What movie do you think should be considered a Christmas movie? Let us know in the comments down below!
_Iron Man 3._ Sat what you will about it being a good MCU movie, but it’s a great MCU/Christmas movie in my book.
Anastasia
I say it depends on the subject matter, themes, content and tone of the movie. Just because it take place on Christmas, that doesn’t mean it’s a Christmas story. If I had children, I wouldn’t want them to see ANY of these movies on this list.
Robocop 3
lethal weapon and die hard
I'll always maintain that Die Hard is a Christmas film, since not only does it take place during the Holidays, but there's a theme of forgiveness and family that's reminiscent of the Christmas Season!
To be fair Die Hard is pretty recognized as a Christmas movie know being on nearly every best Christmas movie list now
@@aaronrumph3291 That is completely fair everybody’s debating that if Die Hard is or isn’t a Christmas movie which idk bout you but in my point of view that it is a Christmas movie ESPECIALLY when it comes to Die Hard 2.
@@seanlauer9222 Lethal Weapon isn't seen as a Christmas movie though
@@aaronrumph3291 🤔 I’m still debating on whether that if it is a Christmas movie or not when it comes to Lethal Weapon
@@seanlauer9222 yeah it is hard it really depends on your criteria of what constitutes a Christmas movie if it is just a movie that happens to been set around Christmas or whether it has the Christmas spirit in it or completely in your face with Christmas
The Nightmare Before Christmas you can watch on both Halloween and Christmas. That’s what makes it so unique.
I AGREE 💯😊
That's an early December movie imo
I actually see The Nightmare Before Christmas as a movie you can watch any Holiday. After all Jack Skellington doesn’t only just see the Christmas door. I think it could be a movie you could watch on Both Halloween and Christmas and enjoy it to the fullest both holidays.
I always watch it on Halloween and Christmas. It’s both.
@@nmv33 Both times are perfect to watch The Nightmare Before Christmas.
i agree
Well you can watch any movie at any season for that matter however this movie is a Halloween movie.
Santa is in it. It automatically qualifies!
Fun Fact: ABC Family (Freeform) includes The Nightmare before Christmas in both their Halloween & Christmas lineups.
yes they do
As it should
Yes they do and I love it!! I also have it on vhs bc that’s the first movie I fully remember watching when I was younger and I love that I can share that with my son and my husband 😊
because it's both! Lol.
Oh.
"Mistletoe can be deadly if you eat it. A kiss can be deadlier if you mean it." My favorite line.
I like how Catwoman says it Batman, and then later Bruce says it to Selina Kyle, and they realise each other's identities.
I agree with Die Hard being number one AND with it being a Christmas movie! I only watch it during Christmas. Considering a huge part of the film contains Christmas songs playing in the background it’s therefore a Christmas movie. Heck, most of the time I see it free on demand is only during Christmas time so that says a lot
I almost that TNBC was 1, because two holidays in one movie? Debatable as to which one is more under of Halloween or Christmas movie.
@@monsterjamfan100xtreme4 to me it’s more Halloween than Christmas. Believe it or not, I recently saw an article online (can’t remember where) that debates the film is actually a perfect Thanksgiving movie considering that holiday “is in the middle.” Bit far fetched if you ask me.
The Nightmare Before Christmas and Krampus some of my favs, gives us Horror/Halloween in December and I’m all here for it.
We appreciate films like this. Seems like they deserve more noteworthy attention and/or recognition.
Lethal weapon 1 starts out with the LA skyline covered in Christmas Decorations while Jingle Bells is sung in the background, and ends with a Riggs being invited in to join Murtaugh's family for A Christmas dinner.
It's funny how Die Hard actually captured the Xmas spirit and I associate it with Xmas, but I totally forgot Lethal Weapon was based around the Xmas period too.
If it's not mentioned here, I will mention Go, from 1999. That is a movie set on Christmas with several characters involved in a rave party, a Vegas trip, a Christmas dinner, and the grocery store where each of the three interconnected stories begin.
Same movie I was looking for!!
So glad you put Trading Places on here….. also Lethal Weapon 1…. And yes Die Hard is a Christmas movie!! No doubt about it!
The Stanley Kubrick classic 'Eyes Wide Shut' is a great Christmas film for adults🤣
The genius of The Nightmare Before Christmas is that you can watch it anytime you want: on Halloween, on Christmas, on any day of the year when you wish it was one of those holidays.
Gremlins is hands down my favorite "Kinda-Christmas" movie. I also love watching The Ice Harvest (Jon Cusack and Billy Bob Thornton) every year.
"Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" is one of my favorite movies any time of the year.
I think Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is one of the most underappreciated movies of all time.
The Family Man with Nic Cage is an often over looked Christmas themed movie. Its a hidden gem which doesn’t get enough recognition.
Absolutely, that’s a great Christmas movie right there!
Batman Returns and Die Hard and Gremlins and Edward Scissor Hands are definitely Christmas movies. There is a ‘Cult’ movie - Brazil, directed by Terry Gilliam that takes place during Christmas but it’s rather dark and depressing but I love it because it’s brilliant 🎉🎄☃️🎁
That the one with de Niro? With the whole 1984 vibe?
@@brownsey1 yes: Harry Tuttle or Buttle - my friends call me Harry. It’s possible he existed only in Sam’s
Mind because he was sort of crazy
love Edward Scissorhands
What about the Harry Potter movies?
It even has a "must buy" executive gift that was specially designed for the film...
One thing we can all agree on is that all these movies have more to do with Christmas than any Hallmark "Christmas" movie.
I know another debatable Christmas Movie called "The Ref", it's about this toxic couple with relationship problems being held Hostage by a Burglar, and it's set on Christmas Eve, and the couple's family is coming over, and as it turns out, everyone in this family is absolutely Jaded and horrible, and the question becomes "Who's the Real Hostage, here?"
Sounds like the "real hostage" is the audience watching the movie lol
@@IhaveaDoghouse it has Kevin Spacey and Denis Leary in it, btw.
"The Long Kiss Goodnight" is one of my top 5 Christmas movies. A fine respite from the usual sugary fare that seems to define traditional Christmas entertainment.
I love that film 🎅💜
9:47 Actually jack wanted to send Santa on a Vacation on a nice place for the Holidays: The ones he entrusted Santa to them however, send him in a…not so “Good” Place
I always considered Shazam a Christmas movie. 🎄🎥 ⚡️
Shazam? I should watch that during the holidays from now on
Yeah, it’s a wonder that they didn’t have it at least as an honorable mention here!
Saw this title. Immediately knew what would be No. 1
Hint: Yes, I wholly believe that No. 1 is a Christmas movie! 😜😂🎅🏼
The princess bride could be on the list. If you look around Fred Savage’s room there are Christmas decorations.
Actually there’s only a likely made in school Santa Claus, BUT when mom opens the you can see Christmas lights on the houses outside.
10) Carol
9) Lethal Weapon
8) Edward Scissorhands
7) Black Christmas
6) Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
5) Trading Places
4) Gremlins
3) The Nightmare Before Christmas
2) Batman Returns
Honorable Mentions
- Catch Me If You Can
- Long Kiss Goodnight
- Iron Man 3
- Rocky 4
1) Die Hard
Gremlins
For the last few years I have been trying to get people to see "The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe" as a Christmas movie. It has Father Christmas and a Christ analogue in Aslan.
A Nightmare Before Christmas is a holiday classic. It’s a Halloween and Christmas film. It’s a great mind bending horror comedy and I watched it already on Thanksgiving!
You guys should do a 10 most underrated Christmas movies, like 29th street, or Emmett otters jug band Christmas. I can count on one hand how many people have seen 29th Street, and suggest it to EVERYONE! Danny Aiello, Anthony lapaglia, and a few others. Check it out!
Emmett Otter is one of my all time favorite Christmas movies! Loved it ever since I was a kid!
This is a GREAT idea! I hope they do it. I've never even heard of 29th Street (though I will check it out!) but Emmett Otter's Jug Band Christmas is an absolute treasure, and I can think of several others, too. (PS Another great one with Anthony LaPaglia is Mixed Nuts. He's just one of an incredible cast. Have a look if you haven't before!)
I would add an old network movie- "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever!"
'Just Friends' always gets watched at Christmas in our house
I feel that Cheaper by the Dozen (2003) belongs on this list as well because A) the film centers on family which is the most important thing, B) it came out on Christmas Day in 2003, C) they celebrate Christmas at the end of the film (I know, spoiler) and D) a Christmas song by Hilary Duff is played during the end credits
The Nightmare Before Christmas is both a Christmas and Halloween movie but still definitely a Christmas movie. It has the symbols traditionally related to Christmas: (Santa's, elves, his village, toymaking, Christmas tree etc.) While showing an entire population experience Christmas for the first time and making theirs own version.
Nightmare Before Christmas is absolutely a Christmas movie. It just also happens to he a Halloween movie too
It's both
I consider "DIE HARD" as one of the best Christmas film in history but also one of the greatest action movie of all time.
I love watching the long kiss goodnight around Christmas time ☃️❄🎅🤶
Edward Scissorhands , Black Christmas Batman Returns are definitely Christmas movies. Nightmare before Christmas is both Halloween and Christmas. Prometheus is also a Xmas movie. I watch these always in December
Happy holidays guys!
My favorite Christmas movie is Silent Night,Deadly Night, followed by Krampus.
Shazam should be on there since the movie took place in a Christmas setting.
DIE HARD is a Christmas movie. It ends with “Let It Snow” by Redbone. Plus there’s several Christmas gags in it.
I just started watching Die Hard on Christmas Eve recently and it is my favorite little Holiday tradition with myself. It officially passed Home Alone as my favorite Christmas movie
Always watch nightmare before Christmas and die hard in xmas time. It's tradition
I can’t believe “The Nightmare Before Christmas” is debated as a Christmas movie. Can’t it be both a Halloween and Christmas movie?
Thank you for the update, WatchMojo..!! On UA-cam, there's a video called 'It's not Christmas until Hans Gruber falls from the Nakatomi Plaza.'
My favorite Christmas Movie? Psycho. Admittedly the only reason it takes at Christmastime is because the film crew shooting pick-up shots failed to notice the seasonal street decorations. Hitchcock was on a tight budget and couldn't afford the reshoot. Doesn't affect the plot much otherwise, although it might mean the scene with the sheriff exiting the church could be on Dec 24. That would mean that Marion Crane's automobile (and contents) was recovered Christmas Day. Happy Holidays!
no honorable mention to While you were sleeping? Sandra gets a new family(and hubby) for Christmas.
"The Last Unicorn" (1982) and "Three Wishes for Cinderella" (1973) better be on this list.
People are most likely not gonna agree with me on this one. But Spider-Man Into The Spider-Verse and No Way Home are to me considered Christmas movies. Especially since they both take place on December around Christmas time. Plus, Spider-verse has a Christmas song called Spidey Bells. So yeah, those are mine
This is just my top 10 list of Christmas movies 😳
Don't really have much to add here but damn I love Gremlins. That movie is so great.
Another one that you missed was The Ice Harvest (2005), with John Cusack and Billy Bob Thorton.
so you're gonna do a top 10 christmas horror movies list?
which will include better watch out and anna and the apocalypse
My favorite Christmas movie is Spielberg's 1941.
Hollywoooooooood
YES! Someone else that agrees with me. Besides its detractors. You know the ones. Never saw 5 minutes of it. Beleagured plot/runtime be damned. And John Williams scored the HELL out that movie!
I legit forgot that Rocky 4 was set at Christmas.
7:34 "Hello security,merry Christmas" lol
From the old Hollywood era, movies like The Apartment and Meet Me in St. Louis have been debated as Christmas films. I think because The Apartment is not a Christmasy as most films are but it does take place during that time. And hey, It's a Wonderful Life's Christmas scenes are relatively short so The Apartment can count. As for Meet Me in St. Louis, the film's runtime is mainly in the summer and fall, but because the Christmas section is famous and is not too short of a sequence, it counts as a Christmas film.
Love Actually is my favorite Christmas movie though others don't see it as a Christmas movie. Go figure. 🤔
Shazam is also a Christmas movie because the big theme is billy finding a family
It’s not Christmas until Hans Gruber falls out of Nagatomi Plaza
The Long Kiss Goodnight... fun movie. Rocky? Not a Christmas movie none of them lol.. On my list is True Romance!! Great Christmas movie!
NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS COUNTS AS A HALLOWEEN AND CHRISTMAS MOVIE!
WOW, THANK YOU. I wholeheartedly agree with 7 of your top ten with only Carol, Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang and Trading Places missing out. I even agree with 1 of your honorable mentions: The Long Kiss Goodnight. Your #1 IS my favorite Christmas movie of all time. And I made this top 25 best Christmas list before I watched your vid:
1. Die Hard (1988)
2. Go (1999)
3. Misery (1990)
4. Krampus (2015)
5. The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992)
6. Elf (2003)
7. Scrooged (1988)
8. Ernest Saves Christmas (1988)
9. Midnight and the Garden of Good and Evil (1997)
10. National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (1989)
11. The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)
12. Batman Returns (1992)
13. Anna and the Apocalypse (2017)
14. Better Watch Out (2016)
15. Office Christmas Party (2016)
16. A Christmas Horror Story (2015)
17. Black Christmas (1974)
18. A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas (2011)
19. Lethal Weapon (1987)
20. Edward Scissorhands (1990)
21. A Christmas Story (1983)
22. Night of the Comet (1984)
23. The Night Before (2015)
24. Die Hard 2 (1990)
25. The Long Kiss Goodnight (1996)
Honorable Mention:
Gremlins (1984)
"HARDWARE" (1990) - It rakes place on Christmas, Santa Clause is mentioned and it uses biblical texts and imagery. I watch it every Christmas season.
I'll never understand how Frozen is considered a Christmas movie to some people, yet it doesn't take place at Christmas, but in Summer.
It’s kind of the same for Home Alone 3, but that movie takes place after December.
It has something to do with the TV show Going Places it lasted for 19 episodes in 1990 to 1991. Part of ABC TGIF on Friday nights aired at 9:30pm. To this day QB + hasn't announced the reboot with Delvin Wilder and Janette Armond the actress from Zombies of Mass Destruction. Hope this clears things up for you.
Thanks for the List 😀
My kids and I say Nightmare is a Thanksgiving movie. It starts the day after Halloween and ends on Christmas, so most is Thanksgiving
There's a turkey-shaped door in the clearing.😁
So Batman and Ironman joined
forces for the holidays.
Intriguing.
I like TRADING PLACES and I love EDWARD SCISSORHANDS, GREMLINS, and THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS.
For me, Shane Black = Christmas Movie. Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang; Lethal Weapon; Long Kiss Goodnight, and even Iron Man 3 are always on my Christmas viewing list.
For me I think it would be Steven Spielberg’s Hook with Robin Williams.
I watch most of those movies during the holiday season. I even watch Night Before Christmas on Christmas Day.
Honorable mentions should be for Almost Famous (at least the beginning of the movie) and Three Days of the Condor
I think Truman Capote's " A Christmas Memory" should be on your list.
Die Hard happened at Christmas time. The theme was not Christmas. If I start giving people advice for their issues, it doesn’t make me a therapist until I’m licensed. You just can’t call something a specific title just because it’s there. It needs context. Not just a HoHoHo line.
Batman Returns is a Christmas movie because the plot takes place around the holiday season
While you were sleeping begins on Xmas, don't forget Die hard 2. Love Christmas Movies!
In Bruges was set around Christmas if you view the background and for verbal confirmation Harry's wife being concerned about him going away on holiday
Yay, The Long Kiss Goodnight (1996) is an honourable mention.
Watching "Trading Places" on 31th december is a tradition in Italy
Before I even watch this, Batman Returns better be number 1!
Uhhh... On Her Majesty's Secret Service is not only a stunning James Bond film, full of amazing set pieces, chases and cinematography, but it's set around the Swiss Alps during Christmas. They even wrote a song to play in the background of certain village scenes that became a popular Christmas carol... but not even an honourable mention??
2013's "Frozen" should have been an Honorable mention. While not a Christmas one, the snow defiently helps people watch people in December...
Of the ones in this list I admit I watch Nightnare before Christmas in December and I have watched Die Hard and Edwards Scissorhands in January, many years ago I watched Batman returns right around Christmas.
West Side Story is one I would say embodies Christmas the essential theme throughout the musical is love and family will overcome and violence doesn't solve anything it just makes things worse. To me at least Christmas is about love and family
I consider Little Women (1994) a Christmas film. It starts on a Christmas and ends on a Christmas.
Die Hard falls into the same category as Blade Runner. Where the intent of the movie is changed years later by the director to stir up more interest in the film & sell more home video copies. Ridley Scott comes out years later, when people come up with a theory that Decker is a replicant & then just comes out & says "Oh yeah, that's true. He's a replicant." Same thing with Die Hard. People start saying it's a Christmas movie & then McTiernan comes out & is like "Oh yeah, it's definitely a Christmas movie. Be sure to watch it every year. Better yet, buy it."
OH COME ON!!! How can you say Gremlins is DEBATABLY a Christmas movie? It's all about Christmas (and Gremlins).
NGL, I was a little disappointed Rise of the Guardians didn't at least get a mention. Yeah, it's technically set during Easter, but Santa and his elves (not to mention yetis) WERE in the movie, plus it came out right before Christmas. Batman Returns came out in JUNE, for Pete's Sake.
10. Carol is a Christmas movie and i will be adding it to this years marathon. Not every Christmas film has to be happy.
09. If Diehard is considered a Christmas movie than so is Lethal Weapon and i grew up watching Lethal Weapon not Diehard. It is what it is!
08. Edward Scissorhands is not a constant christmas movie i watch but this year im doing a Tim Burton Christmas movie marathon so this will be added to it with Batman Returns and Nightmare Before Christmas
07. Black Christmas is definitely a Christmas film especially for horror fans who are still dealing with the Halloween hangover. I now always have to add Christmas horror films to my Christmas marathon.
06. Much like Tim Burton i am honoring and showing love to Shane Black this year with The Long Kiss Goodnight, Iron Man 3, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and The Nice Guys. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is also one of my all time favorite movies. So readding to this years marathon has me very excited.
05. Trading Places has made every single Christmas marathon ecer since i saw it. Its another film thats one of my favorites and doesnt feel like December without watching it.
04. Gremlins i did add a few times but haven't lately. I'm not this year but it's always an option i keep in my long list of rotating films ive watched during the month of December.
03. The Nightmare Before Christmas is without a doubt both a Christmas and Halloween film. I go back and forth on watching it during both Halloween and Christmas. This year i will be watching it and kicking off my Christmas marathon.
02. Batman Returns will be a part of my Tim Burton Christmas marathon with Edward Scissorhands and The Nightmare Before Christmas.
01. I added Diehard one year for my annual Christmas marathon but i fell asleep five straight nights trying to watch it. I want to add the Diehard 2 and 3 to the marathon to go with it but its been hard to readd it.
I've seen part of "Nightmare Before Christmas". I want to see the whole movie. I didn't know "Rocky IV" was a Christmas movie, let alone not hear the rest on this list. Christmas is my favorite holiday! It's the most wonderful time of the year. This is a great list! I've seen a superbowl commercial with a boy who has scissors as hands. Life was kinda tought for him.
Rocky fights Ivan Drago on Christmas Day, much of his training takes part in the snow of Russia so it feels christmassy in a way
Friday after next is a Christmas movie to me I watch it every year 😂
i say in a fun way it's hard to say if nightmare before Christmas is a Christmas movie because i would say it's theme seems more Halloween like, but the movie is about Christmas just takes place in a place known for Halloween
Die Hard is definitely a Christmas movie ‼️😊 I'll go ahead and add Lethal Weapon as a Christmas movie, as well. Both movies are amazing franchises. 🎄🎄
I have never seen Carol, Edward Scissor Hands, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, but all the rest I consider NOT Christmas movies but all are great movies ( ok maybe not Batman Returns)!
I would like to make the case for Die Hard 2. Set at Christmas like the first but has snow. Hey, works for me!
Generally if it makes you feel like its Christmas while watching it. Then chances are ( I ) Consider it a Christmas movie.
The Nightmare Before Christmas 🥰
Mean Girls because they sing and dance to Jingle Bell Rock in cute Santa Claus dresses and hats. They also jingle festive bells, and wear beautiful high heels.
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is a great great movie!
Jurassic World. The first scene where the boys are getting ready for the airport indicates that they're going on a Holiday vacation.
James Bond-film "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" was also set in christmas.
