I felt Monica actually didn´t want to hurt Phoebe´s feelings, because she could have destroy her with a couple of words. But she went with the least harm phrases.
monica don't even have problems with phoebe playing her songs until one of her customers complains about it. so it wasn't personal. but phoebe had to be a b*tch and make it a personal thing. monica was trying to talk like an adult but phoebe decided to be childish.

She was always moking Ross's love for science, that time when she made him apologize on the cat that she thought was her relative, etc, and he gifted her that bicycle that was important for her, with Chandler the same, always making him feel bad and causing trouble in his relationship with Monica (seriously count the times) and yet they always treated her very well by not telling her straight to her face that she does not sing well, her style is weird but does not mean is good, and definitely not what you would like in a fancy restaurant or a place that wants to be taken seriously. But oh well.
