My vote is I think she was singing this live. And yes, I also vote for the whole phone book singing! She was one of my favorites back in the day. Always loved to slow dance to this one. You had great taste in music even as a young child! You know, maybe the reason there aren't many that watched this reaction is because they are way too young! This one goes back a long, long way. And even then, to be honest, I'm not sure they played it as much as they could have on the radio - the place we had to listen to popular music back then.
She definitely singing! I knew from the first note! The track sounds a little different too.

This song was written and produced by the late great Maurice White of Earth, Wind, and Fire. She’s singing live and no that audience is too clear to be Soul Train. It’s looks like Top of The Pops in London.
This is definitely live, it’s different from the record. On the record it was more softer, smoother and angelic sounding. Whereas live, she had to project her voice and add more to the notes.
Live and alive with passion and talent. Up there with Nancy Wilson and Dinah Washington.
I’m familiar enough with the recorded version to be pretty confident in saying that was a live vocal. Although it really didn’t lose much against the studio version. Amazing voice.
She was 27 when she recorded this! She looks like a kid. Damn, I’m old. Some beautiful runs by her in this song. Fantastic voice. I love R&B. Love her!
