Watching a 160 year old engine come back to life and run is a thing of beauty. Great job Jonathan!! Glad the hurricane missed you and your family. I too was worried about that. That flywheel was huge!! Can't wait to see that engine run.
Here at home In England, I was very worried ant Jonathan and his family. They say, No news Is good news but not for this old Brit. Just glad Jonathan sounds better for some time off youtube.. NO more worries for me now then.
I tip my hat to you Johnathan, I always enjoy seeing your post. You must have one of the finest collections of running steam to get oily with. Wishing you improvement for your health so you can continue to enjoy and share your craft! Cheers to you from the Cowichan Valley.
Great episode! Really enjoyed seeing that oscillating engine run. You asked "How many of these do you think are running now?" I'd say we're looking at the only one on the planet! That 14-footer is a beast! Looking forward to a first start on that!
I am very happy to see a video from you. I thought you were really busy with all the storm damage around. I am happy your family made it through OK and you are still doing what you do. Take care and the steam engines are fabulous.
Good video as usual, there was a time when I didn't know a D valve from a pine tree. Now you have shown me I know what you are talking about. Watch those little health issues and don't let them become big ones. Best wishes from Australia
hi jonathan its nice to see you again id taken it that you have been working a lot and had no time to make films im glad you and your family are all safe and hope that all familys that got cort out by that storm im only just catching up how things are affecting youall looks like you have a big job to get back to normal stay safe from us over the pond
Thank you for taking the time to save our history. I hope that someone in the younger generation can become as passionate about it as you are and can continue your good work.
Mr. J. You've come a long way, knowledge on these steam engines since you started the videos on them is just amazing. Do miss the NASCAR speed on the road!
It's always amazing that you have a love for making those historic engines live again . I hope your son carries your legacy on. My son is throwing away the stuff I wanted to make run and like new again. He says I will never be able to work on it and it needs to go. I started my UA-cam channel on how to repair stuff so others could learn from my knowledge but my stroke took it all away and my son don't care .
Hey Jonathan another nice video my wife's talking about going up to North Carolina soon play I can get over there and say hello to you again will you have a nice day my friend can't wait to see the other new ones
Congrats Jonanthan!! after years of hard work and dedication you got it resurrected. We have missed your video postings but I know recent hurricanes interfered.
Johnathan glad you made it thru the storms man some of the folks up in Appalachia could use your steam engine generators hey they certainly have the fire wood 💡
I am amazed at what you can accomplish. I hope all that are helping you are learning the fading and lost arts that you possess. I wish that I were closer by to learn from you. I am 60 years old, not in good health and still am inspired by you. May you, your family and all that know you be blessed. 👍👍👍
So glad to have you back! Also happy that you weren't close enough to the storm to have any damage. I know it goes without saying but take care of yourself.
Jonathan, thanks for the update! It is amazing to see these old steam engines come to life. Glad you didn't have storm damage. Looking forward to eh next steam video!
Love it, Jonathan thank you for recovering these beautiful engines. I still have my dad's 1916 10hp fairbanks he restored 30+years ago you always kee0 me inspired!!! Thank you
That's a big fly wheel have been watching your channel from your first ones I know your real busy with all those engines never fail to learn something from your videos I check every other day to make sure I haven't missed one I know real busy and a it's a labor of love for you not grappling just miss your videos glad y'all are safe but I know you are close to FORT BRAGG so wasn't to worried to bad have family that live west of you that have lots of damage well hang in there health issues no joke am 65 when I turn 55 started falling apart so praying you get better
🗿💨 something very stimulating in watching them old engines run, old tech that rings true, Awesome collection Johnathan, nice job, all around. Thanks for sharing 🧲👍
Johnathan, I've been using castor oil as a topical on my neck and knee. Reports regular use on calcium deposits cause's em to shrink. Just thought I'd mention it..
Glad you all got through the storms, we did too, but not the folks all around us. Get well, oddly, I also have a weird heel issue. No fun at all. And once again, amazed at the stuff you know how to do.
That’s a really cool machine. I can’t wait to see it going. it really makes you wonder who touched these machines who used them and what they used them for. The machines actually sound like they’re breathing when they’re running.
G’day from Brisbane Queensland Australia, wow love you work 160 year old engine saved for another 100 plus years. When I worked at Eveleigh Locomotive Workshops in Sydney there was old machines that were originally belt driven off similar steam machines much like yours. But had been converted to electric power. And it reminds me of an old fella that was called Emu. Who Wass a gasket and canvas belt maker tradesman. The last in Australia and that was almost 48 years ago and was highly skilled in both. Make any type of gasket cork, steel copper all by hand or any canvas and in some cases vulcanised rubber belts. Such skill that would more than likely helped you with the repairs and then there were old boilermakers and steam fitters that knew more about steam and associated equipment and could diagnose and repair blind folded. Anyway I’m waffling on and will just say look up Eveleigh Railways Workshops Redfern Sydney and you will see some nice old photos. Anyway all the best love your videos and again love you work.👀👏👍😊
Wow good to see another video, thanks, you said your not good at brick laying but your 100% better than I’d do, nice progress on the engines. I really enjoy watching anything your working on their is always something to learn.
It’s great to see you back ,Jonathan.. I was worried about you and your family with all the storms that were in the areas sure hope you didn’t have any damage ..great work on the engine…
Thanks for the update! Oscillating engine: Take 2 pipe sections that nearly slip fit, bore one smooth and hone, turn down the other for a good fit, add a couple grooves for seals (oring or Teflon). Thread the side going to the engine, hard mount the other so it aligns nicely with the bore so it can’t blow out under pressure and pipe off to your exhaust. Alternatively bore the exhaust port and use a pipe turned, grooved, sealed to fit. Grease cup to lube it now & again, but most likely the oil in the exhaust will keep it lubed.
So many people lack your level of understanding and reject perfectly useable components when they work on a piece of machinery. It was so gratifying to see your "Civil War era" engine running so well having only had the bare minimum of work done, anthough there was a great deal of that. Most people would have passed it by. Exactly the same observations apply to your oscillating engine. Just brilliant, restrained, workmanship.
Good to see you my friend and or course it's great to see the engines running. I'm wondering now how many engine will be enough ??? Another five or six or should that be five or six dozens Hahaha!! Keep well and take care of that foot. All the best. Mike in Boston UK.
It’s impossible to imagine what seeing such technology was like in the 1860’s. That’s pure raw energy ready to be harnessed. Thank you for saving and showing a slice of our mutual American history.
While it is beyond d description to see you posting videos again, it was almost beyond hoping that you came through that storm. You mostly have your health AND a new grandson !! Congratulations all around !!
Always enjoyed your old auto restos but the steam engine setup is something else. Either way it's a lot of work. Have rebuilt a few old cars myself. It's a satisfying thing when you get them back running and on the road again. Take care out there.
I was just telling my wife that I haven’t seen a video from my favorite channel lately, I was hoping all is well with you guys after the hurricane. My son was down near Asheville with FEMA helping after the storm
Thought I was going to have to send the Navy after you...was starting to go through J.W withdrawal 🤔🤦😂
Praying for your health and family 😊
Great to see you back, was a bit worried about you and that weather you had in your part of the world.
Their is nothing.that you can't do ,very inspiring for the rest of us to try to do our best with our projects. Thank you.keep the videos coming.
Less worried now that you are back and working around some health issues. Yet staying positive and delivering some working oldies. Top notch.

Great to see you back!! But i knew if you were ok you would be out towing and helping folks!!! God bless you
And I was going you look you up last night to see if I've missed your posting snd videos. Thanks!

Could we get a tour of all your steam engines. Car wrecks 😮 and all the great cars you have redone. Also your shop. 😊
Johnathan glad you made it thru the storms man some of the folks up in Appalachia could use your steam engine generators hey they certainly have the fire wood 💡
I live just south of Asheville, although we didn't get slammed as bad ..I thought the same thing using the " hit and miss" units 👍
Glad to hear those storms missed you & yours

Great update, bringing steam power history back to life!! Yes, British engineering is very odd at times.
I was binge watching your videos last night!
🗿💨 Cool,, are the 58 herald drag car vids there? Johnathan is a tough act to follow 🧲👍
I could go to sleep just listening to the sound it makes.
