Thank you very much for making this video! After my stroke I had forgotten how to use mine. Now you have brought it all back for me. Please keep your videos coming, and God bless you!
I bought one on a whim just before Christmas. Best thing EVER! Any scraps that come along, I'll wind up. Things that need undoing, like that knitted double stranded blanket, are now caked. Messy looking orange and smaller sized balls are now caked. That HUGE skein of cotton that has been a pain to work from is now caked into 7 different cakes. I got a 20-ish dollar one and it works fine. If it broke now, it was still worth it.
Ah, I want one so bad haha. Never even thought about a yarn winder until I watched your video where you set up your craft room and wound all those old skeins into cakes. So satisfying. Now I really want one 😂
My husband just walked in on me nodding in agreement that I wanted one, I could have talked back to the screen too. Who really knows??? 🤣 I definitely want one more than ever now. Thanks for the video, its great to see it in action & how easy it is!
I just got a giant wooden one for my birthday and I love it. Mine doesn't wind it into a cake but it helps so much with keeping yarn tidy when you have to start a project from scratch!😊
I think this is very much useful to keep the yarn in a perfect manner. I had no idea on them before. I use to wind the yarn with the help of my hands. Seems to be easy to do with it. Lovely share.
Mine came in from amazon just today and its so relaxing to me to use while im laid up in bed (i have it clamped to my lap desk with the largest book i have weighing it down so i can spin without it liftingand the metal arm taped down to the lap desk. Its just one of those cheap plastic lap desks with the beanbag on bottom.) but its making me so tired actually lol because its such a relaxing thing to me apparently. I wanted one to fix up my scraps and make it easier to store on my shelves as we live in a shared apartment with limited space. I mostly came to your video to figure out how to deal with the cake when im done winding because i was worried i would unravel it and the directions arent the best. Lol the company i got this from actualy had a 15% off coupon at the time so it was maybe only $18.
I bought this same one... Loved it and wound 150 cakes before it died (stripped a plastic gear.) Going for the larger one with metal gears as I don't think this one would last.
Does it work with thick yarn? I bought the same one as you and I’m trying thick yarn but I have some tension issues while winding. Do you know how to solve this? Thanks in advance ❤
So skiens are made to pull thru the center and crochet from them directly. However, I quickly learned today that they can get knotted up. Would turning a skein into a cake reduce the "yarn barf" I've been seeing on UA-cam? (aka massive knots! lol) Anyways, even when rolling it into a cake wouldn't the skein still have yarn barfs we'd have to contend with to begin with?
Hey Sylvia! Rolling into cakes definitely decreases yarn barf significantly!! Unfortunately not all skeins are created equal and although they may look neat on the outside the inside can be a completely different story 😅 It’s very hard to get yarn barf once you’ve rolled it into a cake 😊
I’ve been wary of the cheaper ones but also not wanting to pay for those really expensive ones. I think I’m going to take a chance and get a 20ish dollar one!
PrettyKitty Wright - I got one like that some years ago (small version) and it has done very well the whole time. But I want one that does the larger cakes.
Hi!! It's the first time I'm looking at one of your video ... I really like you! You are beautiful, pleasant to look at you, I like your accent and you explain very well! So I'm a new fan of yours and I subscribed. This subject interests me and I'm gonna buy a yarn winder. Many thanks.
It turns into a necessity when you realise that you have 100 skeins of yarn coming and you would have to wind them all by hand, or invest some 40 dollars (winder and swift) to save yourself some serious grief.
idk how yall are saying you dont NEED one. i just started and i cant do anything til i get one lmao idk why they dont sell them like this bc how IMPOSSIBLE it is to find the yarn in the middle of the skeins! even people in the store were picking up others of same color to see if we could find ANY of them! nope!!
Thank you very much for making this video! After my stroke I had forgotten how to use mine. Now you have brought it all back for me. Please keep your videos coming, and God bless you!
Thank you so much Jane! I’m so glad I was able to help you 🥰 Take care 💕
god bless you jane! amazing that you are returning to old skills and hobbies after a stroke 😊

Yes it’s very handy for keeping things neat and tidy! 😁 Thankyou for watching! 🥰
I didn't buy a ball winder for 25 years, trying to save money. Bought myself one for my birthday. I could kick my own butt for waiting so long!

I’ve only now discovered your channel. You’re doing a fabulous job! Love it! ❤
Thank you so much! Welcome!! 🥰

Omg just ordered last night so excited to try😮❤
Thanks for your tutorial, really helpful for my stash, some of my yarn been purchased on hank,so I need to wind those,
I’ve been wary of the cheaper ones but also not wanting to pay for those really expensive ones. I think I’m going to take a chance and get a 20ish dollar one!

I got one from Amazon, $23.00 Australian, works great

Thank you so much! Welcome to the channel 🙂
My aunt got me the same one you do, but it doesn't criss-cross the yarn and just makes a "donut" shape 😢
My question is how do you UNWIND the skein onto the winder without it turning into a huge tangled mess??
Love the winder👍
Thanks for watching Janet! 🥰

I love my yarn winder. I use my cakes from the outside. It feeds even nicer than pulling from the inside.
I just bought one and I can’t get it to wind right it just makes a sloppy mess
I just received mine via Amazon yesterday. I can't figure out how to attach the metal clamp into the plastic winder.
Hi, I have a question. Doesn't the wool get damaged when it is rolled up compared to the skein ? Because the strand is tighter.
Not at all! 🙂
@@Katieree Thank you :)
I have a question can use this winder with embroidery floss
I don’t see why not! 😁
I bought one and it's on its way to me but I didn't know what it was.. Thanks for this
My pleasure! ❤️
Can you use the winder for hanks of yarn?
I’m sure you can Kathi! However I have never used mine with a hank. I assume you would probably need a swift aswell. Thankyou so much for watching! ❤️
So uh i just learned about center pulling but some yarn just don't got it lol
Thank you!!! I bought one and enjoyed your video !!!
My pleasure! Thanks for watching 🥰
I can't get mine to work right.
Her: Who even pulls form the outside anymore? Idk
Me: Looks at my yarn that I’m pulling from the outside. Oops
Also me: Kets go shopping!
Let’s*
😂😂😂
Here in 2022 and I pull from the outside cuz it doesn’t get knotted up on me that way😂😂so you’re not alone.
Approximately how long does it take to wind a cake? Like five to ten minutes, or an hour?
A couple of minutes max!
I always pull from the outside. THe inside usually gives problems tbh.
I have a yarn winder I got it off of Amazon
idk how yall are saying you dont NEED one. i just started and i cant do anything til i get one lmao idk why they dont sell them like this bc how IMPOSSIBLE it is to find the yarn in the middle of the skeins! even people in the store were picking up others of same color to see if we could find ANY of them! nope!!
I WANT ONE!!!! 🤯🤯🤯
Thankyou 😊 very informative, do I need one… absolutely 😂
Awesome ty ❤️❤️
My pleasure!
Yours came out bigger then mine does 😢😂
Be careful on how much it will accommodate. Make sure it will cake at least 10 oz
TFS
Good video but you blab too much.
How rude!
i bought one and the little metal stand you feed the yarn through won’t stay up, it keeps falling over 🥲
I think you pull the metal stand and then it will hold. I have a different yarn winder, and I had to watch the video to figure that out.
This is the exact one that I just ordered and I'm happy I got it ! Thank you so much for sharing with us. 🧶🤗🙏
