I was in junior high that season that Nathan Thurm came on SNL. Every Monday morning in English class my friend and I would talk to each other in that manner. Such great memories.
"Conan, I will tell you, da origin of Nathan Thurm. In 1987, Jolson boists into my dressing room an' says, 'Irving, I need, a lawyer!' And in 5 minutes, I had created Nathan Thurm! Give me a C, a bouncy, C!" "Where did that piano player come from?!"
It wasn't only Marion. He based it on these politicians and lawyers whose TV interviews reveal them to be someone who can't take any responsibility and are always changing the subject or deflecting blame. It was the same sketch every time but still was very funny.
@@warrior99s16 Also there’s more content online than what airs on tv! I watched the show on tv last night and this clip wasn’t aired as part of the interview (Conan did say they didn’t have time to fit in everything into the half hour show and that more content like this would be online)
Marty felt SNL was to intense ...meatgrinder ...much different than SCTV ...he had to adjust in New York ...came to understand audiences on SNL loved the John Belushies, Gilda Radner because they grabbed audiences right away (from his book CD 💿 I Must Say )
The question: "how did you come up with such a unique original character" The answer: "the role was written for me, the name was written for me and Billy Crystal said I should act like the makeup lady"

Man I hope nothing changes. Conan will make magic happen anywhere he goes, I just hope Andy is still gonna be there. You cant separate these two
Off topic but Andy also has a weird comedic energy with Julia
Martin Short is always one of my favorites to watch on Conan.
One of my favorite sketches
Tells the story the same every time, everywhere. Brilliant character.
I saw his Nathan Thurm on SNL when I was 8 and it's still my fav snl character
2 legends...love you Marty..love you Conan...
He is so sharp-witted and O'Brien can hold his own probably because they are friends outside the show
I just adore these two
An amazing and uproarious interview. The story of 'Nathan Thurm' creation was sidesplitting.
My two favorite funny guys of all time!!!
I remember Nathan Thurm I used to crap up when he was on, I was only like 10 or 11
Comedic minds. So fun to watch.
I miss SNL, Saturday night are not the same. 😢💖
I'm waiting for Jimminy Click hosting the Golden Globes.
Martin Short is a true comic genius.
I really like how like every other Canadian Artist who has received it Martin Short wears the Order of Canada Pin on his lapel.
I always wondered how he kept such a long ash intact in all the times that he played Thurm.....awesome.
"Impersonation is the highest form of compliment!"
Best snl character ever!
That dangling ash bit in the way he smoked the cigarette...
I liked the bomb that Andy dropped. "Well, I mean I used to."
SNL needs to bring Martin Short back and revive Nathan Thurm as Trump's lead attorney.
that character used to have me in tears laughing.

I'm inspired by Thurm Nathan.... 😊

Yeah it's time to go! Conan. No one ever said. Going to be a sad day i can't get my fix of this interaction and comedy
Waiting on Dave Chappelle and Norm Mcdonald, Letterman would be a delight.
