George Campbell Pure Destroyers have always been lighter armored than capital ships, because of their role within the fleet. That is by design, and every naval power worldwide understands the reasoning behind it. At this time, the Arleigh Burke class is the pinnacle of destroyer evolution; firepower, speed, and ability to protect the capital and support ships of the task force it defends. The British and Japanese can always make a legitimate argument about that due to their well designed DDs, but nothing else comes close when technology is also factored in. My opinion, of course.
Lol the premise of this fictional exchange is such an indication of the sense of self importance Americans have. Pretentious to think China would be directing the announcement at the US expecting a comment in response. It’s like when someone is talking they must be talking to you, who else could they possibly be addressing? Plus they care so much about what you think, a disinterested response is clearly something they’re going lose so much face over. More like they’re addressing Chinese nationals and their allies and wondering why you’re hanging around talking to yourself
