Kevin Here. Thanks for all of the comments. It was great fun making the video with Steve. I love my gear and listening & talking about audio! I'll try to answer some of the questions individually.
I was looking for a list of this equipment to help potential buyers make decisions. Couldn't find one in description. You have helped a lot. If it's not too much of a stretch. Many Thanks for your opinions.
Kev, you're like me....a lot of different components to mix and match for different flavors. You may want to check out the Buchardt S400, a game changer for me as far as affordable monitors go.
I was so happy to see this! I'm a year older than you & my journey contains a lot of similarities to yours except my trip to audiophilia was done primarily through Innovative Audio. I spent more time in their Brooklyn Heights store than was healthy!
Now!..That's what I call an audiophile. Kevin is the classic example of the middle of the road audiophile, he's got the spirit and the passion and, without spending a fortune, has set up a very descent system. He's also rather lucky having a wife that appreciates music and sound in general and, is willing to put up with all the hardware in their living room. Well done Kevin, many happy listening sessions from 'Down Under'!
@@bassman4632 Overspending is the lookout of the person who is overspending. Sensible people spend within their budgets. Even if it's way more than most others can afford, including me.
@Joe Home Agreed, a true audiophile will have equipment worth more than their home (or mortgaged their home for it..), they eat tinned food and kraft dinner, have holes in the roof, an old subaru, and piles of old equipment laying around that they just can't part with.... also , bathing is not on their list of daily items, nor shaving, as that takes away time from listening and tinkering. Imagine a hoarders episode, but with music, amps, and speakers laying around...
I must have missed that portion of the program. That just goes to show that even when you think someone needn't be imprisoned, he does in fact require incarceration. I wonder about the rate of rockabilly recidivism. Some crime patterns are hardwired and can't be rehabilitated out of the offender.
Wow! I also really enjoyed this video! I loved hearing and learning about his transitions from his beginning, to present day. Awesome, Awesome, Awesome! 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
This was a great and informative video and Kevin's one take presentation was quite impressive. During the first two thirds of the video Kevin came across as someone who's audiophile journey was driven purely by reading gear reviews. In the end though, when Kevin spoke of the music that causes him to emote and his love of sound - that made me smile. Thanks Kevin, and thanks Steve!
I can relate to him very much. The joy of being careful about spending, researching reasonably price high quality products and the love of music is to me as fun and engaging as playing my piano. You have to meet halfway with the instrument that is delivering the sound. As a beginner audiophile I feel the same way about the simple yet satisfying gear I have so far. Thank you Steve for making these videos.
Perfect long-form interview. I didn't want it to stop. In today's world, many of us don't get to socialize in person with other audiophiles. This system tour is a great way to "connect" with a guy speaking my language with his gear, logic, and philosophy about sound, man. Cheers.
Great illustration that the joy in audio, can come though the journey, just as much as the destination. Love the emphasis, that you can achieve great sound with gear that is not super-expensive.
That was a fantastic video. Great to see someone show the gear they love and switch between, especially when the gear is not priced into the stratosphere. He clearly loves what he hears and that’s a joy to watch. Cheers, Tom
This is a good primer for me as Kevin is a kindred audiophiliated consumer with a sensible spending target. I love his set up. My nerdification profile is still in the low range, but I'm gaining ground slowly but surely with this video series. Nice job, Steve.
Beautiful journey thanks to taking us for the ride your review took me down memory lane when I was15 years old listening to Mac's & phase linniar I'm now 60 yrs and this is still in my soul🎸🎺🎷🎧
Enjoyed this LONG video! Thanks for letting Kevin take the time to tell his story. I'm jealous that he gets to hang out with you, listen to your gear, and pick your brain on a regular basis!
Definatly one of your best interviews stevie. this was a guy who loves his music .no million dollar speakers .and amps . Great stuff .love the rouge audio .😊😊😊
Steve, thx for sharing such a refreshing interview! I admit that I cringed when he said he was “keen on MQA” but otherwise a very relatable video. I have gone full circle with replacing numerous $5K separates with a single digital integrated to finally selling everything and now use only a pair of active bookshelf speakers (with a built-in DAC). I love the simplicity and I enjoy my music much more than I ever have without letting my mind wander to ridiculous “hi-fi” audio equipment purchases that, when I think back to those times, never truly increased my music listening experience and often needed ‘purchase confirmation‘ to justify the spending of untold thousands.
You are so right man . You are so much more down to earth as some of the people I check out as I'm getting back into audio. Got a Sansui 9900z and infinity Kappa 7s and a Dual 612 tt. Love it . Keep the good videos coming.
this is one of my favorite gear reviews ever. And Im an old guy. Not as old as Kevin. Im a 1958 kid, so Im more hip than he is. But damn, it was a kick listening to how he navigates the world of sound reproduction. I liked how he could not recall a fact, then his wife or you prodded with a name and then he was off with a shitload of detail. Im with him on the Klipsch. Thanks for introducing me to your friend.
Kevin, well done my brother. Well said, you summed it up well. Especially your insight at the end about "...how do you know if your stereo is working well? If you play music and want it to continue on and on..." You share more wisdom than that and I thank you for being so open and sharing with us. You have a very nice system and it is sooo good to meet someone who enjoys music from an organic place. It is great to virtually meet you, be blessed my man and keep the music playing!
I enjoyed this great set up,I really got lot of information from this video, Thanks to you both so much👍🔊🔊🔊👏Also it's so nice his wife enjoys it with him🎶🎶
Kevin, I really enjoyed hearing your reasoning behind your purchases. I especially enjoyed your mention of what you consider your “sweet spot” $$$ wise. Thanks!
Thank you Steve and Kevin for this uncommon video. It´s pleasant listen a normal person, I mean a non professional, talks about their setup, sound, music and life. I´m also glad to know that you use some Schiit audio stuff and it seems to works well with your sound system.
Lot of questions about my apartment neighbors and noise control! Fortunately our building is an old solid structure with unusual floor plans (no long common walls) with concrete & dead space between the floors. I love how passionate and down to earth this dude is. I’m just now starting my hi-if journey at 47 years old. I’m only $3500 in, so definitely in the entry level stage, but I see myself on the same trajectory. Cheers, Steve and Kevin! There aren’t many 28-minute YT videos I make it (enthusiastically) all the way through these days.
Agree with many of the comments below. A real pleasure to listen to guys like Kevin, and their passion for the topic is infectious. Thanks for the great session Steve and keep delivering this sort of stuff!
Steve, you captured the essence of a happy audiophile. Kevin and his wife clearly enjoy their system, and Kevin obviously enjoys reading reviews, making well informed buying decisions and bet of all, is happy with his accumulated equipment. That's when this ecosystem is at its best.
Very nice Steve. I love my Sphinx and LS50s, thanks to guys like you and Herb. NOS tubes in it took some work to dial in, but when I found the match it was a completely new hi fi experience. Nice guy this Kevin. More like this please.
