as a BIW worker, we may be opposing yards, we both do an incredible amount of work to help build the defense of our nation.
I currently work at Ingalls, it's a fun job and I love knowing I have a hand in building ships for the Navy

@@myafoster5618 they give you a heart rate monitor to have strapped against your sternum. They then have you do a plank for about a minute then have you lift an assortment of weights to your chest and above your head. Then they have you wear a weighted backpack and have you climb up halfway up a set of stairs 11 times. And finally you climb up a ladder to the 3rd or 4th rung 6 times

Three of the four ships I served on were built here. One Forrest Sherman class destroyer and two Spruance class destroyers, one of which I am a plankower of.

Legalized thieves. This company should have to give one cost and stay with that cost instead it changes every couple of YEARS. It's natural for there to be cost overruns . That's why those thieves are in business. This company needs to be held in accountability.
Ron, could you give some specific examples of which contracts and amounts they have overran. It's my understanding that their contracts are fixed price contracts unlike the nuclear large deck ships and submarines which have traditionally been cost plus. Even on fixed price contract there may be some changes when the length is 3 to 5 years to build and materials cost has a drastic change. They try to estimate these variances into the contract bids but there currently is no way to accurately KNOW the future. You also have customer upgrades and changes that happen after construction has begun. To "give one cost and stay with it" all of the supplier base (hundreds of them from all areas of manufacturing) and the customer would all have to agree to no cost changes on materials and no upgrades or design changes. Not sure how that makes them thieves. They are a business just like any other business. If they don't make a profit they close down. If the cost to provide the product goes up, and the customer requests changes that increase the cost of the product, then the price will have to go up accordingly.
@@sandy8367 thanks for stating the obvious. I’m a designer and what lil’ Ronlee said as you explained is usually due to vendor cost / material cost / inflation / various design upgrades / etc… not Ingalls or other honest and reputable shipbuilder’s price gouging. He probably watched a second rate news organization talk about military contractors and decided to be what I like to call a “keyboard hero”.
