Thank you so much for the video. I'm into landscape photography which means I would require a wide angle lens (16mm or below) but in general, kit-lenses are 18-55 only. I'm also into film-making and the wide angle lens would help in that too. Another thing I'm concerned about is the camera capability for the video recording like a live viewfinder, AF points, and stabilization. I've heard that Nikon images are good but not for video recording, The opposite goes for canon. Please suggest a camera (or setup to buy wide angle lens separately)under 35000-40000.

manish rathore Thank you! For me, this was the ideal way to go because choosing focal lengths is primarily decided on the distance in the real world. The rest is kind of secondary. Of course, if you have all the distance available to you and you have all the lenses then it is your visual choice to make. I’m glad you appreciate it.

Hi Gorky, after watching your video on 50mm lens I use canon80 D with 50mm F1.8 lens for portraits, it gives excellent results. But it is difficult to use it from a distance in case capturing any program/ event etc. So now I am looking for a good lens which could zoom as well as can be used for portraits and give shallow depth of field similar to 50mm. Is there any such zoom lens for portraits for canon cameras?

Ahmad Asif Asif as 18-55 lens is variable focal length lens so it has complex lens arrangement so its aperture i quite low i.e. 3.5 means low light entrance while 35 or 50 lens is simple fixed focal length lens so its aperture is quite wide i.e 1.8 or 1.4 means more light so finally for low light photos or bokeh effect these are more suited.

Hi, this is Rishabh from GMax Studios. The 35mm would give you a more accurate rendition of the 50mm focal length considering the 1.5x crop factor on your sensor. As a beginner myself, I'd recommend a prime lens over a zoom. The wide aperture will make your subjects look sharper, and that would motivate you to continue on your journey as a photographer. Also, a fixed focal length helps you be more mindful of your surroundings and compose shots better because of the lack of a zoom. The long focal length lenses in my opinion help if you're out to shoot sports, photojournalism or wildlife.

Sir, you videos are very informative. With reference to this video please clarify the distortion these lens make. For example if half torso shot is made with 35mm won't it be a slightly distorted than a 50 mm? And same question for a 85mm.

What I learnt that in a tele lens barrel distortion (where the middle of the photo gets sunk in) usually takes place and in wide lens pincushion distortion (where middle of the photo bulges out) takes place until and unless we stand at a certain distance from portrait subject. I think this thing can be corrected by practising more.

What I learnt that in a tele lens barrel distortion (where the middle of the photo gets sunk in) usually takes place and in wide lens pincushion distortion (where middle of the photo bulges out) takes place until and unless we stand at a certain distance from portrait subject. I think this thing can be corrected by practising more.
