    I'm making the switch from high-quality kibble to high-quality fresh dog food so I decided to have a little fun getting my dogs in on the decision as to which diet to try.
    I'm making this switch due to research, continuing education, and conversations with nutrition experts over the past several months while collecting information for my UA-cam Nutrition series. I also chose Nom Nom specifically due to the team that formulated their diets, the quality of the ingredients, and - their customer service is on point, (always a bonus)!

    High-quality nutrition means a longer, healthier, happier life for my dogs and I'm all about that!
    Did you know that diet is linked to behavior? The gut is "off", (whether due to nutritional deficits or the microbiome being in dysbiosis) can cause behavioral shifts in your dog as well. Some fun reading on that: www.ncbi.nlm.n...

    My favorite part about switching my dogs to Nom Nom is that Boada Bear no longer has horrible gas 🤢 seriously - he could clear the whole house with it before! He's been on multiple diets through his life and we are finally free of the funk! 🥳 If you didn't see it yet - be sure to check out the interview I did with two of the Nom Nom team members on the gut microbiome here: ua-cam.com/video/KRa_9NydsW0/v-deo.html

    I have been feeding our now 10-year old poodle-bichon mix Nom Nom for about 6 months now. The changes are dramatic. More energy, better movements, and seemingly all-around happiness. She is nuts for her meals now, and often, she is thinking about them while we walk before dinner. I sometimes have to coax her into taking a longer walk than she wants simply because she knows it's dinner time. She daily eats two 110g bags - one in the morning and one in evening. This was the Nom Nom recommended diet. Her favs are beef mash and chicken chow. BTW, including tax, each meal is less than 3 dollars. I would highly recommend Nom Nom to anyone wanting to try a fresh food diet for their dogs.

    I'm not sure if you can tell much from this test because the dogs had a little trouble accessing the food due to the small bowls and slippery floors. Also, how hungry were the dogs? Glad to hear you did notice that they needed a mat that grips the floor! I use a rubber mat and it works well. Definitely some bigger bowls that are more suitable for large dogs would be kinder.

    • @SaraOndrako
      @SaraOndrako  2 місяці тому

      Hey there! I use silicone mats under the bowls and elevated puzzle bowls now for their actual meals 😊 The small bowls were just for taste testing. I believe this was in between their regular meals when we filmed it.

    What if we just want to buy whenever we want, we mix our dogs food up and don't want a prescription. A subscription indicates they just want to hook you in and want your money.

    • @SaraOndrako
      @SaraOndrako  10 місяців тому

      Not always. For people like me who often forget to buy dog food in a timely manner (before I run out) a subscription makes my life so much easier because I don't have to remember to buy it and I don't have to waste my time driving to the store to pick it up. I don't like subscriptions that can't be changed or contract you in. Subscriptions like Nom Nom, Just Food for Dogs, and even Honest Kitchen don't contract you in and you can changed your meals, your subscription, or cancel at any time without any issues. It's good to be cautious with subscriptions but the three I mentioned here I trust and have never had any issue with. They've taken one less thing off of my to-do list!

    this video was great! question: how did you train Blue Ivy? she's so well behaved.

    • @SaraOndrako
      @SaraOndrako  3 роки тому +1

      Hi James - thanks so much 😊 Blue Ivy is motivated by food and by people so initially she was trained using those motivators with clear communication and consistency. Like any of the dogs I work with, I had to learn her personality to help navigate training as well. For example, she has a moderate prey drive and can elevate in arousal quickly, but then settles back down quickly. All good things to know and apply in training 😊

    How did u warm up the food? did u let it thaw out? microwave? dip the bags in hot water?

    • @SaraOndrako
      @SaraOndrako  3 роки тому +1

      Hi! I let it slowly thaw in the fridge. I pull a week’s worth of food out at a time and keep the rest frozen. If you want to warm it for your pup, I’d do the hot water bowl trick - the microwave may break the proteins down more.

    Why do the ingredients need to be cooked separately to qualify as “human grade” ?

    • @SaraOndrako
      @SaraOndrako  3 роки тому

      That's a great question and one for AAFCO www.aafco.org/ - I'm not sure why cooking the ingredients separately is what actually constitutes the human grade label, however, it most likely has something to do with the fact that in order to reach maximum nutritional availability, different ingredients have to be prepared at different temperatures (otherwise they lose nutritional value if overcooked or undercooked). Since the nutritional value is of importance for human consumption paired with having to meet a certain standard of quality of the ingredients, my best educated guess is those two factors equate to labeling the food as human grade.

      Hi Dennis! Yes we did. I now feed the Turkey diet to both my senior pit and my younger pit - they love it! I love the fact that my older dog’s horrible gas is gone ;) I did look into other fresh foods while trying to find the right fit for my dogs but none of the foods I looked into were as transparent with their ingredients, their process, and who was on their team actually formulating the food. Nom Nom has an impressive team and they are big into research which I love. If you decide you want to try them out, you can use this link for 50% off a trial: HTTP://trynom.com/sarao Keep me posted on what you go with and how your dog does on it! Hi Vladimir! I've inquired about shipping internationally but unfortunately, they simply aren't set up for that just yet. It's difficult to keep the food frozen for the amount of time it takes to ship internationally and it's important that the food arrives fresh. but i was wondering how did you partner with them to send you these samples?

    • @SaraOndrako
      @SaraOndrako  4 роки тому

      Hi there! I would definitely recommend this food as an excellent option if you are looking for fresh food for your dog or cat. I was researching various foods and comparing diets (raw, fresh, various kibble) and Nom Nom was one of the companies I reached out to to interview and gather data on their diets. They ended up sending these samples during that time for me to see in-person and try with my personal dogs. After this interview on the microbiome (you can watch that here: ua-cam.com/video/KRa_9NydsW0/v-deo.html) and doing a full trial with my own dogs I ended up switching to Nom Nom from a high quality kibble and now I purchase their food for my two pups every other week. If you want to try all of the diets with your dog or cat, they will send you a variety with ordering a food trial if you request it, or, you can ask to do a trial with just one diet. Here is a link for 50% a trial if you end up wanting to test it out: trynom.com/saraO. Best!

      Hi CL - You are correct, unfortunately they are not yet available in Canada. I actually emailed them to see if there was a plan in place to ship to Canada (and Hawaii and Alaska) and they told me they will let me know as soon as they are able. I don't believe this food will actually ever be available in stores simply because it is formulated specifically for each dog. The recipe is the same, however, they portion each individual meal based on your dog's age, health, weight, and other factors that determine their portion size. This is definitely a better direct to consumer model because it's so individualized. Thanks for watching!

      Hi David - I'm so sorry to hear of your experience. I've not had the same since switching both of my dogs over to their turkey diet. Their customer service team has been responsive and courteous any time that I've had questions and my dogs absolutely love all of their food. They have a padded team of experts from their board certified veterinary nutritionist to their microbiologist and my guess is that there was an issue that could compromise the health of pets such as high levels of mercury in fish supply or perhaps they were able to formulate an even more nutritious meal based on their own research / studies. It's hard to say why the changes without talking to the team but I'm guessing they had good reason. Whatever the case may be, I would definitely encourage you to let the team know about your experience. Their customer service email address is orders@nomnomnow.com. Is your kitty a picky eater? What are you going to try next?

      Just because your picky dogs won’t eat it doesn’t mean the food itself is trash. It’s very well formulated. Balanced nutrition is more important than palatability but most dogs find it very highly palatable. My kids like to eat Oreos at every meal instead of Broccoli but just like I choose what’s best to fuel their body as their parent, they aren’t getting the Oreos for dinner and my dogs are going to get what I know is good for their brain & body.
