Firstly an insightful video. I am English living in Las Mercedes Asunción Paraguay for over seven years. I love the lifestyle and safety. I went to London a few months ago, and I felt nervous, and the police seemed too scared to upset anyone. The standard of living and the policing here in Asunción is wonderful. I am definitely staying for good. Also the healthcare I have received here was first class.

I am from Paraguay. Welcome! At first I thought you were an Aussie but then of course later you mentioned New Zealand. Paraguay does not have a seashore and therefore it is impossible to compete with the beauty that a country like Nicaragua offers. But there are beautiful beaches in Brazil, in Camboriu and other cities, and also Buenos Aires and Bariloche in Argentina with their European influence and ambiance are readily accessible,
Gracias amigo. You guessed right, I am Aussie. I met my NZ wife there and then moved to NZ where we lived since 2009. I just say NZ because it's easier. Thanks for your insights and weather advice. Very good video. As a nicaraguan I can confirm the energy costs are high. We only turn the A/C on when we absolutely cannot stand the heat😅. My best wishes for you guys in Paraguay.
Thanks for the message. It's tough with the energy costs considering how warm Nicaragua can get. Another challenge (not just in Nicaragua, but much of Sth America) is the way building practices have evolved. The original adobe houses were well insulated against heat but when cinder block came along the building techniques remained the same, however modern materials behave differently. So now most modern construction is like a heat storage battery device. It absorbs the heat of the day and releases it at night. So the need for air-con is increased. Once we're more settled here I am going to build some structures with alternative materials that will perform much better in terms of insulation from the heat. We have to find a way to minimise or eliminate the need for air-con. I hope things are going well for you in Nicaragua. In many ways my favourite place and people in the world.

I've been doing my research on Nicaragua for nearly a year now. I plan to move abroad in the next few years with my wife. Nicaragua is still my #1 choice, but I'm considering a few other options and I'm definitely going to start doing more research on Paraguay as well to see if it would suit our lifestyles :)
A trip to Nicaragua is never wasted. I remember bobbing around in Laguna De Apoyo in a car tyre thinking 'this is as good as it gets.' Our favourite town was Granada. Like a movie set, so beautiful.
Still learning. We find it slightly more challenging in Paraguay due to the Guarani but we will get there. It's awesome that Guarani has been preserved. We are very proud of Paraguay.
Very informative video. I've never been to Paraguay, but I've been to Nicaragua several times and always want to go back; nevertheless, what he says about Nicaragua is spot on. Getting things done, like getting a car, can be challenge. For some reason the government there loves to make thing overly complicated.
That’s your point of view,for some people likes others don’t ,bottom line is money you can live happy in a shack or you can live in nice house ,car service people,there is nothing like home.

Honestly, yes, I think it could become boring. Especially when you compare it to places like Brazil and Mexico. Beaches, culture, bars, nightlife etc. But, apart from beaches, you can access all that Asuncion and Encarnacion. Not to the same degree as the others though. But here's the thing, I think it comes down what's most important to you. Remember, Brazil, Argentina etc are just next door, so Paraguay is a great place to be based if you are in a position where you can be mobile. Personally, we think that everything has a trade-off. It's just a matter of what you are willing to trade.
Yes - they are very clever with their stonework. 🙂 They are building stone walls and working on the driveway in front of our house and it's very interesting to watch the progress!

This was a particularly good video! I have to admit Nicaragua sounds really great. But, unfortunately with the current political climate, one of the most important factors is probably - which country would be a better place to be during the next pandemic, which I think is on the agenda. How was Nicaragua during the pandemic? Any chance they would mandate the 'shots'? (By the way Doug Casey doesn't like the government in Nicaragua at all). I had a strong sense of peace with you living in Paraguay, even though it sounds like it's missing the 'wow' factor. Peace would be worth it's weight in gold during turbulent times which it sounds like could be about to occur.
Nicaragua is certainly a beautiful country. We weren't there during the drama's so can't comment about their response; but Nicaragua has reportedly implemented a requirement that in order to gain residence you require a c#vid jab. Any chance that they'd further mandate the shots? IMO of course there's a chance. There's more things that I could say about this but when speaking about this topic I select my words carefully but let me say this...I recommend researching the history of any country you're thinking about settling in, particularly in regard to their human rights track record. However, be careful who you listen to. Regarding Nica, at present the most active expat vlogger there is a deceitful, self serving blowhard who is disguising several of his agendas under the guise of 'free advice'. Much of what he says is factually BS and he is not what he purports to be. In regard to Paraguay, I'm with you...peace is worth its weight in gold, in fact, it's worth more. And yes, it doesn't have the wow factor of Mexico, Nicaragua, Brazil; those who have eyes to see know that everything comes with a price, including the 'wow factor'. We're happy to give up the wow to avoid the rest that comes with it. That seems to be the attitude of Paraguay also. This is a great central place from which you can access neighboring countries if you want to access some 'wow'.

Thanks for watching! It's a two year temporary residency that you then renew to a ten year permanent residency. It's residency not citizenship so you still keep whatever passport you have. 🙂
@@ADirtCheapLifeParaguay that's great news, I'm seriously looking at this, I agree with you and Radu in your other video, Klaus Schwab needs to live with nothing and be happy first, walk the walk. Places like Paraguay are the best alternative to live a better life away from our Western countries that they're ruining fast, since I woke up in 2020. I also work remotely so it would be a great alternative.
For groceries etc we have a breakdown on adirtcheaplife.com under 'Life in Paraguay.' We are situated outside Asuncion (near Caacupe). We pay aprox $270 USD per month for a nice 2 bedroom unit. Our last power bill was about $60 USD for a month but that was excessive. Because we are in a unit we have to run air-con, which is our biggest power guzzler. When we build we will ensure our place is well insulated, ventilated with a pool. Then it will be way cheaper. I can't comment about mortgages because we don't have experience with that. You can buy a decent car for around $3.5k USD. Public transport is crazy cheap. I hope that helps.

We just spent 11 months in my wife’s home country of Nicaragua. We love cool weather so tried Matagalpa, up in the mountains. Still too hot for us. We have now been in Xela, Guatemala for 2 months. We are at almost 8000 feet. Low 70s for the high and 45-50 for the lows…..we LOVE IT ! Are there any cool weather cities in Paraguay we should consider ? Thank you !
Xela, yes we've spent time there. Nice part of Guatemala. Regarding cooler parts of country, basically south is cooler, north is much hotter. We are in Caacupe area, which is a nice in-between. You've also been in Nicaragua, cool. We loved Granada. I'm heading back to Guatemala just for a few days. Only Guatemala City unfortunately. Thanks for tuning into our travels.
After 11 years of visiting Nicaragua, this is probably my last trip. Not as friendly as it used to be. Yes, it's cheap, yes it's beautiful, but I'm bored of the food and the locals always wanting something from you. My property value hasn't changed since day 1. On the plus side, the medical clinic is free.
That's interesting insight. We did find the same thing with locals in some parts, particularly on the coast. From what I hear it's a global trend. I have heard slight murmurs of it here but mostly the locals are happy to see us here. But I'm not taking that for granted. We're focussed on becoming as integrated as possible. Living in bubbles just set people apart, and in the long run I don't know if that works out well.
It's so hard to answer that question. The property market here is all over the place. A rough estimate would be to start at around $60k USD but you could find wildly fluctuating prices on both sides of that figure. Depends on many factors of course. And remember, when you way modest house in Paraguay you really will get a modest house.
@NM-mc4rj they think everone is plotting against them. Any gatherings the Police shows up, they make up whatever charge they like and you can end up in jail.
There's many variables that would impact on the answer, that's why I said we would do a video. How much money, which country do you want to transfer to, what country are you a citizen of, do you have a cedula...and many more considerations. It's not a simple question and so we can't just give you a simple answer right this minute.
In Paraguay Many people home school and vaccination is not enforced. Regarding Nica, I can't tell you what the letter of the law dictates but again, I know people who homeschool without vax. You could always ask Scott Miller as he claims to know everything but I would take it with a large pinch of salt.
We almost purchased 2 Spanish Colonial houses (1 bedroom each) for $32k USD in Granada. That was a very good price but that's the kind of thing you can find. And I am talking about beautiful, original architecture.

@@raindances3310 Tough choices, both great for different reasons. You could always do a stopover in Nica on your way to Paraguay. But IMO you have to either live in a place for at least a few months or take the advice of someone who has. Good luck with your research. Paraguay is definately no longer a secret. Our hope is that the info we provide will encourage those who are suited to this path whilst equally discouraging those who aren't up to it. This life is not for everyone, and we always try to show the reality rather than sell the dream.

Guarani is easier to learn then Spanish, particularly if you have had some exposure to Pacific languages, ie Maori, Samoan. @@ADirtCheapLifeParaguay

Paraguay has very hot and humid summers (think Texas). There are no cool cities in Paraguay as there are no highlands.

After 11 years of visiting Nicaragua, this is probably my last trip. Not as friendly as it used to be. Yes, it's cheap, yes it's beautiful, but I'm bored of the food and the locals always wanting something from you. My property value hasn't changed since day 1. On the plus side, the medical clinic is free.
That's interesting insight. We did find the same thing with locals in some parts, particularly on the coast. From what I hear it's a global trend. I have heard slight murmurs of it here but mostly the locals are happy to see us here. But I'm not taking that for granted. We're focussed on becoming as integrated as possible. Living in bubbles just set people apart, and in the long run I don't know if that works out well.
What’s the price for a modest home with a hectare of land in Paraguay?
It's so hard to answer that question. The property market here is all over the place. A rough estimate would be to start at around $60k USD but you could find wildly fluctuating prices on both sides of that figure. Depends on many factors of course. And remember, when you way modest house in Paraguay you really will get a modest house.
Sadly Nicaragua aint what it used to be. Paranoid Govt not worth the hassle.

There's many variables that would impact on the answer, that's why I said we would do a video. How much money, which country do you want to transfer to, what country are you a citizen of, do you have a cedula...and many more considerations. It's not a simple question and so we can't just give you a simple answer right this minute.
Are child immunizations/vaccines mandatory in both countries? If so, is homeschooling a legal option for any kind of vaccine exemptions?
In Paraguay Many people home school and vaccination is not enforced. Regarding Nica, I can't tell you what the letter of the law dictates but again, I know people who homeschool without vax. You could always ask Scott Miller as he claims to know everything but I would take it with a large pinch of salt.

When you say a Colonial home in Nicaragua isn't very expensive, what price range are you thinking of?
We almost purchased 2 Spanish Colonial houses (1 bedroom each) for $32k USD in Granada. That was a very good price but that's the kind of thing you can find. And I am talking about beautiful, original architecture.

@@raindances3310 Tough choices, both great for different reasons. You could always do a stopover in Nica on your way to Paraguay. But IMO you have to either live in a place for at least a few months or take the advice of someone who has. Good luck with your research. Paraguay is definately no longer a secret. Our hope is that the info we provide will encourage those who are suited to this path whilst equally discouraging those who aren't up to it. This life is not for everyone, and we always try to show the reality rather than sell the dream.

I haven't seen a lot of large gap relationships here. Paraguay is very different to places like the Philippines, Thailand etc.
