Drew you probably know already but I'll say it anyways. If you click exercise when you have an army selected, over time you get the star things (I forgot it's name) to improve your next divisions with new troops, such as artillery or mountaineers. ;)
Sometimes it's more needed to create new divisions and make sure they are decently equipped. If you train, it uses up equipment. For example, if you are Germany and want to get Aushluese (sp?), you need to have 550k infantry deployed in the field. I can be better to have more troops who are green and somewhat equipped, then a small trained army.
saving before the spanish civil war is over guarantees a republican victory. there is some kind of bug which prevents reinforcement for the nationalists if you load the game back up.
I did Confederate America once, I conquered omost all of Africa, parts of Turkey. Got Australia, New Zealand, Mexico and Siam as puppets. Now these were demands some of my others were rejected. I annexed central America then creating a Collaboration Government there. Dealing with Cuba in the most annoying ways. Making a faction called "The Golden Circle" I also Faught a Fascist Britain somewhat Allied with Germany. Italy and Britain were basically the allies. I was fighting Mexico as the USA not the CSA and the Civilwar broke out with the USA fighting Mexico and me fighting with Mexico against the CSA. I lasted till 195X. This was all in Ironman Mode.

You can force a civil war, earlier, but if you let it run its course you can always get the bloodless government change.

I don't really get why fascist Russia or USA are called Empires. That's not mandatory to be a fascist country. Reich's political system was national socialism. In USA it would be something like National Democracy or National Liberalism. For USSR it be NS all again like in Germany.

to anyone playing if you want to do a Civil War in a country you turn Fascist pick the first option as it says it gains you "Fascist Revolutionaries" which would be critical to a civil war starting as you made the choice to suppress the fascist opinion which a majority of the country supported and wanted a referendum. That's just what I would do.

Patton was a war hero since his early days, great general, Rommel was the desert fox, both of these went head on in North Africa.

Omar Bradley was quite opposite of Patton, he stayed at back of the battle field while Patton was at the front, he's not the best but good as well.
