Fun fact about this mission:
One of the payloads is a CubeSat Calle EagleCAM from ERAU (my uni in Florida). It will land *before* the lander itself and will attempt to take images of the lander landing. It will create third person views of a spacecraft making an extraterrestrial landing, which hasn’t been done before!
Cool! Could you, if you were part of the team who did, explain how cubesats are made?
@@abbagang3844 heyo, I am not part of this team (i am undergrad and the team is for grads only), but I still need to design (not build) a cubesat for my senior design project. Basically, you can break the cubesat into 2 parts: payload and bus. Payload is your science equipment (ex: bio samples, cameras, sensors etc.), so that part is designed and built specifically for the mission, so how it is built varies. The bus is the rest of the cubesat. It provides control, communication, power, etc. Many parts are actually commercially available to purchase online (check a company called Endurosat to get an idea), but sometimes components are also made in-house. Then you assemble the parts that best fit your needs and you make a satellite! Ofc this is still quite difficult and expensive (individual components like power distribution systems or on-board computers or reaction wheels could cost up to $60,000 if not more), I am just paraphrasing haha. How much exactly was bought off the shelf for EagleCAM and how much was made in-house, I do not know.
This was pretty funny parodying the Falcon 9 launch and livestream, loving the little tracker at the bottom too.
EDIT: Oh god the return capsule twist at the end was the best.

If you fly a steep ascent profile and meco at ~50k ASL, you’ll have enough time to circularize with the second stage and then switch back to the first stage before it reenters Kerbin’s atmosphere.

You need "Place Anywhere" RCS thrusters on the top of the booster to control boost back and upper atmosphere.
I am actually really glad they finally updated the swivel to remove the flange at the top. My old falcon 9s used to have an awkward ring at the bottom.

They just launched a Falcon 9 rocket and it carried a lunar lander inside made by a private company, and they already sent it into space. And as of today it just made history, it's successfully landed on the Moon.
The new lunar lander made by its private company, became the first private lunar lander to land on the Moon. And the first for America to return to the moon since Apollo 17 back in 1972.
I just saw it on the news today, and I'm very proud of SpaceX and even the private company that made the lunar lander. And it looks like they made your vision become a reality

Also you might want to get this mod called "flight manager for reusable stages" , it basically creates quick saves like you did but you can recover the first stage and continue with your mission.
He's quite aware that there's mods that allow this and even mentions it in the stream, *DOH*!
And in the 2017 Falcon 9 stream he references in this stream he even mentions FMRS by name.
And as he mentions it's actually possible to do stage-recover in a no-mods too, it's just complicated due to the KSP physics range issues.
Here's a mission....Strap some solid boosters on the Starship booster to see how much more payload you could get to orbit.
How 'bout if the payload was solid boosters for one leg of a Mars mission. :)

I miss seeing KSP on Matt's channel. Like Space This Week is fine and all, and I do learn more about what's going on with rockets (even if I'm not super happy how much focus there is on SpaceX), but I LIVED for his KSP commentaries. Plus I've learned how to play KSP better because of his tutorials and even just watching how he does things. It helps a lot!
So please do more KSP Matt!!! We would love it!

One thing that you forgot is the cold gas thruster for the booster.

Well……… Nova C Is On the Moon, but its kind of laying on its side xd
I have made working complete-in-one-mission falcon-9 style boosters in stock ksp, but not sure if I used any dlc parts. Mostly vector based, trick is to go for quite a large first stage to give loads of extra delta v for boostback and also to aim for quite a high peak altitude, basically knock the payload into a "well out of the atmosphere" trajectory, do your boostback very quickly, switch to the second stage very quickly, and circularise asap, or at least enough so you can switch back to stage 1 for landing, and then finish your second stage burn after landing. I usually use the next continent along on kerbin for the landing to maximize payload/delta v to orbit, with the right admin building thingies selected you will recoup almost the entire value of the first stage. Additionally I tend to make the second stage a spaceplane for the return, so i can land it right on the runway on re-entry.

Matt there’s a mid called FMRS which lets you switch between crafts at the point of stage separation and keep both, so you can do full recoveries in the same launch, if you’re willing to take on a mod to help you do it
