    You can also grow/transplant herbs and other scented plants to combat pests, it’s almost as if my pumpkins were invisible last year with mint, basil, and even marigolds growing around them.

    I also use neem.....I spray both sides of leaves.......but this summer around July I notices a lot of potato bugs......but I also had a number of lady bugs......I thought they would take care of the bug......so I used neem with a little bit of soap and water and it worked wonderfully! Thank you for your video. Wa st..

    I have 15 pie pumpkins growing right now and they each have plenty of space. There are lots of leaves and male flowers that are blossoming beautifully. However all the female flowers with the pumpkins underneath keep turning yellow and falling off. The flowers do not even have a chance to open up. I'm getting so discouraged about it. It would stink to have all my time and energy wasted if I do not have pumpkins at the end of the season. Plus, I found 4 small vine borers today. I hope I can find something encouraging soon. I've been checking them day and night and sprayed neem oil on them. I'll go out and by some stuff you mentioned soon.

    Oh wow. Spinosad...Several years ago a pediatrician told me the only thing that could kill the lice on my kid’s head was spinosad. She got her info from the CDC but said the reason it is not widely used is because it is super expensive. I paid about $200 or so for a few doses. I wonder how the foliar concoction compares in ppm and price.

    Your videos are fantastic, thank you. I'm in week 3 of my first time growing pumpkins and it's coming along nicely so far. I'm concerned about pests and have gotten Neem oil, Captain Jacks, and BT. Could you comment on how often you apply the neem oil/soap mixture in conjuction with Captain Jack's and BT?

    What is deflating my pumpkins? They’ll get like up to ~8” long then we go out the next time and look and they’re flat. We’ve lost 5 so far this year.

      I'm sorry for the late response. Not sure if you've been able to figure anything out yet. Few questions and thoughts...
      1) What kind of pumpkins are you growing?
      2) How do your vines and leaves look?
      3) How often are you watering?
      4) Where do you live and how has the weather been?
      In short, most common causes are stress (heat, sun, cold, etc), diseases, and/or insects. Lastly, it could also be that your pumpkins weren't properly pollinated.

    Found this video incredibly useful. Thanks. Have one reservation, though. On a list of pesticides, I found Spinosad (Captain Jack Deadbug) listed as very toxic to bees?

    • @antt02
      @antt02 5 років тому

      I've read that too. I use a different brand of spinosad to control leaf miners on my citrus trees; I just make sure to not use it while the trees are flowering.

    I have a problem where my pumpkin flower would be pollinated and then little pumpkin start to form, but then it will turn yellow and start to rot. have you had this problem ? any suggestions would be greatly appreciate it

      It appears that the female flower was not pollinated from the male. In my yard ants steal pollen. You can learn how to pollinate female flowers with a small paint brush or use the male stamin by plucking a male, pull out the yellow side flowers, then use the stain itself. There are videos that show you how.
