    I have had my 90 TDi A2 for 10 years. It was remapped by Stealth back then and is putting out just shy of 120bhp and a huge lift in torque. The car is amazing, it pulls like a train and the mid range is fantastic. It's always fun when something a lot more powerful starts to push you on a motorway, just wait for a gap, plant the throttle and watch them slip back. Of course they will get you in the end but come on, this is a 1.4 three cylinder. The thing is, it does it with such gusto even after 10 years it's still a delight to drive. Economy has suffered a little but it's still into the 50's per gallon. I have had absolutely NO issues with the car during this time so if you want to set your A2 free I suggest visiting Stealth - you won't regret it.

    iv got 4 of these.. in various states of tune and one with a pd150 engine in it...
    get some audi pepperpots on them your taking 23 kilos off the unsprung mass and its noticeable, also take the rear seats out if you dont use them... their like 34 kilos and only take 2 seconds to take out.. those two modifications will greatly enhance your driving pleasure in a way you will notice..
    want to go further too replace the battery for a slimline one saving 12 kilos and remove the rear bumper support bar is 19 kilos. the last one might be extreme to some but fine with me.
    lastly the best modification i have done is to fit a ptw 6 speed box from a mk7 golf 1.6bluemotion.. transforms the a2 into a refined motorway cruiser.. think 80mph at 2000rpms... the box costs 500 though... 4 times as much as what i payed for the car.
    egr delete kit also helps with the roll on performance and reduces lag on the tdi75. i have to say a mapped tdi90 gives you a lovely torque shove from 1600rpms and up.. feels totaly different to a tdi75.

    Great work again from Vince, though as expected with his vast experience within the world of VAG products and the A2. Thanks for plugging the forum Andrew, appreciated. Similar figures to my former TDI as I recall. Enjoy the unleashed power of the '3-pot derv'. All the best.

      Your forum doesn't need plugging, it's an integral part of owning an A2 by all accounts! So nice to visit a motor trade business like Stealth that's 100% b***s*** free. It's like a breath of fresh air, depending where you stand when the dyno run is active of course ;)

    Great to see some decent gains on this little engine. I recently had my S3 remapped by a company called R-Tech and the results are amazing. Having 5 switchable maps available at the press of the pedal is a great feature, although I only use the 5th map for full power.

      Thanks Pedro! I was lucky to be offered this car by Audi UK. The condition is 100% down to their careful ownership as it's been theirs since around 2006, initially as a chauffeur car for collecting VIPs and in the last few years on their heritage fleet, available for members of the media to borrow. As a result this particular A2 turns up a lot on Google! www.google.com/search?q=audi+a2&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjmhZfCsKnhAhVPXhoKHY8CDe4Q_AUIDigB&biw=1229&bih=578

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  5 років тому +2

      @@volkswizard So it's a nice low mileage example, and it's a 1.4 TDI ( a 1.9 TDI block and head with one cylinder lopped off) so it'll go on forever. Plus the fuel economy is great and if your tune is that good then you'll have a very fun little pocket rocket. Cherish it! There aren't that many in good condition, and they're such well made little cars with a dedicated fanbase.

    I had my A2 1.4 TDI 75 mapped by Vince a few years ago and was also very very pleased. It totally transformed the driving experience. Funnily enough, I came across this channel because I now have a Skoda Citigo (so was watching for Up! content). After watching this video of Stealth Racing, it reminded me of the improvement, so I am going to get my CHYA 1.0 59 bhp engine mapped (hopefully to around 85 bhp with more torque). It might well be the least powerful car that Stealth has mapped 🤓. Sandwiched in the middle of these two cars, I had a 320 bhp BMW M135i, so a little different in terms of power. The other two cars were/are still fun to drive though.......based mainly on handling and feedback. Also, I am no longer bankrupt at the end of each month.

      I recently bought one to stop using my B7 turbo for my commute and it's really adept at a 70-mile round trip five days a week. 75hp isn't electrifying, but the 3-pot warble keeps it interesting and it can move along at a fair lick on a b-road because there's surprisingly good mechanical grip and momentum.

    UPDATE PLEASE! Having lived with the re-map for a while what are your thoughts? Performance & economy before & after? A2 is that rare beast that's built up to a standard rather than down to a price and hit bottom value wise before they start to be appreciated. Re-map would be key upgrade, do you know of potential suspension upgrades? Think rally rather than circuit: it would see plenty of action on rough roads in West of Ireland which VAG stuff doesn't do well, need properly supple setup.

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  5 років тому +3

      Hi, the car has just been sold but I loved every minute of the remap, didn't affect mpg much at all, it can actually improve it unless you drive it hard using all the extra performance all the time. Before it was terrible, really, almost dangerous slow. Now it's better than adequate and can keep up with typical outside lane driving speeds on a UK motorway no problem. Only handicap is the gearing which is a bit short so above 80 mph (I'd estimate) it's not very relaxing. Easily got over 400 miles from a tank with a lot of urban driving which isn't ideal for economy, steady 50-65 and it would go much higher I think but I never drive like that! Rattles at idle but once you get going it's perfectly fine. Wish it had start-stop though!

    • @seansverige
      @seansverige 5 років тому

      @@volkswizard Thanks for the swift response. Chimes with what I'd expect, if you don't rag it extra power means it's not working as hard. Don't do too much m'way and tend to top out at 80 for a quiet life anyway. Any forums, sites to check out suspension possibilities? Lost a sump in a VW on a road I know - hell, on a _bump_ I know - at a speed that *was* perfectly sensible (& legal) in my Modus.

    Hi, regarding remap, what are your thoughts of a mild remapping the Up GTI, It this something you would recommend?

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  5 років тому +3

      This won't make me popular with tuners but this is my opinion which you have asked for. I feel the Up! GTI already feels like a remapped car in that the chassis can barely cope with 115 PS & 200 nm of torque, particularly in wet so a remap mild or otherwise would be pushing it well beyond its comfort zone. The traction control is already hyperactive and clumsy in the way it deals with slip, adding more will only make it worse. And then there are the tyres. Even if you fit the best non-eco tryes, with a remap I can't see them coping any better than the stock tyres with the stock map (i.e. badly). Then there are warranty issues which VW have lost any sense of humour about and will do anything to reject these days (I know from experience). If you want a faster car, buy a 6C Polo GTI. I still love the standard Up! GTI package, well apart from the useless WLTP helping tyres, changing those should be the first place to put £400.

Someone has dropped off a brand new 1.4 tdi at the technical school I work at and I am having a hard time finding what year it is and any kind of wiring schematic. I was hoping I could salvage a harness out of a 1.9 or 2.0 tdi. Its not a common rail and it does not have an injection pump hanging off the timing cover like the early tdi. The head does have a round multi pin connector in it with four pins used. I was planning on swapping it into something but have had a horrible time finding info on it here in the sates.

      100% spot on, driven daily, just done nearly 100 miles per £10 over the course of a tank full and a lot of that is urban or fast motorway so would do even better of I tried. The performance is just enough to be fun, it's how the car should have been from new. They'd have sold a lot more if it was!

    I don't trust the dyno results. Putting out more than standard when not remapped? More like the dyno is over reading to make remaps look better?

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  5 років тому

      Jim, all cars are different as they are mass produced so will vary. TDI PD diesels have always put out more than standard, in fact most cars do because customers won't complain about a bit too much power but can reject cars if they are under. The actual point of the video isn't to assess what the car came with as standard nor really what it ended up with but to look at the difference between the two. The numbers are actually academic though, the improvement in the driving experience is what really matters and the numbers if anything under play this (having driven it for a week now I can see it's even better than I thought at the time).

    • @volkswizard

      Cars all vary as they are mass produced. Rather than risk some being under power, Audi make sure all are a minimum of the advertised power (in this case 75 PS) and some (probably most) will be higher to some degree. Bear in mind also that dynos vary from place so 82 PS there may be 75 PS elsewhere. It's the gain that's the important number and the way it drives is even more important :)

      More likely its an inaccuracy with the estimated engine power from the rolling road. This is the same with all rolling roads but as volkswizard says its the improvement which is the more relevant part.

    I’ve always thought about the Audi A2 as an ugly city car that doesn’t reflect the character of Audi. Back in the days, was a must for every car manufacturer to build a new car that was basically a little minivan. Luckily it was replaced with the Audi A1, more sporty and aggressive, like every Audi should be.

    • @soupracoon2527
      @soupracoon2527 5 років тому +1

      You must not know about how much of a technological feat it is, Audi were thought of more as an intelligent car company back then, instead of being like BMW or Mercedes.

    • @aian9597
      @aian9597 5 років тому

      Yes, I know all the technology inside that little car, the most unique one is that you can check the fluids inside the engine without open the hood. Also, it is made all of aluminum and that is an innovative way to reduce weight even nowadays. But I must admit, this car is ugly and is not fun to drive. That’s basically why it didn’t sell well. Audi was too ahead of time for us back in the days.

    • @andylewis7360
      @andylewis7360 5 років тому

      @@aian9597 Actually, my TDi90 is great fun to drive. All the weight's low down so it handles well. Not quite as comfortable as the Jag 2.7 S-type it replaced but it's a lot more fun and actually the back seat's the same size. The engine's half the size, it weighs half as much and returns double the milage. Only downside really is engine and road noise and it's crashy over humps on the low-profile tyres. Ya may think it's ugly but hey. it's super slippery. BMW looked to the A2 for inspiration when they designed the i3 so there's that. 145,000 miles down. Another 150,000 to go! :-D
