Cheers! The airline is limited to 30 seats under the FAA regs so fingers crossed they come across some more E145s to rip some seats out of!

I really liked your part at the end about how quick the landing to uber to destination thing was. I used to live in Oakland and my good friend lived in San Francisco and we'd often go to vegas for the weekend. He would take United/Alaska/whatever from SFO and I'd take JSX from Oakland. There was one day where I pushed it to the minimum, left my house around 4:10pm for a 4:35pm flight. Got to the terminal at 4:29pm, got my ticket, boarded, had great winds, landed at 5:38pm, called an uber while we were on the runway, the uber pulled up as i walked out of the terminal and I was in my room at the Wynn at 5:52pm. 1 hour and 42 minutes after I'd left my house, which was the block time for the same flight from OAK to LAS on a big airline.
Long story short, I love JSX, even though I now live in an area they don't serve. (Come back to seattle please!!!)

My record for buying tickets and being on a plane being pushed out of the gate is like 5 minutes.
This was pre 9/11 and me and my friends where traveling domestic in Sweden.
We entered arlanda walked over to the youth ticket machine (you paid $25 to fly on any spare seat) noticed a plane was about to depart to our desination so we ran up the escalators to the gate which was the closest one to the main entrance of the domestic terminal.
I asked if people with youth tickets where allowed to board and they said yes as they where just about to let those board.
We walked onto the plane throwing the bags in the chute for the baggage handlers and as i was putting up my jacket in the overhead bins the plane was pushed out from the gate.
It was under an hour from walking into Arlanda and landing at Kallax/Luleå it got to 60 minutes as we where taxiing to the gate in Luleå.
    Best flight ever.
At the time Sweden did not have safety checks on internal flights.
    The flight was with SAS.

    • @Ben-xe8ps
      @Ben-xe8ps 3 роки тому +2

I doubt you paid in $ or the fare was quoted in $ and I also very much doubt that there were no security checks of any sort at Arlanda unless this was in the 1960's. (I assume that by 'safety' checks you mean 'security' checks as the lack of any 'safety' checks on Swedish domestic flights would have been frightening!)
Did SAS really have 'youth fare ticket machines' in those days? Quite unique! How did you enter your name etc? How did they verify the entitlement to the youth fare? Was this '$25 fare' applicable to all routes within Sweden? I assume that as you were travelling on a standby basis such passengers would have been accepted at flight closure? Surely at the gate you would have had to check-in and been placed on the standby/waiting list and then accepted and issued with a boarding card, not simply have asked if people with youth tickets could board. I am also surprised that they would have allowed a check-in less than 5 minutes prior to aircraft departure for passengers travelling with checked baggage. If you 'threw' your bags in the chute (properly tagged I hope) as you were boarding and the aircraft pushed back before you were even seated, I assume that your bags would have been left behind

    • @SuperGenericUser
      @SuperGenericUser 3 роки тому

@@Ben-xe8ps Did SAS really have 'youth fare ticket machines' in those days? Quite unique!
Yep, a computer at the terminal.
How did you enter your name etc?
With a keyboard, I know, mind blowing technology in 1999
How did they verify the entitlement to the youth fare?
Since you enter your DOB and it's based on age.
Was this '$25 fare' applicable to all routes within Sweden?
Yep, there was a standard price in all of Sweden, I don't remember what it was but 250 SEK sounds reasonable and that would be about $25.
I assume that as you were travelling on a standby basis such passengers would have been accepted at flight closure?
Yep, that's pretty much what it was, they sold these if there were seats available close to departure.
If you 'threw' your bags in the chute (properly tagged I hope) as you were boarding and the aircraft pushed back before you were even seated, I assume that your bags would have been left behind
Arlanda still has these chutes, although they're not in use any more. Pre 9/11 you could throw down bags there and they would get put in the haul and unloaded at the destination (Obviously doesn't work if you have a layover). Convenient way to reduce the usage of overhead compartments while still allowing pax access to the bag's contents at the airport.

Back in the day, I worked shift work. For 3 years I worked midnight to 8am, before we went back to 24 hour rotating shifts.
Because of that, "day drinking" was a part of every day life. One of or guy's had a brother who even ran a bar dedicated to us, it opened at 7am.
When I went out to restaurants during the day, I'd be into the whiskey at 10-11 am.
Sure I get dirty looks, but seriously, 10am for "normal" people is 10PM for me.
I'm retired now, but the habit stuck with me. So I don't see an issue for someone like you who travels and goes through time differences on the frequency that you do, having a drink at noon in Texas when it's 5PM back home, and even later throughout Europe and the middle east.
    So cheers! 🍸

Hahn air from Germany used to have scheduled flight between Dusseldorf and Luxembourg flown by CJ4.
And you can actually book it on Expedia (I suppose it's no longer possible due to coivd). On occasions, it is even cheaper than a business class ticket from Lufthansa. It was probably the most achievable way to experience business jet for regular people.

Depends if it’s proper Belgian-brewed Stella, which is IMHO a fine beer. UK Stella has been brewed under licence in the UK since 1992. Turned it into donkey piss overnight, but gullible Brits still pay premium prices for it.

I laughed at the Stella marketing and how the u.s. eats it up... but I disagree on red stripe. First time I had red stripe I was on a beach in Jamaica with a cardboard box of jerk chicken and rice and it was a wonderful beer! Years later I bought some for a cookout... It's a horrible beer when you're sober and not stoned!

Same thing happened during 90s/00s with the original versions of Grolsch, Red Stripe, etc being replaced with horrible British-brewed equivalents. Now the same has happened to Becks. Maybe the quality deteriorates for all consumers, and not just here in the UK. All the best for 2022, sir!

Paul, just some geography notes regarding your comment. East Texas is pine forested hills, and quite pretty. Central Texas west of Austin and northwest of San Antonio is rugged hills, canyons, and deep valleys, and quite scenic and popular with those from out of state, especially retirees. Much of west Texas, which is the stereotype, is anything but scenic, although there are mountain ranges and two beautiful national parks (Big Bend NP and Guadalupe Mtns NP). There are other areas, like the "river road" between Austin and Houston, which was settled by Europeans because it looks so much like parts of Europe (including the rolling green hills in parts of England). It's not Colorado or California, but there are many beautiful areas in the state that a lot of people aren't aware of. Look me up sometime and I'll enjoy showing you around.

Just took an Oakland-Las Vegas round trip on JSX. There's some good (avoiding the main terminal) but for the most part it didn't live up to expectations. It certainly didn't feel like a premium experience proportional to the cost. The "terminals" in both Oakland and LV were dingy, cheap, and felt more like random small-town bus terminals. The planes were fine, but nothing like business class level on a typical airline. Economy-style seats, jets felt outdated. Ground and flight staff were very nice. Glad I tried it but wouldn't do it again.
