      True, it wasn't easy, most of the time it was closer to 16C, but when it dropped down to 11 it started to wake me up. On the other hand, this shelter definitely saves your life when it is -30C, it requires less wood to stay warm than any other shelter I know. Thank you for reaching out!

    The setup that you made imo was paired for a siberian fire. You would have heat flow under your bows, and you would not have needed the plastic as a protector. Your aluminum sheet would direct the heat upon you. And the fire would burn at least 6 hours for a continuous sleep..Its funny but not many doing these winter survival videos use a siberian fire setup I think its the most eficient source of heat for cooking and heating ones domain.just my 2 cents, overall great video

    How far is the fire from the shelter? Seemed like embers were drifting toward plastic, which is highly flammable.

    • @SurvivalSchoolHouse
      @SurvivalSchoolHouse  2 роки тому +2

      About 3', it mainly will burn little pin holes if the wind blows hard but that's rare, when embers reach the plastic they have cooled and bounce off. If definitely could burn a hole if flame is on it, but flame up of the plastic doesn't spread because the plastic isn't balled up and can't feed of itself.

      An enclosed shelter will hold in more heat with your material than nothing for sure, but the reason for the transparent material is for the easier reflection of heat from the mylar (space blanket) material. Truck tarps are heavy duty which would still make a great shelter.

    Medium strength wind defeats this shelter.

    • @SurvivalSchoolHouse
      @SurvivalSchoolHouse  3 роки тому

      Absolutely, wind can be a problem with some heat loss from the fire however, at least the shelter is enclosed and will protect from additional heat loss from convection.

      It's a great shelter not trying to criticize it at all. I've lived in the Oklahoma woods for the last 4 months and wind is my number one enemy. It comes up unexpectedly and destroys my shelters.

      @@iwalkenquicksand For sure! Wind howls out there and is one of the biggest enemies in any environment. What shelters work for you out there to combat the wind?

      I've went with a simple diamond tarp set up over my hammock lately. It's tied off at the two trees my hammock is attached to and then tied off to some deeply embedded stakes on the other two corners. It takes some maintaining but works as well as anything else I've tried.

    heat rises so put the thermometer lower where you laying down I bet you $1000 it's not the same!! I'm out

      You're right, that is one of the reasons for the bed, it's definently colder down at the floor than up higher, I didn't notice much difference from where I was at compared to the thermometer, probably around a couple degrees.

    Try making a shelter with something besides giant sheets of plastic smh😡

    • @SurvivalSchoolHouse
      @SurvivalSchoolHouse  3 роки тому +1

      I know, it's a great concept if you are able to bring the materials in, a lot of people in Canada and cold environments would bring that as a tent instead because it is warmer than a tent. I'll show more natural shelters that I have used down the road.

    Remove the unnecessary music (you're in the nature and we all can listen to our music if we want to. But we're interested in the naked sound of nature, not the music), talk less, show more of your unique skills (not the ones which everybody else also shows) and I'm sure you're going to have many more subscribers bc I believe you're really a nice guy.
