  • The local train between Brenner / Brennero in Italy & Innsbruck in Austria is an important connection for those who travel with local trains between Italy & Austria. Apart from that, this is a very scenic train journey in the Italian & Austrian Alps linking Italy with northern Europe.

Thanks for an informative video. We visit Austria every year (from UK) and have driven the Brenner once but next time it will be the Innsbruck to Brenner train for us! Thanks again.

Gorgeous. Sehr schön. Très beau. It's good to know that there are some airline style seats on this train. Need to board early and find them!

From Brennero with local trains you can also go to pozzallo in Sicily 😂😂😂 (if you’re crazy like me)

You're not the only one who's crazy, I might be able to do that as well.

Excellent video, and very helpful in practical terms too. I'm looking forward to making a day trip to Innsbruck by rail this spring while vacationing in Also Adige/Südtirol, and this video really whets my appetite for the trip. I'm happy to know that these trains will continue to follow the traditional route. I think most people would greatly prefer stunning Alpine scenery to the dark interior of a long tunnel, even if this route takes longer -- I certainly would!

I think you can say something for both. Faster travel times make the train a better competitor for other modes of transportation however the sceinic route is also worth a lot to many people. If I would be travelling for example in one go from The Netherlands or Denmark to Italy, I prefer a faster route.

No especially freight trains will use the tunnel too. A long bypass tunnel near Innsbruck was built more then 20 years ago only for freight trains and this bypass tunnel is part of the Brenner tunnel. So only local trains over the old tracks as you said. There is only one Train a Railjet wich is running from Bozen/Bolzano to Vienna via Brenner. Trains from Italy to Vienna run via Carinthia not Tyrol.
