WOW I really miss Jerry Reed. What a great actor, a really great driver in real life and on the screen, and probably one of the top ten guitarists of all time.
Cabovers bring back memories here in the USA. There use to be a mix of cabovers & conventional cabs around until the law increased the length limit which eliminated the need for cabovers to pull trailers that exceeded a certain length. Then later on, cabovers phased out & more conventional cabs took their places. Today the only cabovers I see around are fire trucks, trash trucks, yard trucks, crane trucks, cement pumper trucks, cement mixer trucks with the cab big enough for only the driver, & non semi trucks like those Isuzus.
Cab-over engine tractors tended to be a bit of a PITA. the driver sat over the hot engine (and if a GMC Detroit Diesel, nicknamed the screamin' jimmy, a loud one) and quite close to the solid front axle, catching every bump in the road.
Good sounding engine the truck variations weren't the best but the military versions can be monster my dad made a believer just the other day old fella put a military version in a 70s model peterbilt and converted it to straight mechanical and blew the doors off the truck my dad drives which is rated at 500+ going up hill at that had it juiced to i think 750

I was born in 78 and from what the surviving hippies that were around when I was about 18 20 always talked about speed balling. But dawn I wish I could have one of those cats from the trailer
Those hippies must not have taught you how to spell.... saw some nice old CARS on the trailer, but no CATS unless you wanted a knit CAT cap like Peter Fonda's. :)

I call Bullshit on letting the air out of the truck tires. That would have taken them forever to do plus reset the tire beads and refill all 8 tires on the tandems. Especially using the truck air compressor. Would have been easier too take the top 3 cars off the trailer and reload them on the other side of the bridge
Technically back then it would have been split rims and they had inner tubes so beading probably wouldn’t be an issue... getting your head blown off would
grgl140 well yeah it would literally take all day.. between not enough tank storage and the compressor keeping up. this was actually one of the stupidest parts in the movie lol and they are Daytons so it’s hard to tell but the steers are tubeless so they could be too
May I ask where this clear and crisp image/video come from ? I have an old vhs and it is far from good compared to this. If there is a remastered edition on dvd ...I take it !
Jerry Reed always look like he on a whole lot of Speed or a very lot of Coke. They not invented Meth yet. Don't know about his driving tk skills? Stunt men do biggest part of that. I never heard of this movie before must went directly to drive inn theater's back in early 70s.
It's a V8 903 Cummins most Semis have inline six cylinders a much deeper sound. The v8s have a chug chug sound, Then you have the V8 8v92 or 318s they are a very high rpm engine and there two strokes they sound mean and bad ass older Detroits

abe, I certainly enjoy seeing Jerry Reed in this movie, mostly because he's playing straight drama - no comedy. Very rare.

Brings back memories. Remember when this was filmed, in and around Milton Ontario.
Yes. That low bridge wasn't really a low bridge. On HWY 27. I'm until last year it looked the same as it did over 40 years ago .
I’ve never heard of this movie until now...would love to see the whole thing.

It's a fucking Ukrainian language
How many of us where sick to our stomach to see all that muscle go to waste even if they where all choped up as race cars
In 1978 no one cared.
I saw a Pete cabover a few weeks ago

Releasing a trailer like that must wreck the air and brake lines.
Those tyres where off the rims, never get those reinflated
Haha at least not that quick.

why not let the air out of the cars tires instead, on the trailer.

Considering the height of a truck tyre and the one of a car tyre you already have the answer.

Peter Fonda and a young Jerry Reed from Smokey and the Bandit.
8:16 - not a Chevelle, but a rare '69 Canadian Beaumont.
True but still a Chevy.
BJ & The Bear had the Aerodyne cabover...otherwise same truck
That's just what I was thinking
This truck was used in season 1 of bj and the bear then they got a 79 kw aerodyne for season 2
Jerry Reed is driving another kenworth

Yes

Am I seeing things or is that BJ McKay's truck?🤔
Same model. Different paint scheme.
The area around the BJ truck's headlights were white. Aerodyne has to do with the shape and not necessarily the model number.
