- There isn't very much information on the web about the launch control system in the 2013 GT500 so I made a video as an end user on mine to explain the 4 different modes and real world application.

Thanks for the video. I've had a 2014 for a few months now and have been a bit overwhelmed with learning all the bells, whistles and settings. This is one bad ass machine!
I bought myself best Car ever owned. I have a bunch of Mustangs. Well 4 anyway. They are great cars it's a lifestyle and I wouldn't change a thing
Thanks for the video. I confess I haven't sat down with my owner's manual for my 2013. Most money I've spent on a car and the least I've researched a car ever! Had a 2005 GT Mustang, then a 2007 GT500 with mods but needed a 2013 because it's badass. No other reason needed.
Thank you for the video. Others videos are “hey you have a great launch control system” and video ends. Testing all this this week. Thanks
foot on brake....tap advanced traction button twice...in sport LC on
no rpm setting....that's my favorite
great vid...
Im still lost with the options lol.. Your video explained to me how to set it up after a year of owning mine. I was under the impression it was the same set up as my boss which explains why it never worked when I tried to set it up. Great Vid, thanks for clearing this issue up
Thank you so much for posting this -- hugely helpful and informative. I've never wanted one more than now :)
god, i don't know about anyone else but i LOVE the gauge clusters and the gorgeous backlighting in these new Mustangs.
Thanks for all the info. I just ordered a 14 gt500 for a customer I am sure he will want to know all about this.
Awesome feature. I love that you can adjust the LC rpm with some clicks. So if you get a pair of slicks all you have to do is set the LC at like 5k and you´re ready to cut some sick 60ft! imo the ´13 GT500 is perfection. Around mid 11s @ 126mph trap speed in the 1/4, solid rear end that´s capable of taking pretty much any abuse, 200mph top speed, amazing handling and sick potential. The basic motor can easily handle 1000hp - with a good tune, of course.
Thats pretty advanced info for a street car...fuel/air ratio etc...that's nice.
GTRs are nasty on road courses. Very hot car. ZL1s' LC is easier to use than advertised, also-it just needs to be dropped into PTM and the computer automatically calculates proper launch RPM for the conditions. Floor the gas in any of the PTM modes, bring up the clutch fast and zap, you're off and running. GT500s are great cars but you're not kidding about the dealers, the one I looked at before my ZL1 had a $10k surcharge attached and no room for bargaining! They are some popular cars.
Thanks Ive had a 13 for about a year and never knew this!!
oh man a month ago i was obsessed with the gtr r35 , now im obsessed with the gt500 , yeah the gtr is faster but is wayyyyyy more expensive to mantain , and the gt500 (or any mustang v8) has that soul, and i like it, its mean !!!
The GTR is not faster. Even the playing field with drag radials to simulate the GTR's AWD and see which car is faster. The GT500, Stock, in testing with drag radials, did 0-60: 2.7 & a 1/4 mi: 10.8@128, vs 3.5 & 11.5@126 on oem tires. The GTR simply gets stomped. If the GTR were rwd, it would not run 0-60 in under 4 sec and under 12@121 in the 1/4....
08turboSS GTRs run an 11 flat on stock tires.
any DRs and that shit is gone.
[i hate the gtr btw]
+knowxvill modded maybe.
THE SAME REASON I BOUGHT ONE!
Do you still like the Shelby?
Great information on the system "Launch Control" Advanced Track Modes.
Great video. Driving home last night for the first time, I was overwhelmed by the inability to get any grip. That thing is too powerful and it's not like I've never driven a quick car. Now I know what to do.
Hey Matt, thanks for sharing your video. This is exactly what I was looking for. I just got my '13 GT500 on January 1st and I'm still breaking it in, but by Spring I will be ready to give the LC a try and take it to the strip for some fun too.
Great video! No one has explained better!
Same goes for 2011+ GT and base. Both have a 4-way traction/stability control settings and not a word about it in the first or second printing of the owners manual/
You have to disengage traction and advance trac to do a burn out without damaging the rear. Also, on oem tires, no burn needed, just warm the tires with a little wisp of smoke.
I own a Camaro SS and I respect the 2013 Shelby for its speed down the strip. Still tho I'm a Chevy guy so I think the ZL1 is sexier lmao Nice car man
I have experienced zero fade so far but if you went flat out on a track for 10laps you could probably induce fade. Like everyone else Ford is simply using Brembo as an OE supplier. Brembo 6 piston calipers with Brembo 15" rotors, the only real difference are the pads used. Race compound pads require more heat to work properly, but are great at resisting fade. The OE pads the GT500 ships with are very soft but bite hard even in cold temps, 95% of intended use. If you track it, switch the pads.
True launch control will not activate unless the clutch is fully depressed and it is in first gear. Ford also put in a hill assist feature that locks the brakes for you so you don't have to mind the throttle and the brakes at the same time if the car is on an incline of any kind.
As far as I know the 2013 GT500 is the only car on the market where you can leave launch control on permanently all the time. Pretty sick advantage. On a side note the worst/multi-step launch control sequence to date is on the BMW M5.
I think 2013 GT500 is the same as 03-04 terminator, for its time is top of the line. Took a few years to get there. Now this 2 are best ever SVT.
I just bought my 2014 GT500.i traded my 2011 GT500 in for this car and boy I am tickled.i gotta get used to the tricky throttle on it.when I drove it off the lot it went side ways. I was barely tipping the throttle. I have yet to do my homework on the car, because it's at home in the garage.nice video btw!
Eric Haley Bro, im thinking about getting one, but can i use it as a daily car? Will it be fine? And do you recommend it as a daily driving car?
@@GusGam3r I daily drove a 2011 gt500 for 6 years. Not a good idea. I love the car but get a beater car as well.
P.S. My first Mustang was a 2000 V6, Silver. The 2013 V6 is nothing to look down upon, it puts the old 4.6L GT to shame in power, mileage, and looks.
I'm referring to the AdvanceTrac button, the "car with skid marks below it" icon located on the near the shifter. It was discussed @3:43
I've been looking at the Chevy Corvette 1Lt recently and that's 53K. According to the Ford website, this is 55K and it looks damn badass. I think I want this instead, but I'll wait and see what the 2015 Shelby looks like.
If you get the SVT package with adjustable shocks, it has very little nose dive on hard braking and handles very flat. The gearing is extremely tall so you can hit 60+ in first gear, 140mph in 3rd. I was going to put in 3.73s but seeing how you can't really connect with stock gears, 3.73s would just make it worse with slower 0-60 times and worse mileage. Ford put in tall gears to achieve a 200+mph top speed but realized it translated to traction on the street. For strip, i'd use 3.73
After driving for a solid year on these stock good years, they stick amazingly well for a car with this much power and only a 9.5" wheel at 80+ Still shocking it can do 3.5 to 60 on them though. My car has the SVT package + Track package and I can tell you that the adjustable bilstein shocks are fantastic on it in sport mode, unlike the 2012 and below which were not adjustable and imo still too soft.
I've had my 2013 v6 for just a few months, but DAMN i want a GT500..something to aim for i guess...
U got it yet?
Awesome video. I had no idea they came with LC. Damn, I should have saved the coin and bought a Shelby. Just picked up a '14 GT/CS. I thought the Shelby was 63ish, that's why I didn't bother with them. Anyway, great car!
Couple camaro owners researching why the GT500 is better, then left even more pissed off when they saw how much nicer the interior is on a Shelby than a ZL-1 :-) Full track apps with A/F ratio, nav, an adjustable always on LC they can't get. Most people don't realize, there is no electronics package/touch screen on a ZL-1 - just a same old dated "Green calculator display" basic stereo GM uses on all their low end cars. Ford outdid them on everything but the MR shocks.
I paid $68k for mine.i know its expensive but I opted for the performance pack.20 inch rear 19 in up front . adjustable bilstein shocks, and electronics package including nav.i was considering the stingray but I'm glad I didn't buy one
U PAID 68K FOR A MUSTANG OMFG. Thats what I paid for my stingray and its such a more of a classy car.
Not as fast as my car
Lol but mine will hold value come time to trade
Eric Haley quick question how old are you bro?
46
Great video! Thanks for sharing!
"Hey dude, nice car... wanna race?"
"Yeah hold on a few minutes dude let me set my car to the mode where it will let me do that.."
Haha I dig it!!
Half a tank and 98miles to e gotta love that 15 gal tank
Thanks, Matt- this was helpful. Mine still has only 600 miles on it, and the supercharger is not yet past the break-in limiter, but i still find the car is very difficult to launch- even with the limitation. Does that change ever- it has been pretty cold here- mid 50s. Also- how many miles did you have on yours when the supercharger started working?
Great info !!
Thanks Matt
thus guy is my role model :)
They should make LC an option on every mustang, or make it a dealer add on like the track key for the Boss 302.
I love these camera views....make it seem like its me getting it it xD
Nice video. Better than mine. :)
Thanks for the insight!
such a badass car!
Great vid bro... Thanks :)
98 miles to Empty with half a tank... sounds about right
I think the Camaro Zl1 is a nice car on the outside it is a nicer car. But I do like the interior better in my GT500 over my Camaro ss though. I would say the suspension is way better than the GT500s all day just for the fact of irs over a axle.
Correction on the GTR 2013. We call it the 3 finger salute, hold all three switches up for 3 seconds and your in launch mode. Hold brake mash gas to the floor it holds RPM release brake and bubbye! However you do have to reset it during key cycles so that part is correct. By the way looking to get a Shelby myself but unsure if the 2014 with IRS will have the Shelby at launch or not? Plus seeing as how the Ford Dealers rape everyone looking for a 13 Shelby I might just wait!
Actually, the '13 ZL1s have MyLink. And I disagree that the GT500's interior is superior. The two cars are very similar in interior quality. Yes, I drive a ZL1. I looked at the GT500 first and chose not to ante up the $10,000 dealer surcharge for the car. Opted for a ZL1 and I'm glad I did-it has a sunroof and head-up display, and I really like the way it handles and esp. brakes. But the GT500 is an excellent package also. Ford + Chevy have it all over the imports for performance cars right now.
thank you so much
Sounds like a liquor store when you open the door lmfao
thanks for the info bro
Honestly, I would find a 2013 used with 500mi and save a bundle. They are identical except the 2013 got cool SVT 20th Anniversary light up door sills and the 2014 does not. The Mustang spent 50yrs as rwd it will never become an awd without alienating it's loyal. Yes eventually the big V8 will have to go away, but probably not till 2025 when they have to have 54.5mpg avg across their fleet.
id rather have a key start. the push button start reacts with radio signals, and when you push the button it may not start the car. key>pushstart.
12 is about what I get when do 0-60 runs and burnouts all day. You can see 25 easy on the highway.
Badass car bro!!
Awesome thanks bud
Very helpful
There are tradeoffs when you want a 662HP vehicle while maintaining a price point of $54k. Name any factory vehicle in the world that offers over 600HP for under $55,000? For years I received regular product development surveys from Ford on what features I would like to see, I asked for Launch control, 6 piston brakes, a infotainment system that could stream bluetooth audio, and wider rear wheels. They still let me down on the tiny 9.5" wheels but the key fob never made my list of must haves.
I got the 2014 Shelby gt500. What is the best rpm setting? Please need help with that. Also how can I make it faster at the take off. It is kind of slow to pick up the speed. Plus does having the traction control or the lunch control effect the speed?? Please need answer asap n help. Thanks in advance
question do you think i should wait for the 2015 mustang or just get a 2014 because i heard that the 15 is going to haveCAFE, and a eco boost what do you think one more question do you think that the mustang should get AWD ty
how many RPM have 7000? i mean maximum for changing long gear you can change in 7000 RPM?
I'm a bit torn on this car - it is great - I've come close to buying and the shifter is the best I've ever felt. I have a new 5.0 engine stang and I think the new 5.0 engine has more tech in it and more potential. So I guess for 'smart' buyers you have to do your homework - old school V8 with a super charger or new high tech v8 with potential? Knowing me I will probably pick up one of these GT500's since off the lot there is nothing needing improved aside from the exhaust sound if you prefer loud like i do....
All the mustangs do this !!! Any mustang from 2011 to present has these modes. The only one that has the launch control are the shelby and I believe the boss also have the launch control. Other then that all mustangs come with sport mode, TC off, and All assists off.
When u had it in launch control, did u have it in 1st gear or neutral? When reaving the engine?
I wonder if that Nav system will last for 30 years.
Is it possible to switch all info on LCD screen from imperial units onto metric system?
I notice on your rpm setting yours says 2500 to 5200 I just bought a 13 gt 500 and mine only show 3000 to 4500 is there a way to change it
There were a lot of complaints about the breaks getting heat soaked pretty quick. Have you had any of those issues?
I have been going to the 1/4mile I have made few pass and the best I have been able to get with the lc is a 11.701 I turned off the lc and did a 11.456 the lc is not really that good but is good for some that isn't that good of a driver
Hey what kind of 0-60 have you been able to get on the streets? I have only been able to get about 4.3s, to much wheel spin at the bottom and top of 1st gear.
Nice I've been working my ass of for a Shelby and I finally could get one your right I should just get a 2014 one. I heard that the 5.8 L engine is not going to fit under the 15' hood IDK If that true. What do you think should I get the electronics package, SVT one
10 years from now people will be saying that to those who got straight 4 with a turbo, only then they will be saying V6 instead of V8.
I like it!!!!
Perhaps Ford fried too many clutches at 5200 and the newer programming has been lowered to 4500rpm now. I would heed their warning ;-)
I know its not really related but why do American cars insisted on making an annoying noise for every little thing like leaving headlights on, seatbelt off, door open etc.. is it required by law or is it just common practice in the industry?
I just took a ride in my coworkers 2013 GT500. I am selling my 2012 Jagaur XF Supercharged and buying a 2014 GT500. OMFG
Much more harder to use than the zl1 I just sold the zl1 and got a 13 gt 500 new with 4 grand off msrp
they keep creating new Shelby to look on Shelby eleanor but is nice car
It'll roast the tires FOR a apparent reason MATT, it's called TQ. Plus the factory tires are not all that grippy and I would not be driving it fast much when temps are above 85* because of poor/ high density altitude. Fords GT500 is far superior to the GT500 except 2 things: skinny rear tires and poor rear end/shocks, both of which can be easily changed.
Well anytime you wanna race me in whatever you got I'm in.
Oh no! You have to use a KEY to start! The horror!!!!
how much coust $?
Wow why does it get warm so fast?
cylinder liners are very thin on that 5.8L
so thin that they had to use a plasma coating
The car was obviously running prior... Lol no matter how thin cylinders walls are lawn mowers don't heat up that fast
Sweets Auto the plasma coating is thinner than paper.
combine that with boost and u have a recipe for overheating.
comparing a lawn mower to a Blown V8 is a bad comparison.
please do 0-60 runs and 0-100
Indont have trucktion control :( it sucks
2013 gt500 and u still have to use a key to start it? Once a ford always A ford
The only problem of a V6 Stang is: Is not a V8 lol
this is one of teh reasons the gt500 rapes at drag racing. but for track racing ill keep the zl-1 or the boss 302
I shit you not not currently own a m5 and 2013 shelby and could not agree more
brake*
I've had a best of 22mpg on the freeway with my 2013 GT500 and I've only got 2000 miles on it and have only taken one long trip in it. 12mpg is nowhere near accurate. You're barely above 1000rpm in 6th gear at 65mph. Hell, If I'm under 80mph I'll often leave it in 5th gear.
If you are trying to escape some annoying family quarrel, this Launch Control comes in handy. Just outrun your parents in law. With this puppy, they smell your dust.
Half tank of gas and 98 miles to empty, ouch! lol But hey no one buys this car for gas mileage. I'll let you drive my 13' premium v6 if you let me drive this beast, seems fair. haha
Complaining about turning a key? stick to a car with an automatic transmissions, god forbid you have to move a shifter.
2014 corvette is way fucking better than this piece of shit mustang where did u buy it the flee market
Yeah, BUT Camaros are hella sexier than Ponies LOL
