Chorale and Shaker Dance - John Zdechlik
Mancunian Winds
Directed by Matt Burke
Matt Burke taught me =) I am so proud he did, but i didnt know he took this band. WOW that didnt sound to have just ONE Tuba player... that was amazing! Well done all!
Absolutely adore this piece. Out of all the songs I have ever played, this and Rhapsody in Blue are my favorites
I played this in high school, not later than 1974 (the year I graduated.) I was 1st trombone. A great pice for band, I’d almost forgotten about it!
Yes, I played this when I was in high school in band camp at University of Illinois in Urbana. Brings back memories.
I played this in high school. One of the longest songs I did.
Even though there are only two french horns, they make such a sound! Great playing fellow hornist!
wow! I'd forgotten how good we were then.
ahh good times.
Lorna xx
Played this my freshman year ^^ That was like my first Alto Sax solo ever xD
Playing this song right now in band.
Fun as hell
I'm playing this in 8th grade too and clarinets ROCK!!!
Played this yesterday for Festival! Amazing song!
very well done. this is great to listen sence my high school band is doing this for our winter concert
I love playing this song!
We are playin this is advanced symphonic band this year. It sounded pretty good for a bunch of middle schoolers
A symphonic band favorite in middle school. I played 1st clarinet; I was really close to playing it the whole way through without getting lost, but alas! Fun times. :)
We're playing this in band for our next concert! Thanks for a great example!
(BTW 2nd Trumpets FTW)
the wind ensemble at my school is playing this and i'm 1st alto sax. so excited and nervous for that solo!
Thanks Jon, glad you enjoyed it! I too loved playing this in wind band as a kid and it was great to get to conduct it too! BTW, I've listened to quite a few of your works and am very impressed with your skills. You have a great idea about what sounds good. Thanks for the music! :)
im only an 8th grader and were playing this for the winter concert its so amazingg
played this my last year in junior high and our band beat all the bands including the college bands for best band overall... twas a glorious moment
my scool wind ensemble played this at the beginning of the year:)
Always loved the French horns on this and of course my saxophone section. LOL
so did mine, it's one of my favorites. :)
I don't think there's a high school band anywhere in the U.S. who hasn't played this piece :-P ... The Light Eternal is also becoming a widely played piece too. But this is awesome I love it ^.^
8:21 to the end is without a doubt the best part of the whole song.
@23fastpitch Same here. I played this my freshman year and it was the best piece of music i have ever played
hello droopy flutes.
besides that , this is pretty good.
we are playing this in symphonic band this year. I play flute.
It's really fun. :)
Memories
playing this next Wednesday..
actually I played this 3 years ago in all south jersey band, and it was lowreeds, bass clarinet, bassoon
Played it this year. On the Alto Sax
@23fastpitch my wind ensmble is playing it this year in middle school and im first alto sixth grader :D love this piece
twas always a great song on bari sax.
I'm in middle school and we just sight read this yesterday. It's hard, especially since i'm 1st trumpet.
i loved playing this song. i play tuba on this
And we got straight superiors! :-P
same here, i love...i think its U through to the 4/4 allegro
@TheAntionez
This is the original version of Zdechlik's Chorale and Shaker Dance. The one styled "C & SD-II" is shorter and not as demanding. I've played the tuba charts for both; they're both worth the effort but I prefer this, the original, version. Two versions notwithstanding, the Mancunian Winds do a bang up job; the lower brass is spot on (too bad the video work is so amateurish, though).
I was really nervous to play this. It turned out really good, though ^_^
WMS Symphonic Band 08/09, grades 7/8 split.
We played II last year. I prefer the original over II.
we played this my freshmen year in band its an amazing piece but it takes alot of practice
@akilahthomas I was the same way. I was first alto and i got so nervous, especially i was playing on a new reed and new size for that one week but still manage to pull it off
@saxophoneplayer8 Im sorry for that incorrect comment. My brother, who is also in concert band, mixed the songs up and replied on the wrong video using my account. I thought I removed the comment but apparently I didn't. Thanks for commenting on it otherwise I would not have noticed :)
@ambroom well my band director is the president for our county band program
@ambroom were doing it for mpa
3 people have simple minds
i know. as a flute player, that makes mad.
yeah you're right
I play timpani for this tomorrow in Highschool Spymphonic band
eek, 3:35 to 3:45...
2:55 to 3:05 the trumpets nailed it.
amazing piece, although the woodwinds are badly out of tune. we are currently performing this piece for the parsippany high school wind ensemble winter concert
the french parts are the best in this piece.
French Horn players have it rough in this song.. the part is killer. But they did a great, great job at :48.
Nooooo! but ok. First of all the director took the last part of this song way too fast. I mean the woodwinds did all they could to try to keep up. Anybody who's anybody has played this piece in their day and it's mostly this band directors fault that it didn't come out the way it's supposed to but as band players we do what we have to do!
That band director is me. I take your opinion that the end is too fast for your taste. That was over 10 years ago, and looking back, I may do it slightly differently these days, but at that time and place, the tempo felt right and it was exciting for the ensemble to play it. I favour energy and drive over accuracy especially where a youth/community band is concerned.
This performance was part of our highly successful tour of Berlin and surrounding areas. The band loved it and the audiences loved it too. An unforgettable experience for a lot of the players involved.
Thank you for your input.
Is the tuba player playing at 4:45?
@musicalgenius98 what grade?
@Saxazzkicker me too
@matt15648 they are supposed to be
I could hear the horn part just fine at 4 mins. It's NOT a solo, it's just a mute. It's definitely not marked solo in the part. The reason why it may seem like a solo is because they're ff at that part, but, they're muted so. it sounds like it's mf, to f...
@swaggeringbossman 7th and 8th grade
noleman and fightingirish...you seem to forget that jesus played trombone.
^Baritone/Trombone player
@shun236 9 mins lol !!!!
The tuba player sure screwed up that 3/2 measure just before I (3:30)
Other than that, a very nice recording & performance.
This is a good piece to showcase bass clarinet. But yet, no video of the girls when they have their shining moment. Also, why do bands play this if they're going to leave out the very important xylophone solo? It takes away from the piece.
man, that concert bass drum player must be sight reading. his hits are early, late & missed. Other than that, the entire ensemble played well.
rowlett? o.o
you need a LOT more on the solos. They need to come off strong. other then that, you do quite a good job
ahhhhh... timpani player missed his big entrance in the beginning.
This is not Chorale and shaker dance! This is Chorale and shaker dance II. The first one is more famous and sound better(in my opinion).
just got this and my co-oboe player is being lame and complaining about the whole piece and I'm like "woow, stfu plz I know how to play the oboe so its ok, we don't need you complaining about it and messing it up :P"
Really triangle player? seriously???
pffft, french horns all the way
Woodwinds are out of tune.
