Paul screamed and yelled for hours to get his voice hoarse enough to achieve the sound he wanted. It hurts to hear him practicing. Thanks for finding and posting this.
Before Robert Plant, I think Paul had already firmly established screaming and belting out high notes as a staple in popular rock music, under influence from Little Richard who was mostly rhythm and blues and rockandroll
well lesson be learned....age has nothing to do with Paul losing those amazing pipes he once had..it's all the screaming like this over all the years..that has made his voice so raspy, and full of cracking......his ego is just too large to admit it, ..he won't even lower the keys on these tunes either!!......I'm sure he could still write beautiful songs but he should have younger stars sing them.IMHO
Wonder if he took a year off like he did when Linda died and rest it what would happen. He's too busy raking in the bucks on the live shows, something he loves to do, watching the account balance go up
Yup. Paul was capable of running up and down the scales like an athlete in training for something. Sometimes I’ll listen to him do this and think, “Stop it Paul!! You’re going to shred your voice!” But he don’t stop! And let’s not overlook Johnny boy who had his own formidable talents. But Paul could go higher and hold the high notes. However there’s no replacing that Lennon voice...
Lyrics : Oh darling, please believe me I'll never do you no harm Believe me when I tell you I'll never do you no harm Oh darling, if you leave me I'll never make it alone Believe me when I beg you Don't ever leave me alone When you told me you didn't need me anymore Well, you know I nearly broke down and cried When you told me you didn't need me anymore Well, you know I nearly broke down and died Oh darling, if you leave me I'll never make it alone Believe me when I tell you I'll never do you no harm Believe me, darlin' When you told me, woo, you didn't need me anymore Well, you know I nearly broke down and cried When you told me you didn't need me anymore Well, you know I nearly fell down and died Oh darling, please believe me I'll never let you down Oh, believe me, darlin' Believe me when I tell you I'll never do you no harm
Hector Cheivz I too was into that sort of stuff before. In fact, the one video about "Paul McCartney's vocal range" is mine, from many years ago. But I've come to realize, that it isn't very interesting to pin point the very highest note that someone can produce with their throat. It sort of becomes a more anatomical question than a musical one. and I'm not in any way trying to be rude to you here, your comment just got me thinking! Yes, he reaches that A6, but it's *not* controlled. He does however reach very high notes frequently. I've come to find it much more interesting to go through Beatles tunes with my guitar, and find out where he was *comfortable* with his voice. In the early days, it was easily A4 and Bb4, which is amazingly high. He also had this completely wonderful timbre, in songs like yesterday and for no one, and later on Stuff like Junk. Later in the Sixties he developed these crazy falsetto skills, like in Every Night and maybe I'm amazed from his first solo album. Amazing drills and stuff! I've tried to pinpoint when he started to lose his godlike voice, but it's a depressing question really.
i'm only said that this was his highest note, i know that a vocal range isn't all in the quality of a musician, yeah Mccartney have great highs, but i don't think that your mentions (A4 Bb4) are intersting, he reachs notes one octave above, for example Bb5 in can't buy me love or C6 in London 2012, but a A4 anyone in falsetto can reach this note
In case you don't believe me, check out this video of singers singing an A5. An A5 is extremely high for a male. Does Paul's note sound an octave higher? The highest note in Phantom of the Opera for the FEMALE part is an E6. Paul is NOT singing five semitones higher than that. ua-cam.com/video/HElcXp1wEkg/v-deo.html
Possibly John would have done a good job on this tune if he'd been given the chance but it wouldn't never been up to what Paul did. Paul's range was way broader than John's. On top of that Paul's voice is much more beautiful and colorful, John himself had admited to it.
There are many sources, Including one of his interviews to Playboy's in the 70's. Another one is George Martin who said that John was always complaining that he didn't like his voice and he wanted to sound like Paul asking George to use microphone gimmics to make his voice sounds better. George was flabbergast because he didn't think that way. Mick Jagger also said a few times that he wanted to sound like Macca.
+Dogmatil Utter nonsense! Ridiculous. You know not of what you speak. Lennon was every bit in McCartney's league as a vocalist (in a different way), and he was anything but insecure about his songwriting. Where did you get that from? Remember, he and Paul started out writing together. They bounced ideas off each other, came up with something when the other was stuck for a lyric, or a middle eight, or whatever. Also, never have I heard, or read anything where George Martin claimed that Lennon asked to have his voice sound like McCartney. Absurd. I will agree that John like to use studio effects to make his voice sound different, not better, but that was part of the creative process that the group was getting into as they progressed. As for Jagger, the Stones somehow did rather well for having a singer with a bad voice. He was unique, incomparable, and his style was right for the Stones. They wouldn't have been what they were if the singer sounded like McCartney lol.
If you read the Lennon's biography, he said that: he (Lennon) had sung better (according Lennon) but the rules were the composer of the song to sing, so McCartney, who was the composer, sang the song in my opinion was extraordinarily well sung.
Anything that John said after 1967 you have to take with a pinch of salt..John grew more and more resentful the as McCartney grew stronger as a singer and songwriter.
John Lennon could never have reached the high notes on "Oh Darling" in the key it's played. John couldn't sing confortably above an A-Bb above middle C. McCartney reached a full octave above middle C, possibly more. Listen to 2:18. That's a C sharp, full voice.
Great job! Only few singers as Elvis or Little Richard can take their voice straight to the sound they want. The rest have to work hard, which is great too.
So he came down every morning for a week, to the studio, trying to get the vocal right and said, "I used to be able to do that in one take" referring to his Little Richard covers. But I guess he didn't realize that this song wasn't like a rockin' Little Richard song. It's more in the vein of "The Great Pretender"...which is not a "screamer" song.
+Moy Musouka Someone does research before posting. Thanks I knew this too and to read the bullshit everyone else posts about him being better than John ect is very annoying. They both made that band as did Ringo and George.
6:58 Eating food on the console, let alone eating in the control room was an absolute No-No! Then again, these were the lads; they could get away with that. 😉

jameyinegyptsland __I'm glad you changed your mind and realize that Paul is alive. I was having a gut reaction to your claim that he is dead. Glad you got out of the rabbit hole of PID insanity. Some of those folks are real nutters.
Pretty sure Paul has the best voice ever.
Freddie Mercury.
I am a big Beatle fan.
Paul has a good voice as well as John, Elvis, Old Blue Eyes.... They are all good. It's just a matter of taste.
Indy The Great yessss he sure does !! The best !!
Tamila Shultz Fredie is dead a long time no comparision with macca
Indy The Great he did then
Paul screamed and yelled for hours to get his voice hoarse enough to achieve the sound he wanted. It hurts to hear him practicing. Thanks for finding and posting this.
+John S I cough and choke when I sing this song in full voice like Paul does. He's just amazing.
Watch Mike Viola doing it, right here on UA-cam.
Billy is used to it.
Before Robert Plant, I think Paul had already firmly established screaming and belting out high notes as a staple in popular rock music, under influence from Little Richard who was mostly rhythm and blues and rockandroll
Little Richard before
Jon Prosise thank you for saying that
i don t know
but the chorus is impressive
I think Paul had a better singing range than plant, I've never really thought plant was that great
2:18........the power in his voice!!! amazing
McCartney shows off his vocal strength in this song as well as Long Tall Sally and Monkberry Moon Delight.
Max Cooper Monkberry Moon Delight is brilliant- one of my favourite tunes off Ram!
love monkberry moon delight
Love it too!!
Dont get left behinddddddddddddd
WAAAAAAAAAAA
MONKBERRY MOON DELIGHTTTEAAIGHTTTTT ba ba babadada
Also in Oh Woman, Oh Why. Perhaps the most amazing one of all. (Flip side to Another Day.)
Every damn second of the Beatles in the studio or on stage is priceless.
This song has way been overlooked as one of his best songs. Somebody told me he had a four octave voice. Here's to Sir McCartney.
He had 5! For example Freddie Mercury had 4, I'm still amazed by this fact..
2:18 He's singing full voice a C sharp, going for a moment to an E...That's an astonishing range.
also noticed it, incredible
Paul can reach a A in clean falsetto, a F in clean voice (hey Jude) and a G screamed full voice.
@@ML-wz3ek In Hey Jude he reaches a pretty clean Bflat4
@@ML-wz3ek Those aren't high notes. Pretty sure his range is much higher than that. Most male singers can sing an A in full voice.
It's not actually "full voice." It's a mix. It doesn't sound thin, though, which is impressive.
The single greatest male vocal performance in music history
what a voice this man had....glad we had tape recorders to capture it. It's gone now, but he's pushin' mid 70s
well lesson be learned....age has nothing to do with Paul losing those amazing pipes he once had..it's all the screaming like this over all the years..that has made his voice so raspy, and full of cracking......his ego is just too large to admit it, ..he won't even lower the keys on these tunes either!!......I'm sure he could still write beautiful songs but he should have younger stars sing them.IMHO

Sorry, your voice does tend to become diminished with age like everything else, screams or no screams...
It's obviously not the same voice 50 years after, but it is not completely gone, believe me.
Yeah McCartney can't sing really that good any more
Paul nailed this song no doubt about it, being a great singer Lennon would not have been able to make the high pitch....thanks for posting.
I'd love to hear it with Lennon singing lead.
That photo with George and the bass though... Pure coolness
Amazing seeing the lengths he went through to warm up his voice. What a dynamic man.
Best male voice ever
Okay okay i was wrong, it is HIM, I have seen enough evidence NOW, the guy is a musical genius.
Duh!
The walrus was Paul.

This song was written about Paul's thoughts on John leaving the band so it's kinda fitting that Paul should sing it
+Jack McDouglas In fact what source are you citing that John admitted his voice was not as beautiful and colorful than Paul's?
