeny. Chaos will be sewn from their passage. So sayeth the wise Alaundo.
I can hear this
Right? Baldur's Gate is a great series.
When conflict sweeps across the Dales the great lizards of the north shall descend with fire and fury. So sayeth the great Alaundo
The funny thing is in any other colour tap: draw a card would be broken enough, but in Simic they decided to add 6 extra lines of text
It’s closer to looting than drawing a card. It’s like Jace, Vryn’s Prodigy or Jakob Hauken in that it’s looting with the possibility of casting the cards later.
@@kylejohnson4662 You mean with the guarantee of casting a card later.
@@comradecameron3726 no it's not guaranteed unless you only exile cards eith suspend that way. If your commander gets removed and the exiled dont have suspend, theyre gone for good
@@serafimb2319 you misspelled "they're gone until you recast your commander." The wording on the card doesn't create a situation where a new permanent named "Alaundo the Seer" doesn't affect cards put into exile with an old permanent named "Alaundo the Seer".
Besides, you're in blue; if Big Al gets removed, you're doing it wrong. Countermagic is potent protection.
Im loving the amount of flavour there is for Alaundo between his ability and the sheer amount of text (considering he’s the Nostradamus of the Forgotten Realms, and founder of a massive magical library). I’m hoping we get a Candlekeep card in this set - like a land or an artifact
Dont forget Illusionist's Bracers, Rings of Brighthearth, or Lithoform Engine, thats an activated ability so any of those can copy the ability, and while Rings or the Engine cost 2 to do so, thats 2 mana to potentially cast any numbers of exiled spells for free
also strionic resonator
@@g4greed502 strionic resonator won't directly copy Alaundo's *activated* ability.
It's definitely the most interesting U/G legendary I've seen in a hot minute.
Also, not bad. This one's a pretty nifty lore deep cut. It would only be more fitting if the cards were exiled face down and only you could look at them. The double-checking would get annoying in-game though, I'm cool with it as it is.
Oh look, a dramatic scepter commander
Add Experiment Kraj and a creature with untap ability like Horseshoe Crab to do this as many times as you can pay to untap
I thought with the most recent rules change, all tokens have the same rules, so the time counters from this commander and the time counters from suspend would work in the same way. You can definitely use this commander to speed up normal suspend if you wanted though.
Yeah, pretty sure you'd still remove a time counter during your upkeep
I guess we need to know what the time counter says. I didn't read it saying that a counter would be removed each upkeep but I think it should and I hope that's how it works. If it's only the commander then it's crap.
No, the time counters would not work the same. So, you can speed up normal suspend but you can't remove time counters on your upkeep because Suspend is the ability that removes the time counters.
It's actually part of the suspend mechanic not a quality of time counters.
Another good way to untap this commander as much as you want is with Aphetto alchemis and Illusionist’s bracers, you put the bracers on the alchemist, and then you can use the alchemist’s untap ability twice, allowing you to untap Alaundo along with the alchemist, and then it’s just a matter of repeating as many times as you like.
You've might have got the rulings Taken from Reddit
> 702.62b: A card is "suspended" if it's in the exile zone, has suspend, and has a time counter on it.
So if the card you exile just happens to have Suspend (and gets at least one time counter this way), it will count as a Suspended card and start removing its own counters each upkeep.
So a [[Aeon Chronicler]] exiled this way gets 5 counters and starts ticking down. Removing a time counter from it with Alaundo's ability also draws you a card.
Update: evidence is really conflicting, I have no clue
Reddit is Dunning-Kruger the site. I would disregard it as a valid source for the proper function of anything.
So intruder alarm has another friend welcome to the Alarm gang.
Dramatic Reversal + Isochron Scepter + 2 cmc of mana rocks + this commander = exile your deck and summon all creatures while giving them haste (or just trigger your Thassa's Oracle).
I love this dude looks like it's gonna be fun
4th and how come no video is showing? I blame Eddie
This is a cool card I also feel like low cost cards works great in the deck like 1 or 2 for quick free spells and isn't as telegraphed
You can also jam your 99 full of 1MV cards in addition to your combo/payoff pieces just to have Alaundo cast something like a Ponder or Unsummon each time you tap it.
1 cmc untap cards are much better they speed up your high cost things while having him tap again.
cerulean wisps is where it is at.
Just made a deck that's alot about copying and untapping a single card and it works so much better than I could have hoped
Its crazy how many cards you mentioned I already own... Like this Commander was made for me ;D
I feel like this guys is a "He Who Remains" Kang.
This would NOT work with any 0 CMC cards, right? Because there's no "last counter" On it to take off.. right?
He says it in the video
@@ethanmccabe341 Thanks, that was helpful.
and yes that was sarcastic.
@@AngelusNielson he works with all 0 cmc spells. You take it out of your hand and play it on the field paying 0. Not much of a reason to use them though.
@@regaleagle6533 There are no counters to remove. And the ability triggers when the last counter is removed. It wouldn't work.
@@AngelusNielson if you have a mana crypt in your hand you pick it up and put it on the board. You don’t need the commanders ability or to tap him. You just play it. There is no mana cost to need to speed up. There is no need for him to function with them.
2:27 into this video and I already figured out how to break this.
This is 2-color Chulane with extra steps.
See the truth could be a good card draw spell. Cheap cost and draw 3
Check out inspiring refrain. Alaundo hits time counters from actual suspend cards, so it becomes a quickly repeating draw 2.
FINALLY SOMETHING BESIDES +1+1 COUNTERS AND STRAIGHT VALUE! Well kinda value but in a balanced way unlike some of the recent stuff. Plus it gives some fresh air to a old mechanic which is nice.
Dramatic Reversal is great on an Isochron Scepter.
This goes super well in tap and untap deck for archelos that you made. Play a crap ton of cards for free.
Lol I got this guy from a card pack and as soon as I read his ability I started making a commander deck based around him
May have been said already but I think this should be called "Readying" like "ready an action" in DnD
2 cards
Presence of Gond and Intruder alarm
seems really stupid not to let this have suspend
I am goona put this in a Temur deck with Uvilda/Nassari and Wild Magic Sorcerer.
daamn, that's almost my Archelos list
Aren't time counters usually removed during the upkeep step? That would mean the time counters get removed during upkeep and also when Aluando gets tapped corect?
The removal of time counters on upkeep is specifically part of the suspend mechanic, so for cards with suspend, yes, that's correct. Alaundo doesn't actually give suspend though, so "pseudosuspended" cards from his ability only lose them from subsequent activations of his ability. That said, if you build the deck right, you'll remove WAY more counters from tapping him than you ever will on your upkeeps, so it's not a huge loss.
Yep I want this.
Oh thats crazy
This screams mind over matter
A good artifact creature I found for my Alaundo deck was Jhiora's Timebug. Tap to remove or add a time counter. I don't know if he mentioned the card, because I didn't finish the video. Still a great little card. Plus it's cheap!
All them cards coming in from exile… shame it’s not green red or red black lol
"untap target creature" spam spam spam spam spam
I’m sure that won’t get out of hand quickly
Haven't been this interested in a Simic Commander since the anti-tribal tribal commander.
why not just say give the card suspend and save on some text. its feels like when they changed unblockable to can not be blocked.
Unblockable and cannot be blocked are the same ability. This is not.....
At least it's not a simic card that plays lands then draws cards.
We need another, I almost have enough to fill out the 99 of my Simic, landfall - draw an absurd amount of cards, deck!
It's basically Jhoira, but worse, it doesn't work that much in simic in my opinion.. And with that many spell to untap it it's not worth it, just directly spend the mana to cast the spells you really want and it will work better.
Except that with this and the untap effects you can ripple like 5 spells off for the same amount of mana and draw for each of them.... the draw makes it so good cause your constantly replenishing your resources
If you are lucky and {tap} exile a card with one; {untap}{tap} exile card with two; {untap}{tap} exile card with three; then at the beginning of next turn you remove counter from 1, 2 and 3 CMC cards; but removing last counter from one will also remove additional counter from 2 and 3, and removing from 2, will remove one more from 3. It means that you cast all three 1,2 and 3 CMC cards at the same time.
Mana dorks and Intruder Alarm.
It's not worse that Jhoira, just different.
The one thing I wish this had was “face down”, thus preventing players from seeing what you plan to cast for free :)
Once somebody has seen this deck go off, they're already going to know what you plan to cast for free: your whole library. Even if you don't include infinite untap combos, a few untappers and you'll be churning through spells at lightspeed.
Yeah simic good card how amazing😅💩
Classic simic all about the value
I think this is pretty cruddy. This gets removed a couple times and your deck is dead and you can cards just sitting there with time counters. They should be able to be removed without the commander. I am glad to Simic have something different though
Don’t forget it still lets you draw a card when you tap it so even if a card can’t be cast from exile you’re still not losing any card advantage, and if you exile a 1 cost spell than it just says tap: add one mana and draw a card, your next spell is cast at instant speed
@@xandermcdonald8543 I guess that's fine but really it's just looting
@@kevinlachance669 not when you are free casting cards that draw you spells.
@@regaleagle6533 ok but then how many 1 mana draw a card spells are you gonna have in your deck. I just don't care for it unless it removes a counter on your upkeep without the commander.
@@kevinlachance669 you don’t need 1 mana draw spells you need 1 mana untap spells. Say you put an expropriate in pseudo suspend then untap with an elf you put twiddle in exile. As soon as a 1 drop untap goes off you draw and put something else on suspend it chains. So if you have something like stinging lionfish your free draw 1 suspend 1 become draw 2 suspend 1. So you can either chain untap abilities from his ability or pay mana to play them naturally to speed up things that need played. Infinite untap combos aside.
too bad Sarevok is black for Baalspawn
Only downside that I see it taking off too many time counters from spells so that they get zero counters on an opponents turn and you can’t cast the spell in exile without flash or it’s an instant
This is not true it gives everything flash
@@regaleagle6533 how?
@@st.patrickstar3701 the way it's worded gets around timing restrictions.
No time bug?
Only works with normal suspend cards
Not with other exiled ones
Venture Forth and Inspirin Refrain are the only reason why i want to build this deck. So i definitely shouldn't build this deck.
FIRST COMMENT :D
It might interact with an interesting mechanic but it doesn't do anything interesting with it... It's literally just draw card play free stuff.
OK, but who doesn't want to dump their entire library on the field for free* sometimes?
