Sorry this vid came out so late! Felt like i was really cooking with this one but i had *so* many roadblocks with Premiere and files just becoming completely corrupted and unusable. At one point i had to do like 60% of the video over again from scratch so I hope you all enjoy! ❤
The giant Monol boss fight in Monster Rancher EVO is such a slap in the face. It has so many cool and unique attacks, reimagining the old, simpler style of the PS1 Monol animations into something new and really great-looking, and showed how you could make Monol work in the PS2 era. But it only shows up for one fight, as an unobtainable boss enemy, and the idea never got revisited or reused for anything. Friggin' blows, man.
Even if you don't know it, Monol has always been there for you. Whenever you need help training your monster's power without busting out the pull cart, he'll gladly stop by with his two buddies to help you out.
The space odissey hint at the beginning lmao. I love these videos you make and monol is one of my favorites too! I agree that the weirdness of MR is what made it unique back in the day. Great job in this one!
I remember a while back trying to get a friend of mine into MR2DX. The very first monster we unlocked together was a Blue Sponge, and his words, and I quote, were, "Why is it a brick?". LOL! We ended up raising a Gaboo instead, and he wasn’t really that into the game, but hey, it gave me something funny to think back on XD
Weirder still, when you're scrolling down your obscure monster rancher creators video and see a comment from your obscure scottish digimon tcg podcast channels member commenting on it. 🤯

as kids we often called monol "Wall" which seemed to fit its archetype. I mean, its a literal wall with high defence, (and of course we missed the reference to the world Monolith because we were children)

My favorite monster so far because of the vast expressions. Only other i can think that comes close is gitan from advance mostly cause of all the constant laughter; though i still haven't gotten to rank A yet cause of the short lifespan probably cause i never use vitamins, etc

Fun fact about Johnny Bravo - according to the creators, he does in fact get women and have sex, but obviously since it is a show designed to be funny and not adult they could never show that on camera, so we only see the times he gets rejected hilariously.

I LOVE Monol's design, but I hate the pop-out face. I think it would be way better if it were just a solid rectangle. It could eat its food by flattening it into a paste and sucking it up
Yes, Monster Rancher is so great because it has weird-ass designs. It’s why, despite loving Kaiju Monster Rancher, I can’t get into it as much as 1 and 2 because it’s just a bunch of humanshapes. Where’s my beautiful rectangle with a bunch of eldritch moves? Where’s my tentacle parasite that lives inside a stone disc? The game lacks the weirdness that made me fall in love with MR designs.

Monol's design is without flaw

Theres a leak for Monster Farm Line where one of the training dominoes is a playable monol
I always loved how much personality monol was able to exude through its unique animations, both in ranch and battle.
