Synopsis:
In the new film The 5th Wave, four waves of increasingly deadly attacks have left most of Earth decimated. Against a backdrop of fear and distrust, Cassie (Chloë Grace Moretz) is on the run, desperately trying to save her younger brother. The viruses wont stop, until all countries are set up peacefully under a civil defense type of system to slow down consumption of global resources so there is enough for everybody (clean water, oil products, general household goods, anything mam made). Around 1997 the top 5 militaries and govts, realized the earth populations are using too much of everything to survive the next 40 years of climate change. So the idea is slow down commerce back to 1980 levels.
I remember the first day they shut everything down. I walked from my job up the street and every shop was closed and a cop was standing watch over a single food truck. I truly was in a dystopian film...and we still are

When you think about the hype that other movies made in the same genre (Hunger Games, Divergent, Maze Runner etc.) 5th Wave seems like a very underrated movie. It was just like them, so if you liked them, you would love this as well.
Thank you just convinced me not to watch it. So hard to find a good sci-fi movie these days without all the dramatic teenage stuff. Seems like another chick flick to me.

I just finished the book and for me it seemed forced there too, I haven't read the second one tho! The only time I considered them cute was when [SPOILER] Evan and Cassie reunited in Wright-Pattterson. Only then. But idk for me it's a weird relationship, I guess because of the enviroment.
The relationship always made since to me because (SPOILER) Evan finds Cassie and saves her. This at a time where she though she was the last human on Earth. Seeing a guy like him probably wasn't too hard to fall for. And then he betrays everything he's been programmed to think for his love of her. Now how is that forced?

It's a science fiction series, not some love triangle shit. If it was, I wouldn't have read it. It was good that Cassie didn't end up 'saving the world' but someone else (clearly more capable) did.

-first I trust that planes don't just fall from the sky when it's engines stop. I think it glides a bit?
-it was implied that the waves didn't start immediately after the sighting of the Others, wouldn't the government be at least some what prepared?
-No one, not a single person, suspected 'the US Army'? I mean they KNOW that engines don't move, wouldn't they be a tad bit suspicious?
-the romance/love at first sight between the two main characters make zero sense
-when Ringer quit and Ben realised that they were the fifth wave. It was very abrupt and sudden and really made no sense. It was as if he had no idea and then suddenly he has an explanation to everything.
-when Ben went back for Sam. In an life or death environment like this he would be out of his mind to go back for Sam. They weren't even shown as really close.
-how did Evan plant the bombs?
But I think that most of these issues, especially character development would be solved in the books.

This as a whole is better than the first trailer. Well excluding the beginning of the first trailer. This trailer did have things in it that annoyed me. I hated the voice over and it made me cringe. That being said, I'm still iffy on this movie. I don't like the relationship between the girl and the blue eyed guy. It seems forced. Also, everyone but Chloe seems not to get dirty whatsoever.
If you actually read the book you would understand.

"Then blue eyed guy" is named Evan and Cassie and him are in love for most of it. It isn't forced. Either read the books (there is 2 out and the last (3rd) comes out soon) or wait till the movie to make that sort of judgment. They're great. Trust me.

Wonder if there will ever be an "Alien Invasion" movie with some balls where it's dark, where there's no Disney victory in the end, no miraculous defeat of a species that has the insane intelligence/technological advantage over us. Just give me a movie like that where all hope is lost, extinction is at hand, etc.
All these silly alien movies follow the same steps....aliens discovered, aliens seem dreadful, massive defeat is felt, then some bullshit victory is had by our hands somehow going all the way back to the cheesy ID4 (at least that movie wasn't trying to be too serious so I'll give it that pass).

Skyline just didn't have enough punch for me. It was indeed a dark movie where there was no miraculous victory but it just didn't have that mouth dropped reaction for me.

However, if I were an alien with intergalactic travel I'd want to wipe out any irrational religion oriented species before they could colonize and infest the rest of the galaxy. Even if resources weren't an issue, a point could be made about the necessity of wiping out all humans.

All I can say at least these alien invaders did it right strategically. I mean almost every "aliens invade Earth" movie has them coming down and doing a ground assault instead of just staying in orbit and killing us from a safe distance. If they have superior tech and weapons then they should use them without losing any of their own soldiers imo.

If you say that The 5th Wave is a copy of Divergent - you need to stop running your mouth. I have read The 5th Wave and The Infinite Sea and they are polar opposites. Both are equal my all time favorite book series and there is nothing more I hate than people who say stupid shit without knowing the facts. THEY ARE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. Ciao.

I love this movie among all of the apocalypse movies Ive watched. They literally made the virus, the tsunami, earthquake and alien invasion into a whole one awesome movie! This is insane! (Good thing zombies are not included 😅) And I love that there is little romance too amidst of the end of the world. And I always love chloe moretz.

Angela Last I mean a lot of movies like this try to spam out two or three more movies for maximum revenue, claiming its a "phenomenon", when it's mediocre at best. Kind of like Divergent, or Twilight, where the quality of the movie doesn't matter, but the expense willing to be paid by the producer does.
Perhaps I'm wrong though, until I see footage from a sequel, I can't really say anything bad against it. :T
Oh ok then. but this is a great movie I haven't read the book at all but I loved the movie and it's better then Twilight and I didn't really like Divergent I love the actress Chloe Grace mortez in this movie she's great actress.

The book was fucking sensational it had me crying and absolutely dying over it but I just don't feel like the movie did it justice. People said there was loose ends, COURSE THERE FUCKING WAS, IT'S MEANT TO HAVE BC THERE'S ANOTHER TWO FILMS YET TO COME OUT! Having said that (or shouted it), it was still fairly good considering the fact that there was so much to put into it

Tash Maria Cool that you liked it so much. Just think it is a rushed movie where the story line falls apart. First few waves were devastating, than all of a sudden they have to resort on a group of kids to fight for them. Makes no sense. Can travel great distances in the Galaxy but let's cross our fingers that the kids will prevail. story line falls off a cliff.
+rschritt Not sure if you read the book, but from your comment I'm going to assume you didn't. It the book it explains why they "needed" the kids to fight, it wasn't so much about the fighting but about who was fighting. It comes back to the 4th wave (you don't know who's human or not anymore) but better because if you use human kids to kill the rest of the humans (and inevitably also get killed in the process) you kill all (or most of) the humans and the human nature if those who you didn't kill. I know it probably sounds confusing but it explains it in the book.
