The DUALITY Of JUSTIFIED | JUSTIFIED (2010) Character Analysis

- Justified is what I consider a modern western. We have a main villain, just as intriguing as our main protagonist. Let's talk about the similarities between Raylan Givens and Boyd Crowder.

Boyd Crowder’s character development needs to be studied by anyone who has an interest in writing. He went from a “villain of the week,” to sympathetic side character, to anti-hero, to criminal mastermind to full-fledged villain. Every character on the show is amazing and believable. Timothy Olyphany oozes charisma as Raylan Givens, but my eyes are glued to the screen every time Boyd enters the room.
First of all that goggin smile gets u every time haha. And yes Boyd is truly a sight to see. I really wanna make an analysis on Limehouse he was the real OG
I truly enjoyed your breakdown of the show. I’ve seen it three times, and it’s definitely in my top ten (if not top five). Outstanding video! Thank you for making it.
Thanks man that means so much. Justified is truly a sensation. How do you feel about City Primeval?
Equally as interesting are Wayne Duffy and Maggs Bennett. Between Boyd, Wayne, Quarls, and Maggs, you get four sides to breaking the law. The outlaw, the conman, the family criminal, and the psycho. Also, beyond their elders and childhood, they share the same woman, who, I might add, is really the match to their fire with her killing of Bowman. The most interesting character to me beyond Raylan is Art, who is the father figure. He is everything that Arlo wasn't. His opinion of Raylan never changes; it is just confirmed. Raylan was going to be the death of him, yet they loved one another. Raylan so often was forced to act, but he also put himself in such a position as a matter of choice. Maimi shows us who he was. Interestingly, I think Raylan and Bullock would have been friends or maybe brothers. Ryan and Seth are the same characters, and for my money, Tim is the best western sheriff in the business. Hell, he was even good in the Mandalorian as a sheriff. All I can say is that better the John Wayne at least,
Hell yeah man. I know I’m excited for comments but this is the engagement I’m trying to create so thanks for that. Seems like you should’ve made the video lol. I love the parallels you present. I definitely did touch on these guys but I’m trying to produce shorter videos. The OG vid was like 15 min. Can’t forget about Bob the Contable and Limehouse. These two guys were serious as a heart attack on everything they do. Also love your interpretation of Art. Never looked at him as the father figure but now that you say it, that’s a whole video by itself. Stay tuned for more my guy. Working on a video for Netflix’s Beef.
@@ACGTV I agree about Limehouse. In a way, Maggs, and Limehouse, represent bringing in the new v what to do with the old. Maggs wants a new life and new world, whereas Limehouse only wants what he has and to keep it.
Constable Bob, I thought, was not nearly explored as it could have been. According to Tim on Conan, everyone on the set was wonderful other than one guy. Patton Oswald, who he called a bit of a dick.
Best show ever. I love Raylan Givens. What a great character. I still love the episode where they are getting ready to raid Nobles holler and he gives his speech to Rachel and Tim about waking up every morning excited about the opportunity to ruin some bad guys day
I will say easily on my top 5. Raylan is an absolute beast in the most chill way possible. My favorite quote is “DON SHOO MU BRUTHUR RAYLAN!!!”
Very good analysis. Maybe it's because of my Appalachian roots, but I am unabashed in saying that I liked both of these characters quite a lot, even as I found them both to be morally challenged. i guess the thing is a lot of people don't understand that everybody is more than one person at the same time and it's entirely consistent to me to both like them and be wary of them at the same time
Exactly that’s why this show is so good. You can honestly root for both characters while still seeing the bad in them. The understanding of both their desires and needs is crucial to enjoying the show but once you do it becomes a whole character study. I should’ve don’t a Limehouse video.
@@ACGTV Yeah, you should. He's another wonderfully complicated guy.
Just wanted to say i love this review . There are barely any analysis videos on this great series . On the surface this series was just a great series with funny dialogue with nothing special. After a deep dive raylan is a crazy complex character who works outside the line . His boss is constantly questioning him , his coworkers are curious why he gets away with the things he does . Is he any better than Boyd or is he just on the lighter side of the spectrum
Like I said bro. He’s Boyd with a badge.
I'm rewatching Justified, right now! I just started Season 4. I love, love this show! Raylan is so smooth, calm and collective! Plus, he's the fastest draw. I can't tell you, how many times I jumped after he shot someone! LOL! They never saw it coming. Of course, Raylan's going to do whatever he wants and Art's going to clean up his mess. That's how most of these shows work. Love Raylan and Winona together!
Okay dude if ur rewatching, you gotta go watch city primeval. Raylan ends up messing with this heavy set black woman and it’s awesome lol. My favorite draw was definitely the 21 foot rule lol.
Okay dude, I'll check out City Primeval. I'm on the last season of Justified, right now. It just flew by. I'm really gonna miss that cowboy! LOL! Next time, I rewatch Justified I'm going to watch the bonus features, commentaries, gag reels, all that good stuff. Too bad, Raylan and Winona didn't stay together. I heard about him and that heavy set black woman. (Crazy!) LOL! BTW! Did you ever get around to rewatching Rescue Me? I'm toying with the idea of watching The Shield. I never watched it, while it was on FX.
Okay bro. I wanna talk to you about everything else. But THE SHIELD. MY NUMBER 2 Favorite show of all time!!!!!!Go finish Justified. Go watch the shield. And when you finish that you’ll be able to go see more raylan with city primeval.
Bro?! Am I one of the boys, now?! LOL! As soon as I finish Justified, I'm going to rewatch some of my movies. I'm starting to miss my movies. I have all summer to watch movies and TV shows. I know, Walton Goggins started out on The Shield. Me and one of my friends were talking about The Shield, a few weeks ago. He said, it's one of the best shows ever. I didn't know, it was that good?!
For one. You are totally one of the boys now. 2 The shield is THAT DAMN GOOD!
What i really like about the character Raylan is that he is almost an anti hero, he is charismatic but also an asshole sometimes. And he is not portrayed like some super hero, he is flawed and gets his ass kicked and gets shot. Ah man now i need to watch it again :P
You gotta watch justified again and rewatch city primeval. The older I get the more I understand raylan. He’s a very “do what you gotta do” character while still maintaining that magnificent swagger and morals to abide by
Very good narrative on Boyd , in fact very good on those boys.
Thanks man. I wanna do a City Primeval vid but I feel like I need more content first
nice!!
Thanks man. Stay tuned for Justified: Primeval
This videos a banger
No ur a banger
And each season got better and better
How does a writer consistently top themselves over and over again…pause
Nice. Thnak you.
Ofc
@@ACGTV Quoi ?
Is it right for his boss to keep sending Raylan in mess because he knows Raylan is hated by outlaws because of his last name and he gets results.
IDK man maybe it’s plot armor lol. But you can’t deny, no matter how much BS Raylan gets into, he always, always, always gets results.
They dug coal together
They dug coal together
Nice. Do more
I absolutely will.
It's not Good writing, its Justified.
Indeed it is haha
Ditto on Detroit.
Big ditto. It’s gonna be gritty.
