I asked my daughter what she wanted to do for her 8th birthday. She said, “I want to stay at the haunted hotel”, so we stayed at the Stanley. We didn’t see any ghosts, but it was still really fun.

I worked at the Stanley as my first job. I was a housekeeper when I was 15 years old. I guess it was 1989 or so and I worked for a summer. I’ve been in every room in there! I’m actually from Estes Park, so I’ve been there many times. The tunnel is actually where our break room was back in the day. Cool video, made for a lot of nostalgia.

I lived in Estes Park 2001-2002, and worked at the Stanley. The hotel has changed drastically in 20 years! I actually did a massage for 2 sisters in room 217, very heavy energy in that room.
I have some stories from that hotel, as my ex gf did tours there. F O Stanley's wife still enjoys playing the piano. That figure that you had mentioned, is said to be F O Stanley's wife standing at the top of the stairs greeting and watching guests.
Word has it that Neil Young and Peter Gabriel stayed at the Stanley while playing Denver.

I happened to be there when they were filming the mini-series. While on vacation I was headed for the entrance of the Rocky Mountains National Park, and decided to stop to sightsee at the Stanley (being a fan of the novel). A guy stopped me at the bottom of the hill & made me shut off the car engine because they were shooting a scene outside in front of the hotel. It was the scene where Halloran talks with Danny at the swing set. After they finished the scene I was allowed to drive up, park, and walk around the whole property. I was able to take photos of various set pieces, including the mock section of roof that Jack is shown repairing.

Also if you would’ve looked up the stairway to the “5th” floor it says REDRUM on the ceiling. We did the middle of the night ghost tour and I got my hair pulled and felt fingers wrap around my leg to the point where I screamed and ran by the maintenance man in the basement of the ballroom. We also saw Mrs Stanley’s spirit on the balcony of the ballroom.

The house that Indiana and his dad lived in when they were young and seen at the beginning of the film is now a bed and breakfast. There is also a really cool train you can take there. The town is called Antonito and it's on the Colorado New Mexico border. So something to think about for one day.

Although the mini series (1997) is historically cool documenting The Stanley, I believe the original Kubrick’s, The Shining (1980) is an all time cinematic masterpiece and if anyone attempts a shot by shot remake, Timberline Lodge on Mount Hood, in Oregon is the majestic location. Kubrick was the greatest filmmaker with the scariest visual literacy for the initial screenplay. Overall, Cool vlog Adam with great overlooking views.

Yes, Kubrick’s The Shining is a masterpiece and it’s one of my favorite films. But it is not fair to compare the 1997 version to it. They are completely different. One is a loose adaptation from the creative mind of Stanley Kubrick, and one is a faithful adaptation written by Stephen King himself. They stand on their own.

Oh that’s awesome ! I took the tour when I was there last week and it was very interesting history of the hotel and the Stanley family ….I think Estes Park has been my favorite part of CO to visit ….hopefully Adam you visited the National Park as well while your in the area …FYI we ate at this place called I Need Pie next to Safeway in town and The Beef Stroganoff was awesome..my family had other things on the menu but my sister in law said it’s a must have when they visit …. The morning shake was also awesome it’s like a orange whip if anyone remembers those 😉

Thanks Adam, one of the BEST tours of the Stanley I have seen to date. 🎬 I go to Estes Park frequently, and take my friends into the city itself to shop, eat, and see the mooses. I go to the Stanley at least twice per year, once in the spring and once in the fall/winter, snow providing. 👻You missed the Twin Owls (rock formation) that actually do look like twin owls. I do a lot of Christmas shopping in the city itself, they have cool shops. Estes Park is of my fav cities in Colorado, there's just a "vibe".

So cool Adam! Hubby and I were there in September just touring the grounds. To spooky for me to even think about spending a night.

I'm partial to the Kubrick version myself. The ax going through the door is way more scarier than a croquet mallet. Besides Shelly Duvall's portrayal was actually real. She was traumatized for years. And the ending was so fitting. Seeing Nicholson getting frozen in the snow, I wanted to tell him to "Just Chill!!"

Agreed. It’s not even close , the Kubrick version is superior from a film standpoint

Probably one of my favorite videos on this channel! The Stanley Hotel is definitely on my bucket list as the shining is one of my all time favorite movies. If you ever catch yourself in Portland, Oregon check out the benson! Stayed there a few times and gives similar haunted/old school vibes. There are some ghost stories connected with that place too.

Adam, I must say, I was watching your food reviews from the beginning of the pandemic and you look so much more tone, epic work man. Keep it up :)
I'm from orange county, ca and I worked in estes park for a summer job in 2017 down the street from The Stanley and this video was extremely nostalgic for me 🙂

When built in 1909 (Looks great for 113) The guests came to the hotel for the fresh mountain air, however only seasonal, a bit TOO fresh in winter. The account tells of them arriving at the hotel in Stanley Steamer Automobiles and were dumbstruck at the grandeur of the place. A chance to visit you won't forget Adam.

Great video Adam! Love seeing all historical scenes and locations. When we stayed at the Disney World Boardwalk Inn, our room was at the end of the very very long hallway which reminded us of the Shining. We created a quick little VLOG to capture the long hallway eeriness but nothing captures it like you did here in actual hallways. Thanks for such a great video and keep up all the good work! I doubt those ghost stay in one room... LOL.
