This song was a one take demo he did when he was drunk. He went to eAeon's house and did the vocals and then eAeon did the production work. I have tried to refrain from saying Change is my favorite on the album, but what eAeon did to give the song texture and color and match the emotion of the lyrics just makes me love it so much. Change Pt. 1 is really good (with Wale) but as many said it sounds so different. I think you would enjoy two lyricists again taking a concept and implmenting lots of wordplay and imagery. Also, this is RM's 3rd connection with eAeon (first was on RM's Mono mixtape on a track called Badbye, then RM featured on eAeon's song Don't).
Change is top tier on yeh album, it’s hard because every song stands out but this one is the exact style I love and never expected anyone from BTS to do. So I won’t say it’s the best because Wildflower and others are artistically above it but this surprised me the most.
Thank you! I love that you really get it! It excites me to no end that someone at his level in the music industry is disregarding mainstream trends to this extent and experimenting with something so avant garde.. I simply love it. The jarring beat and tempo changes, the instrumentation, detuned chromatic scales, dissonant meandering.. Isn't that exactly how we feel about change in our lives? Thrown off the expected path, trying to adjust to the new situation before being hit with another curve ball? Nothing is predictable and we feel like holding on to the one strand of normalcy remaining, but sometimes you can't even count on that.. This song captures those feelings so well sonically.. Seriously, eAeon did a fantastic job of producing. I've seen people who don't know what to make of this song coz it's too different, but I can see how thoughtfully each choice was made. There is a method to the madness here.. And RM really leaves no stone unturned.. He creates meaning on so many different levels, I swear I could write a dissertation using his lyricism as literature.. Its so thrilling to see artists spread their wings like this.. BTW, Change pt 1 is an amazing track featuring Wale. You should really check it out! Great lyricism! It's nothing like Change pt 2 though hehe..
Change Pt.1 should be a classic. It is fire song he wrote with Wale in 2017. Completely different song but same cool indie feel. Would love to hear your take on it when you get a chance.
Another of my favs. Man you got such a good ear...of course, being a rap artist and musician yourself. Can't wait to hear your reaction to Change by RM, Wale, and PDogg. Such a well-crafted song. Nothing like this one, more jazz hip hop banger, but just beautiful. In that song, change is talked about in the lyrics, not represented in the music like in this one. Change should have been a big hit it's sad.
RM said he was very drunk when he recorded (without a beat) this song... And I kinda understand why English, expressing painful emotions in languages that are not your mother tongue is easier bc it provides you emotional distance, this kinda makes the song a little more relatable for me lmao Also when the tracklist was revealed before the album dropped, I was so excited bc RM have another song called Change featuring Wale released in 2017 and is really good, very politically engaged, it showcase problems of both Eastern and Western cultures so I thought Change pt2 would follow a similar path but nothing prepared me for this, never in a million of years I would have guessed this sound and style, I love the beat switches.
I think with Change, having the music change up so many times, just goes with what he's trying to say. He also said that this album is all the things he wanted to do. This is a documentation of his youth, the last archive of his 20's. basically his journal/feelings, all put into these songs with his lyrics/poetry. RM started out ast a poet in his teens, before embracing hip hop/rap, and decided to dedicate his life to music. Change part 1 is a collaboration he did with Wale. I can link that for you. No subtitles needed. RM X Wale - Change - ua-cam.com/video/9rAyprZdo7o/v-deo.html
Change pt 2 took me a second but... wow. It means like SOOOO much. Avant garde was a great term 👍 this shit is weird and I love it. It gets better with each listen and the more you learn about it.
Change (Pt 1) Is an important song for the time it was released. It will never be not important, but it tells a lot about the time when it was released. Darn gods I love that song.
Your comments on the song actually made me reminisce and realize this song reminds me so much of his first mixtape titled “RM”. Just the vibes and the ‘unpolished’-ness of it and it’s so good.
His interview with Pharrell is so great cause it really gets into their brains and how they think as artists, I don’t know if you’ve reacted to it yet but if you have the chance I think you would love it !
RM CHANGE with WALE!!! Check it out. It came out in 2017. All English. It is so relevant even now. Timeless. This is the song you play coming to election day.
First time I heard this I was just a bit confused😆. But after a couple of listens I leapt up my list to one of my favourites on the album. I love the off-kilter sound.
With bts /rm when it comes to music video or music or lyrics or anything… everything they do has a meaning and a purpose… nothings ever lazy or just there for no reason…. Everything is put in for a reason … sometimes its just mind blowing actually 😅 Btw change pt 1 is 🔥
since you mentioned Black Skinhead by Kanye, BTS once did a concept trailer based on his song - basically they performed a cool hiphop style dance choreography over RM rapping his own rendition of Black Skinhead. You should react to it, just search "BTS concept trailer", the video is posted by the channel 1theK. Very old video of theirs, like 2013. They also filmed a "dance practice video" for that performance, you can see the choreography more clearly. During their training years, RM + Suga + Jin did their own rendition of Swimming Pools by Kendrick Lamar. Their version is called School of Tears. Search a version that has english subtitles, as the original video doesn't have english subtitles. They did a lot of cover projects during their training years. If you want to see a really old video of a very young RM making a beat and doing a freestyle rap introducing their old studio, search "Let's Introduce BANGTAN ROOM" posted by the channel Old Peppy Grace, her video has english subtitles. BTS also did a cool dance choreography performance to Spazz by Krizz Kaliko and Rollin' by Limp Bizkit. Search "BTS intro performance trailer", posted 7 years ago. RM does a lot of songs that sound unconventional and experimental, not mainstream sounding. His recent collab with an alternative hiphop group Balming Tiger is one example, the song is called Sexy Nukim. Many years ago he collab-ed with Warren G on a song called P.D.D, very old-school hiphop sounding. And RM also collab-ed on a song called Buckubucku by an OG k-hiphop group MFBTY, that has rapper Tiger JK who is considered a pioneer and very influential in shaping korean hiphop. BTS songs I recommend for hardcore hiphop fans - Born Singer and Hip Hop Lover. Born Singer is their own rendition of Born Sinner by J. Cole, they sample the beat. And Hip Hop Lover is their homage to hiphop, they name a lot of their inspirations, including a lot of old-school ones like KRS-One, Rakim, Gang Starr, etc. I also highly recommend watching the guide video called " A Guide to BTS Members" by the channel Taylor, it introduces each individual member of BTS. Includes their backgrounds and solo work. It tells how RM and Suga went from underground rappers to joining BTS.
@@Jurnalist_ no problem, BTS has a LOT of hiphop content, I only mentioned like a tiny amount of it lol. Not sure which video you want the link for? UA-cam often blocks comments that give links, so I don't know if this will go thru but I'll try linking you - BTS concept trailer (dance cover of RM's rendition of Black Skinhead): ua-cam.com/video/q87bQS0ITWc/v-deo.html The dance practice video for that Black Skinhead cover concept trailer: ua-cam.com/video/m7QNUWXoO_s/v-deo.html RM + Suga + Jin rendition of Swimming Pool by Kendrick called School of Tears: ua-cam.com/video/fKZ1PPDa9M0/v-deo.html 18 year old RM making a beat and doing a freestyle rap about their old studio room: ua-cam.com/video/hLtvyej_hJk/v-deo.html I think the rest of the videos I recommended you can find pretty easily. Just fyi, BTS even went to LA many years ago and were personally tutored by hiphop artists like Coolio, Warren G, Tony Jones, etc. They filmed a show about that experience, it's called American Hustle Life. I also recommend reacting to the docu-series Rise of Bangtan, it covers BTS's history in depth in chronological order starting from their training years before they debuted their 1st album. The series shows a lot of their hiphop work and content. Also shows a lot of their vlogs and behind the scenes stuff. Also gives you a lot of good info about the korean music industry in general, like their trainee system. The series is fan-made by a professional editor, it's so well edited that it looks like it could be a Netflix series. Start from chapter 1, there's deleted scenes for each chapter too.
@@janetuss6496 Ty very much you have linked the black skinhead dance video I was trying to find and also gave me a good series on BTS to watch Ty for your help. I truly appreciate it.
change pt.1 has nothing to do with this song, rm said he just wanted to call this song change too but since he already has a song called the same thing, he indicated that with pt.2 for this one. his first song called change has wale on it, it's great.
I'm embarrassed to say I didn't realise this song is in english. I should've suspected something when I magically understood everything he was saying 🤔
I'm here after a year to assure you that you're not alone 😂 listened this album 10 times a day after it came out but I realized that this song is in english after 2 days😂
This song is in no way way related to Change Pt. 1 ft. Wale. Which by the way is an excellent track which addressed politically relevant issues. It is just as relevant today as it was back then. As for this song, Change Pt . 2 , really pay attention to the lyrics. What do you think he is addressing? Not who but what? What entity? What entity did he or they(BTS) look at a certain way and then once they actually came across or started interacting with they started finding out the real truth. And....then REALITY and things started to CHANGE. Just my personal opinion but I think this song, low key, is a dis-track at that entire entity as a whole. I believe the production itself is expressing his emotional journey(ups and downs) and final realization and acceptance of how things really are.
Now you're being big brained, and that's exactly what we need haha. BTS does a lot of context painting, and I always thought it came from RM. He makes the music on a few dimensions to represent a certain concept and sometimes it just blows my mind. If you react to Pied Piper or 134340 by bts, I'm sure you will enjoy it a lot in that sense. But I am not a musician, so I love reactions where people start picking up on it, i learn a lot. Fun fact, this is the demo - he recorded it drunk and it made the final take. The producer is Aeon, an indie artist he is very close friends with - but also someone who he looked up to a lot when he was just starting out music, Korean indie music big name?
Can we stop the "he recorded it drunk" trope? It sounds as "he didn't know what he was doing". Don't take his words and spread some sort of misinformation. He said the take that got the final go in the recording was one he did a bit tipsy, that's all. The song is fire. He named it pt 2, because he has another song named Change (with Wale) so he didn't want them to get confused online/streaming services. But the songs aren't related at all ^^ He's sung it twice so far, perfectly sober and sounds splendid. PS. Army comes in different shapes and genres lol, I'm a rnb->hiphop lover->metalhead->alternative sound music lover ^^ so I can only guess people with less interest on widen their knowledge/learn or try something new will be surprised. As they were with Sexy Nukim or Hobi JitB. To me, all sounds PERFECT(ly normal in a way).
Change pt. 1 is an under-appreciated gem. Change pt. 2 threw us ALL for a loop. And Aeon the producer is thrilled abt it 😂
This feels exactly how it sounds when a friend breaks your heart.
Ooo that’s a good description.
