Its been a while since we have seen anything new from Wltoys and I think that may be because they are slowly becoming irrelevant in the Cheap RC Car market!
The Wltoys 144001 used to be the go to cheap RC buggy that was perfect for getting people into the RC hobby on a tight budget but since prices started increasing due to increasing popularity and shipping difficulties they slowly started to lose their fan base.
Epic cars like the MJX hyper GO range, HBX and Rlaarlo are now the kings in the budget area of the RC Hobby which makes sub par Wltoys vehicles like this incredibly hard to justify as a new purchase.

I mean... TOYS is part of the branding and they seem to have gone from hobby grade to purely toy grade and don't seem to want to change.

The 10428A from back in the day, is maybe my favorite car in my R/C fleet, that includes loads of expensive cars too.
I bought their little mini 1/28 scale ones last year and they been fun, work surprisingly well outside on the path / road as well. I wouldn't get anything else from them though. I have 4 MJX and they have been solid.
WlToys has really blown it these last few years. It’s a bummer. They got me started in the cheap RC hobby with the 124018.
At the time of writing this the Hyper go 16208 is on the Banggood for 78 quid. Brushless, lipo, upgradable, adjustable, 3s, metal this, stronger that, fast, and some bits even have oil in them. I'd say that's probably worth the extra 13 sheets over this.

hello, do you think you could look into the hsp wolverine?, its a really fast budget basher that has alot of aftermarket potential if that makes sense.
I think you're right. They probably had parts that they don't use and just Frankensteined something together to make a quick buck. MJX is killing them in quality and maybe they just decided to throw in the towel. Who knows? It kinda resembles the 284161 only way cheaper. I'd rather have MJX anyway.
In today’s market there are so so many companies that are putting out decent RC vehicles that are pretty good and budget friendly and with WLToys just putting out complete garbage nowadays it makes no sense. This is the time when they need to step their game up but it seems like they’ve gone the “ Department Store “ route rather than the “Hobby Grade” route?🤷🏻♂️ love the review brother.👍👍💯💯🙂
There is just too many budget friendly options that are a way better deal than this thing. WLtoys needs to step it up!

I don't think they'll go bust or anything, but I definitely think they've lost their good reputation..
They've actually been around longer than most people realise & they've released quite a few different models over the years, I always liked the look of their 1/8 HPI Apache desert buggy copy from about 10 years ago but they weren't actually that good & they're impossible to get.
Their cheap, fast & durable 1/12, 1/14 & 1/18 buggies were their crowning achievements imho...
You simply couldn't go faster for the money when they came out.!! 👍 👍 👍
I've had a couple of them & I was pretty happy with them at the time, they're all in the spares box now though because they're not exactly a long lasting product.! 😉
I remember paying £34 for the 1/18 one (I had the 550 & the 380 motor version), £55 for the 1/14 one & £85 for the 124016 brushless version.!
The 124016 is definitely my favourite, it's actually still in decent running condition & I still use it occasionally.!
The prices have gone up by around 40% in some cases which immediately makes them lose to the competition.!
I doubt there's anything they can do to reclaim their cheap RC top spot other than a complete company shake up & a cash investment for their R & D department.... They'd better hurry up before what's left of their reputation is gone though.!!
The problem is innovation.!
They haven't innovated a single thing, they've only ever copied other manufacturers like LC Racing, downgraded the materials to be just good enough & changed a few cosmetics (often with less than tasteful results)😉, which isn't necessarily a terrible thing as long as the quality is still decent & the price is low.!
Both of those things are clearly absent in their current offerings with more & more examples of them cutting corners to save a few pennies.. FRICTION SHOCKS IN 2024 FFS.!🤯😲
MJX, Rlaarlo & the long time budget king HBX are wiping the floor with them.!
FTX (many of which have actually been HBX models) are probably the best budget option because of their HUGE range, reasonable prices, quality, performance, upgradability, decent durability & fantastic parts support.!!
No, it's not looking good for Wltoys....
Who knows, they could blow all our minds next week by releasing an awesome lineup of models that are cheaper, faster & more durable than the competition for loads less money.... They've done it before.!!

Some excellent points there mate. The cheap/budget rc market is so insanely competitive and for that reason I just can’t see them making a good enough come back. They ruined their reputation a while back and a lot of that is not listening to customers/reviews. Whilst rlaarlo and mjx aren’t perfect they are excellent at listening to their customers and feedback which is why they are doing incredible things at the moment and can only see them getting even bigger and better. Wltoys are over IMO they just can’t compete anymore

I really hope WLToys sticks around... I've been happy enough with their products in the past, mainly because they offered good band for the buck and helped keep costs for R/C vehicles across the board reasonable. Just look at what an equivalent model from Traxxas or one of Horizon's vendors costs these days... YIKES! LOL!
I agree problem is things started to go downhill when they increased prices far too much for some of their older models. People quickly found alternatives 😕

Maybe we were wrong about them all the while. They are indeed toys as their name suggest and were never meant to be hobby grade. Lol
Looks like they are focused on making kids toys for younger children. Maybe their sales in China are up. Maybe the production cost wasn't matching the profit. Who knows?

It’s a shame to see what has happened to Wltoys. They had such a nice run a few years ago. Now they’re not even competitive with mjx and others. I still enjoy my 144001 but it seems like that was their peak.

This thing looks like it's designed to help MJX etc sell.. I saw the mjx for £85 Inc vat on banggood the other day.. yeah £20 more, 3s, brushless...
Everything looks like a bad deal after the $70 brushless 1/16 scale I got on Amazon. I don’t necessarily recommend it because it does advertise oil filled shocks when it doesn’t have them.
I got scammed too, the shocks just jammed up lol
The 124008 and 010 are great durable cars at a fantastic price

I picked up 2x 124008 Wltoys from Ali express for 57 pounds each, 1 has a new Phat bodies shell with chunkier wheels, the other original shell and stock... that model is very durable, more than quick enough on 3s and at that price who cares about bashing them around, my little boy loves both and he races with his mate. if WLToys had developed that road with durability I, sure they would be doing better,,,, or is that Rlaarlo (which I believe is the same parent company).. could be that WLTOYS is literally going to be toy rc cars and Rlaarlo is the quality, hobby grade stuff? could be wrong, I'm just guessing..
8 years ago msybe this wouldve been a steal. 2024? Ehhhhh might as well just pay extra and stick to one of the good Wltoys, rlaarlo, hbx or even a Grom

Wow what a disappointment. I got the same radio with their v2 "A" version of the 915 boat 😄the trim knobs are fake and only function as push buttons, and there is such a massive dead spot and delay with that radio and 2 in 1 ESC, I replaced it and chucked them in the bin. I usually will keep spare radios in case, but yeah.. nah. Not this one

It usually is scale, car style, and model number but they did it a bit weirdly.
More sense would be:
14 - scale
B - buggy style
01 - number one

The numbers make sense. The 284131 for example is 1/28 scale 4 wheel drive and 131 is the model. 124007 is 1/12 scale 4 wheel drive and 007 is the model.

LOL you are so right you cant win the fanboys will come out and attack if you have anything critical of their brand. I know its twice the price but the new Mojave Grom is way better its not very fast at 22mph but it is so much better than this its worth the price.
yes 100%. Biggest issue for us in the UK with anything horizon is stock. We are months behind everyone else with the actual cars and parts are a joke too.

Not very good for wltoys so far it's a shame it's not 3s brushless system and oil shocks I was thinking of buying it but not now I'm better off buying the hyper go monster truck much better they not going to sell that well the speed is bad for 3s 😢😢

Wow, not great at all. A few bucks more you can buy the MJX Hyper Go 16208. Miles ahead of this. In the budget world of Rc cars MJX are by far the leaders. I won't be surprised if one day they even dominate over the bigger names. They only getting better with each car.

Wltoys was always junk. The ones that were at all decent were bootleg clones of something else.
