In Melbourne Australia, they flower 6 months, not 3 weeks. Spectacular 😊
Good to know!
White oleander are my favorite. I absolutely love the tree version too.
Very hearty type, I like them tree formed.
A very common plant here in spain. Never heard of anyone suffering with their toxicity. They grow all along the motorways and i have loads in my garden. Flower for months. Very little water needed. Very popular and beautiful.
Super cool to learn, thanks!
Just had a staff member get sent the hospital with life threatening reaction to it
@Brian Trudeau she didn't eat it. All she done was snap off an over hanging branch
They are extremely toxic. In french Oleander means "Horse Killer"
Every part of those plant is poisonous. People have even been affected by flower smell, not a plant to have with pets, children.
I love oleander.Wish l had all the colors.Thx for the tips on planting.
Me too! I had a row of them along my back fence at one point, white and pink alternating. Hope you sub to the channel.
I paid my neighbor to remove his oleander that was growing over our fence. I trimmed it back and cleaned up its debris for years before I'd simply had enough.
Yes, exactly, eventually it gets old.
There is a peach color, pink, red and white. They bloom all summer in California.
Excellent, hope you sub! Check this out: ua-cam.com/video/9VqepYRK5iM/v-deo.html
Beautiful flowers
Oleanders only flower for a few weeks in FL? They flower for months here in CA - could it be that they can better tolerate semi-arid climates?
Yes, just a few weeks. I think they slow down in Cali, in FL everything is so turbo charged with rain it seems to speed up plant cycles, at least that is what I have noticed. Whenever I go to Cali, I am amazed how slow stuff grows.
@@EatYourBackyard That makes sense. We have them in neighborhoods and along highway mediums - they’re full of blossoms during the spring/summer but seem to go dormant when it gets cold and rains in the winter. I’ve noticed that native plants grow relatively fast here, but imported ones do grow slow as you’ve noticed. Great videos, thanks!
these things bloom almost year round in Arizona
Wow, that is so cool, thanks. I never heard of that, enjoy learning it.
I bought some 4 months back, red and pink, they are still flowering as well here in Texas, I will be planting em soon.
I have a giant pink oleander bush in my front yard, I was lucky enough for them to be in full bloom from April until now, which is mid December, but they are now slowly starting to go dormant
The flowers are thick and look great for a month or so.
Another story was they used the limbs as skewers and yeah they all got sick and died.
Wow, that is a great version. Cool to see how the story grows.
@@EatYourBackyard www.cbsnews.com/news/common-garden-plant-killed-boys/
Every part of Oleanders are poisonous, people have died, dogs mostly, they cause rashes, even the smell of flowers can affect some people an you should never burn them. I used to poison them for local council.
Very useful info, thanks.
thanks!!
Have them all because they are beautiful additives to your garden but I move ours into the garden room for the winter and often they will still continue to flower.

A deadly wedding dress
I was in a heavy metal band in college call "Deadly Wedding Dress", we covered polka music. This is officially my favorite comment of the day, thanks Xavier!
NO way they were planted at the same time. I have had red and white in my back yard in Phoenix and they are watered the same and grow the same. for twenty years!
Damn now you got me thinking i should throw mine out haha its small (in a pot on my back porch) and not that nice looking... not to mention that my cat and dog are always out back near it
Well, not good to chew on. I try to have 100% non Poisonous plants in my life, but hey, haven't achieved it personally.
Get rid of it dogs have died from them & get rashes, every part is poisonous.
I am in Canada .. I have 2 trees blooming so nice and a lot ...I think I am lucky ..I am worry so much ...i can get sick ...my kids grown up and no pets after i lost one
Sorry to hear that
Do you think that the pink is a mere hybrid Oleander between white and read
Honestly, no idea, although I have notices the size thing in FL.
what kind of fertilizer do you recommend?
I recommend amzn.to/3aWpLvu I just ordered some, all the micronutrients
Yes, it is very toxic if ingested raw, but some people in Turkey drink it the tea for cancer after boiling the tea for 8 hours and the dosage is only taken gradually one tsp till you reach 3 tsp a day. It is very bitter .
Wow, that is fascinating, I did not know that!
I read in a book that the sap can be used to treat herpes lesions.
Photogenic
Yes, surely
Oleanders Are Nice. But Very Poisonous.
What do you mean about “Woody looking “? Like how?
The exposed branches, rather than thick foliage. More wood showing, woody. :)
EatYourBackyard thanks for letting me know . I’m gonna plant some in my front yard for privacy . ☺️
Pronounced Oh-lee-an-der. There are literally DOZENS of varieties of Oleanders with many different variations. I would say the hotdog story may be partly true. Smoke inhalation leading to cardiac arrest? Maybe. Eating the hotdogs? Not likely.
Yikes! Smoked hot dogs from a mispronounced plant. I hope you will come join my live premiere, at 7PM tonight (Friday), of the first track on my new album Viking Love Songs. Also, please subscribe to My Music Channel Jedi Jingle Maker if ya like it. ua-cam.com/video/Gp0KTDGmB_0/v-deo.html
Lol YES! O not OR😂
A friend that moved asked me to adopt his white oleander(in a pot). He gave it to me when it was maybe 2 ft tall but scrawny. I thanked him and could not believe how quickly it grew! It was doubled in about 2 months and then was at least 7 ft soon after but again was still scrawny. I decided to cut it and try to prop the part I cut off. NO GO. BUT the mom has all kinds of babies so now I have a short bush. I never saw a red oleander and decided to buy one from the nursery. You descriptions seems very accurate on the different kinds. I still do not have a pink one. Any suggestions as to what poisonous plants to plant near it. Now that I think about it, I usually do not see other types of plants with them. Enjoyed your video.
I think they are beautiful shrubs, when they flower it is a color explosion! I would plant dwarf scheffalera around it.
Feed me, Seymour!!!
I came across the hot dog story and the word was it isn't true. The smoke from the fire probably wasn't safe though.
hehe, another Keys Campground Myth, they are really adding up. :)
every part of Oleanders is poisonous, even the flower smell can affect some people, also can give you rashes, sap also, and burning it is a big no no, dogs have died from chewing it, and there has been a couple of deaths in dogs & people, so not a plant to take lightly, but one to consider If you have pets, children that love chewing or touching plants.
Is anyone else tired of hearing “don’t forget to subscribe, like the video?”
Yes!
Check out my music channel and subscribe, heh. ua-cam.com/video/nBPTqm7wQec/v-deo.html
That's a pink oleander (probably a dwarf ) not a red. I have the red and they are red red. Like a rose. I'm hoping they don't grow as slow as that. But there are plenty of pink in town growing just a gigantic right along side the white
okay, it is pink! Please join me on the LIVE CHAT PREMIERE of my newest song "One Thousand Million". If you listen to it, flowers will grow out of your ears and your eyes will shine rainbows. At least, that's my prediction. It contains the wise words of Alan Watts and my guitar and musical composition. ua-cam.com/video/rgGOuhACPew/v-deo.html
need a liscence to prune-compost/dump?........does everyone downwind during a fire just drop dead?
Good question, never thought of that. Seems like a legit question.
@@EatYourBackyard they should have warnings and ailments to look for in homeless sleeping in them, kids playing transporting sap accidently to other people -bike handlebars etc
I have cuttings in water for 3 weeks. Nothing
o-leander
true, my speech impediment acting up again.
Oleander only has one r, at the end.
oops
Poisonous
Yep. Don't forget to check out and sub to my Original Music Channel called JediJingleMaker where I post a new song each weekend. If you love music, you are going to love JediJingleMaker! ua-cam.com/video/P4k0Rt_lbhQ/v-deo.html
I’m curious, as to why you refer to them as “OR-Leander’s”... I am pretty sure, that there is NO
letter “r” that is placed before the letter “l”... Please don’t misconstrue, my question, as weird or “Chicken-Shi-ty”... And for you haters out there, I don’t care what you think of me, so don’t waste your illiterate pontification!!! All I’m guilty of, is to ask an honest question!
It is, indeed, a nice video! And it really doesn’t matter how you articulate your version of the name... I was just curious, to hear, why you put the “OR” phonetic sound, before the “L”?
I think I was just mispronouncing it, didn't even notice, hehe
u dont know jack
So true
I just read that it not poisonous
I read some things about people having various uses for it, however I sure wouldn't ingest it.
I read that you can rub it on herpes lesion.
I wish I coul use the dry elowers in soap. They smell real nice
Every part of those plants are poisonous, I used to eradicate them for local council here in oz.
How you spell it "oleander" and pronounce it "orleander" is beyond me.
Hehe, I also call chickens C Monsters. I now do call it oleander, Sometimes I just call it a poisonous shrub.
Every part of those plants is poisonous, not one to have with children, pets and burning is a big no no.
None of these, they are all super poisonous, dogs are allergic to the touch of the leaves………and there is yellow as well. Do not touch any of them…..
you are mispronouncing the name of the plant
Yes, I am trying to stop doing that, hehe
But it does make for a fun drinking game
It is not poisonous! Do more research!
Michael Denny Sorry, but every part of the oleander is poisonous. I am guessing you are referring to some attempts to use some of its compounds as medicine. Here is a link that explains that information: www.cancer.org/treatment/treatmentsandsideeffects/complementaryandalternativemedicine/herbsvitaminsandminerals/oleander-leaf
Please don’t ingest!!!!!!
I agree, the vid maker should do more research. These flowers are really miracle cures.
@@pikolovesolivia3693 they are miracle cures but they are also poisonous if they are interested raw. ( Please forgive me if I'm wrong)
Uh, I think I will play it safe, not looking to widen my perspective to include Oleander Tea.
