Aluminum Casting Aquaman's TRIDENT From Scrap Metal (FULL SIZE!)

- Today I'm casting Aquaman's trident in full size from the new movie "Aquaman". I 3D printed the top and bottom parts and used a steel pole I got from the hardware store and welded it together. If you like this video, please give it a thumbs up and hit that subscribe buttom to see more.

I prob wouldn’t sell it for less then $400. This one took me a week to get it made and cleaned up

If your looking for a non stop source for scrap metal to play with, find a plumbing supply shop. They usually have a dumpster or something that us plumber contractors throw water heaters and any other metal in to be recycled. Water heaters and plumbing fixtures are loaded with copper and brass scraps. Easy picking for project metal! And most of them won't care of you ask to take metal.

You got quite a bit of flashing. It's possible that was caused by hydraulic pressure from the molten metal. I've seen big founderies use weights on the flask to prevent the hydraulic pressure from causing flashing.
Still very nice results.
Most likely reason for the flashing, and the easiest solution is to put some weights on the top. Most other castors using Petrobond don't have that problem but these mold boxes were fairly thin giving less resistance to hydraulic pressure.

I hated that the movie showed the trident being made from pouring liquid metal into a stone mold. That is the absolute worst way to make a weapon. It won't have any strength or durability, since the metal wasn't tempered or pit through the rigorous process of forging.
The method shown here is fine for making a replica, but there's no way it could hold up to heavy combat or destructive testing.

Just a thought that might help you out with another casting if u have a metal shaft in if you was to have made a small hole in the casting box you could have put the shaft through that way & still done the pour around it the same way. It's just an idea as that was you could have done them at the same time and not have to of welded the pipe back together. Love the video's BTW 👍
You know I was actually going to do that but I didn’t want to mess up my box so I didn’t haha. I’m tired of building new boxes and welding kinda sounded like fun and gives me more practice since I clearly need it 😂 I’m glad you like the videos 👍🏻 there’s plenty more to come

Yes you can to a point. The burnt sand I put in a separate bucket but you can add oil to make it work again. I reuse all the good sand cause it’s expensive 👍🏻

Kinda small overall compared to the real, dont you think? Couldnt you of made the the 3 tips farther apart and longer - gives the piece a sort of presence when its bigger i think. You got the length down tho.
I prob could have scaled it up a little bigger but who knows 🤷🏻♂️ I went off the model I had and he said it was scaled so who knows. Thanks for the comment though 👍🏻🍺 I might do a mini keychain version though when the movie comes out and have a giveaway 😉

Hey ArtByAdrock, would you mind telling me how much the trident weighed? I’m planning on doing the other trident from the movie and i want an estimate for how much aluminum I’ll need and that will be the basis as to how big of a crucible i will buy, much appreciated!!
An 8kg crucible should be big enough for what you need. I don’t know the weight cause the pole is steel
