No, my Flower Horn did not die because he was shipped to me through mail..
No, he did not die because he doesn’t have any friends..
No, he did not die because his tank is “boring”.
Yes, some people actually commented that he will die in the condition he’s in.
He is doing super well and eating like a champ! Always excited to see people as they enter the room he is in. He is not stressed one bit. This is how Flower Horns are often housed - In an empty / free-to-swim tank with no other fishes.
Today is his cleaning day.. so that’s what we’ll be doing. Just a quick water cycle to get rid of dirty water and then replenishing with fresh water. I will do another update of him in the near future, so stay tuned! :)

I dont recommended that you rinse the filter like that with tap water.
If you want to clean the filter use the water you take out of the tank in the bucket.
Using freash tap water on the filter kills the beneficial bacteria and can cause harmful ammonia or nitrate spikes.
You also don't need to take that much water out.

You shouldn’t wash the filter sponge in fresh water, Always wash in the same water when you remove the water cycle as your killing the bacteria in the water that kill off the ammonia

Damn , i was hoping to see a comment saying this, thought i was going crazy thinkings this, also and im wrong to think that you should never take out more than 50% of the water to avoid taking to much water with effective live bacteria to consume the waste and food?
Conor EngLith your correct and recommend just 20% of water change, 50% is a lot of water change only if the water are really dirty or cloudy, filter got to be wash in same water to benefits the bacteria to eat the wastes and fight off ammonia, wash with tap water will kill off all the good bacteria in the tank, which take 6 weeks to start over to build up the good bacteria which will prolonged the fish life, seem like he shorted it.
He also should fill up the bucket with fresh tap water with tap safe to remove the chlorine, without it , chlorine can damaging their delicate gill and skin surfaces. And any water-borne bacteria that may be present too, if you want prolonged the fish life please use the tap safe and wash the filter in the same water that you’ve removed and pour down the toilet which could be washed.

rising the filter pads in tap water,completely removing the filters pads,cleaning all the surfaces in the tank at once on the other hand is not safe.

hint from a year long aquarium owner you really dont have to clean the filter all 2 days a week or 2 is fine and maybe look for an pump with a zylinder filter so you can sometimes run it with coal and filterstuff and ceramic rolls ;) and some plants helps the filter a bit and gives your water oxigen ^^

Thank you so much for clarifying to your audience that Flowerhorns HAVE to be alone. Really shows that you care for your animals :D (Also I recommend sinking pellets; prevents them from sucking up air which can make fish sick)

I didn't know flowerhorns/other fish should have their tanks clean that often and so much? we clean ours once every two-three weeks with big fish about 20-25% and its been enough. I thought it was actually bad for them because water and bacteria wouldn't properly cycle
@@caspernoodle7675 You're right. The balance in an aquarium is very delicate and relies heavily on the good bacteria building up. I don't personally know about flowerhorns; maybe they're tough fish that'll survive poor water conditions?

Just a few small tips,
1. you don't want to wash your filter every day, nor do you want to clean the filter right after a water change. This destroys the helpful bacteria in the tank that helps the ammonia and nitrites from getting too high from the excess feces and food in the tank.
2. You also don't want to do that big of a water change for the same reason. The bacteria not only lives in the filter but also in the water and it helps out with keeping everything balanced, and you need to leave enough water for the bacteria to be able to bounce back, this will help keep from an ammonia spike which could burn the gills of the (very beautiful) flowerhorn.
3. I don't suggest putting the tap water straight into your tank for a couple of reasons. Mainly because the antichlorinators you'd use to make the tap/hose water safe for your fish takes a couple of minutes to settle in, and you wouldn't want any leftover chlorine the dechlorinator couldn't catch in time to hurt your fish. But also because it's suggested that you temperature match the water before putting it into the tank as to not stress the fish out from a huge temperature rise/drop and also to keep any heaters you have going from burning out if the water is too cold.
I don't mean this in any harmful way, and if what you're doing is working for you then that's amazing! :D I just wanted to give some tips as to make sure your fish gets the best out of its life.
Anyway, I do enjoy your videos, these are just some things I've noted from my small experience in keeping fish (I've only kept guppies and zebra danios personally, but have done quite a bit of researching and exploring aquarium channels and have noted a few things).

You’re replacing too much water and cleaning filters too often and incorrectly. They should be rinsed out in the old tank water. And I also hope you’re at least trying to match the temp of the new water coming in to the tanks normal temp.

My favorite sushi bar here in san Francisco has a tank with another type of fish that needs an empty tank. It's huge lol they put a wallpaper type think against the backside that looks like tropical coral. Just if you were wanting to "spruce" up without effecting the fishy

Sometimes fish will take in food and spit it out again to soften it. Not something to be worried about unless he's not eating at all, he just likes his food soft! You could try soaking whatever pellets you use in water before feeding him and see how he likes it :)
Edit: Also, don't wash the sponge out with clean water--it kills all the beneficial bacteria that deal with ammonia. If there's a bunch of gunk in it and you absolutely must clean the sponge,, take water from his tank and wish it with that to keep some of the good bacteria.

Love your videos man! Just a tip incase you weren't aware. Try not to clean the filter media to often as you will the tanks beneficial bacteria, but if you do avoid using tap water to clean the filter instead just swish it around in a bucket of pre existing tank water.
