I have two 507 jackets coming tomorrow from the 50s. So excited to see them tomorrow. Trying to find any content possible on them, I stumbled on this video, thanks so much for making this! I LOVE IT!
NICE! thanks to this, I can pinpoint my dad's old 507 jacket to after 1955 and before 1957 - I guess that leaves 1956! :) It's the real deal.. No tag, just the stitching were the tag was. Red tag big E has the "R" on the front. lol It's in the prettiest condition ever. not a tear nor hardly a fade. Did he ever wear it? Well, I did! I remember wearing it to jr high dress down day in 1966. What a great video. Thank you.
@@denindenim The buttons on the pockets are the most legible. Two digit codes? Pretty sure it reads "5 blank 6' or it might be "5 blank 5". I need a jeweler's loupe. This is such a small jacket as dad didn't break 120 lbs on his heaviest day. From pit to pit it's 17 inches. However when I measure the waist it's 15 inches if buttoned.
I love this stuff man… If you ever do a documentary about American denim, or just a history of it, and how it influenced things in Japan and Europe… Levi’s, Lee, wrangler, etc. and now the Japanese brands that are doing their upscale versions… It’s so interesting, It’s really a part of history… of everywhere.. and you’re never too old to wear denim… Thank you so much keep it going🙏✌🏼👍🏼
Very cool video flick. Picked up a new trucker at the Levi's store today. $89 bucks plus tax. Sure it ain't made in America anymore but its still quality and as badass as it ever was. I wore a 70's for many years in Alaska. Its retired. On another note, the Levi's joint was just a few steps away from the joint that sells Doc Martens. Coincidence? I think not. 501's go hand in hand with Doc 1460's! Mahalo!
I seem to remember an unusual denim jacket from the 60's. Not sure of the brand. It was a type II style that had a zipper instead of the metal buttons. I can't seem to find anything like it on line./ Any suggestions? Thanks
I really like your reviews. I bought myself a 507XX LVC in a light ...break water color, I can't figure out if it looks like a real washed jacket, or does it look unnaturally old?
Are the vintage ones about the same as the modern version of the type 2 Levi’s? As far as fit?? And also, I was looking at a Levi’s denim jacket type three, in a slim fit, and it has a real leather patch on the back under the collar… Does that signify premium denim or is that something else? Thank you so much for your help.. and a great video.✌🏼🙏
I love the 501s but the problem is they ride too high… 11 or 12 inches is up to my belly button and I prefer some thing that sits on my hips like the 511 or 527 boot cut… Does Levi’s make a 501 in a more modern rise? Because I like the way they fit and flare slightly at the bottom… The other problem is they don’t make them shorter than 30 inch inseam‘s… And that really pisses me off… They have something against short people? I can only find my inseam length on the 511s which is fine because I love the fit… But I also love the boot cut and they don’t make them in a 28 or 29 inch inseam… And when the 511’s are available… They’re usually sold out… It took me almost 10 years to find the 511 jeans in my size inseam because they’re never available even on Amazon… It took that long for me to find jeans that fit me perfectly… That’s ridiculous so I sent a message to Levi’s… There are millions of Asians and Mexicans, who are shorter than 5 foot seven… And they need inseams of 27, 28, 29…😢
Why are the pockets on repros 2 cm lower unlike the originals or early lvc 507xx??? On originals the pocket edge is on heighth of fold stitching ,the newer not. This really anoying me.Even the Bronson made is more correct.
I ordered the Levis 507XX by LVC, because it is the best type 2 jacket for me and i love Levis, but i sent the jacket back, because the pockets are lower than on the original 507XX jackets from the 50's. That small detail gives the jacket a very different look, which i don't like. I can not understand, why the pockets are 2 cm lower. That makes no sense for me. The pocket position from the old Levis 507XX jackets are perfect.
Nice review and study, you are missing a good movie with “maybe” a Type II, ‘The Wrestler’, Micky Rourke sports it couple times. Not 100% percent sure its a Type II but doesn’t look like a Type III
Love your channel but try being less of a LVC fanboy, and I mean that with love because they’re not actually THAT accurate to the originals. The ‘53 Type II the pockets are low like the 506 probably so LVC wouldn’t have to retool for a different jacket. Huge example look at the shapes of pocket flaps on all LVC jackets and they don’t look much like originals, like the 507 has slightly rounded corners on the flaps. They made the 557 horribly wrong pocket flap shape
I’d say go side by side originals to LVC and other brands, look at the shapes of things and positioning relative to each other, you’ll find there are more accurate actual “replicas” than LVC. I would’ve gone LVC but for the price it’s not even that accurate of a replica
I’m hoping to get to cover other brands on the channel. The history parts are my main passion. It’s funny you brought up the pocket height. LVC switched it around 2002 and some people hate it.
@@denindenimi love your passion man I’m sorry I was a downer!! I came back to apologize and say that your knowledge of LVC is amazing! Where I’m coming from is trying to find a good replica and I can’t find too many 🤣
@@denindenimI think I was wrong to say that you’re a fanboy, I’m sorry. Keep on doing what you’re doing! Check out some small details on original examples and I find it’s completely different from what companies are offering unfortunately
Hi I have ordered two Levis 507XX denim jackets rigid. One in size 38 and one in size 40, but i am not sure, which to keep. I am 5 '9, my weight is 154lbs and my chest is 37. The size 38 is a little bit big and the fit is good. The size 40 is very big. I am not sure, how the size 38 will fit me after a warm/hot soak. I don't know, if the jacket will be to short or small. Is it better to soak it cold or with warm water??? And second: i am also not sure, how the size 40 will fit me after a hot soak. The jacket can still be big or to long. Can you help me please?????
I would wear the 38 rigid. Let the it form to the body. Takes about 60 wears. The 40 you have room to tub soak. If you tub soak the 38 then wear it to stop the shrinkage but I would wear it rigid. But remember rigid dye stains what it touches so wear old washable shirts with it and don’t sit on white couches.
@@denindenim Thank you very much for your answer!!!!!!! Why do you prefer, to wear the size 38 in rigid??? Have you soaked a 507XX in hot water before??? And how much shrinking can i expect, if i soak the size 40 in hot water??? Only one size???? And last question: how do you wash your denim jackets and jeans?? Cold or warm??.Inside out or not???
Shrinkage is about two sizes. You want the water warmer. It helps with the dye and you don’t need to freeze. All my shrinking tests tell me denim wants to shrink about the same size but when you wear it wet then it stops the shrinking to your body.
I have my moms Type II blanket lined from her biker days in the 50’s. She even had her own Harley.
These are the stories I love to hear about. Awesome stuff!
Happy to see you reference “Badlands”, was the first and only movie I watched where I ever really wanted a Type II.
Well done Den! I have a repro 1953 lvc 507, haven’t worn it yet… still just appreciate looking at it raw, so much culture in this one jacket

I’m still researching to find the best style and fit..so many different options and brands.. but the vintage looks are still the koolest..
Just picked up the black one this season to match the 501’s. Can’t wait to see which one they give us next season.

All around great information, thanks !
Nice info man!
Can’t wait for Type III review 🧐
Next week, unless the new catalog drops. Love your avatar.
inb4 levi's releases the type iv
It exists. Made and Crafted line. I’m doing a small episode on it.

I'm just a Type🧥3 kinda guy...🤘🏼💯✔️
I’m a Volkswagen type 3 guy. I rock my type 1 mostly, my wife and kid type 2

I think it is meant to look like it survived a hurricane or an A-bomb. More wear and tear than just a normal fade. I dig it.
love badlands
What's the Original prices on these? In Uk they sell for whopping 260pounds .
In 1953, the 507xx jacket sold for around $3.50.

That’s a cool detail. I’ll try and include in in the compilation.
Bronson are super cool,I ordered the M 38 and it fit me like an L,after I washed in hot water it shrank considerable and now it fits me perfect

Great video, I thought only the Type 3 was known as the trucker jacket. Is that false, are all Levi’s denim jackets trucker jackets.
The Type 1 was originally called the Rider. Trucker is what we call it in retrospect.
I’m a skinny size S/36 chest.. should I get this jacket in a S or an M? (STF)
they run a little big (as long as it wasn't Shrunk too much) so your chest would fit.
