The 2022 Nissan Frontier SV Is A Modern Version Of An Old School Truck

Поділитися
Вставка
  • Опубліковано 15 вер 2024
  • Until last year, the #NissanFrontier was the oldest brand new pickup truck you could buy in America. For 2022, #Nissan finally give the #Frontier the full redesign it deserved and while the look on the outside and inside is new, there is something about this #FrontierSV trim that still feels decidedly old-school in its delivery. For those of you who demand a traditional truck but in a more modern form, it’s certainly worth a consideration.

Happy Friday everyone! We hear that Nissan might be revealing a new, even more off-road capable version of the Frontier next month at the Chicago Auto Show. We will be there to bring you all the coverage live from the Windy City! Any ideas on what this more off-road ready version of the Frontier might be called?

Of course we all want to see and probably own the best version of vehicles and the features, but reality is not many can afford that.
It's great to see middle trims and even lower trims that surely are going to be volume sellers, unlike the loaded versions.

This is a mid size TRUCK!! This size used to be the Full Size back in the day. It’s not an SUV or AWD vehicle…it’s a truck! Glad they kept it simple in the changes. I love this new frontier; I loved the previous style as well. It’s rugged looking and yes, it’s simple. I love the fact that Nissan stayed with a V6; none of this turbocharged 4 cylinder crap. A truck needs at least a V6. This has got a nice big naturally aspirated 3.8 liter V6 with 310 horsepower and 281 Ft Lb of torque. I love it. Nothing like a powerful naturally aspirated V6. PERFECT!

All these complaints just sound like something an old truck would have and are all the same reasons that Nissan has such a following for these relatively simple trucks.

I've had two Frontier's and a Colorado. I'd stick with a Nissan any day. However, the pricing on the new semi-opulent midsize trucks has become extreme across the board with Nissan, Ford, Chevy, GMC, Toyota and Honda. I've also owned F-150's (4) and a Ram. In my opinion, considering what you will be required to pay for these vehicles, the full-size trucks make far more financial sense. They have better comfort, more space, more power and nearly equal fuel efficiency. I truly wonder if these new midsize trucks will price themselves out of existence?

    • @tomdavis3038

I like the ride, power and ergonomics better. The drivertrain is excellent and I don’t have any issue with the steering feel. The only criticisms I have are Nissan deleted the bottom cargo rails which were handy for tying down lumber to, also I don’t like the location of the start button. I was VERY happy to see it was available as a King Cab (like my current Frontier) and that you weren't forced to sacrifice useful cargo space for useless passenger space. I could get it as a base model with painted steel wheels, and in a plain refrigerator white, which I also liked. Then we came to the one thing that my 98 Frontier has that I couldn't get on this one, and it's a deal breaker for me. There's no manual transmission option. That, and that alone means I will keep on driving my old truck as long as I can since I simply HATE driving automatics.

I owned 2 gen 2 Frontiers and I loved those trucks, mainly for the excellent value they offered. Unfortunately Nissan has made this gen 3 redesign way too expensive. Also, if you want the 6ft LWB version like I would get, several basic features (LED headlights, heated seats/steering wheel, sunroof, etc) aren't available at all...and no telescoping steering wheel either. Huge fail on Nissan's part to omit such basic items from the LWB truck. I would definitely purchase a SV LWB if I could get those features, but this is a hard pass for me. Come on Nissan!

Comes standard with a V6 at $28k so it's still a pretty good value. The Taco starts at $32k with a V6. Although I do agree they should have added pretty basic features like a telescoping steering wheel. That's a huge oversight that is pretty inexpensive to include.

Man i just don’t agree with the price. $42k for the SV and not even a Pro4x. In my opinion, Nissan will be successful when the price is cheaper than a tacoma. For those prices you can buy a trd pro almost. I love the look and the power and will probably choose this over a tacoma, but still!

I had a 2014 4x4 SV, which for the most part is the same truck you got. You have newer electronics and I believe the 3.8L engine instead of the 4.0L, but otherwise it’s gonna be similar in how it drives. I literally never needed 4 wheel drive, even when I took it in 8 inch deep snow and up some very questionable dirt roads that lead into places no car should ever go (one of those ended in a sandy, muddy creek bed and I had to drive into that to have room to turn around). The truck went in and came out in rear wheel drive only, every single time. Had it 5 years and traded for an SUV with more interior space. I miss the truck, but the SUV serves my current needs better. But as trucks go, the Frontier was the most capable vehicle I’ve ever owned, on and off road. And again, not to overstate it, but I know I only engaged 4x4 mode less than 10 times in 5 years, and that was literally just for the novelty of using it and to feel it working. It wasn’t needed at all. Something about that design just made it as stable as could be, and allowed it to just GO in the snow, mud, sand, even standing water. I think knowing I had 4x4 mode if needed gave me confidence to drive into places like that, but once I found out that the truck would go I just never saw a need to engage it. And it went without issue continually, and I went off-road a good bit, and had three different snow storms where snow was around 8”, and plenty more in the 3”-6” ranges. Never an issue! So enjoy owning this truck, it has the ability to go even without 4x4.

Just bought this truck in the long wheel base version to replace my 20 year old Toyota Tundra. The LWB Frontier is actually as big or bigger than my Tundra in almost every dimension except 3 inches narrower in the Nissan. When I test drove the Frontier it felt exactly like a modernized version of a 1st gen Tundra. Perfect. The current Tacoma is gutless for towing with an overly busy transmission and really bad driving position. The new Tundra is officially a bro-dozer with it's enormous dimensions, cartoonish styling, and questionable twin turbo engine. Sadly, Toyota lost me as a customer. The Frontier is the truck I wish Toyota would have made.

This is the big problem with "tester vehicles". Some options and specs on the tester, never make it to vehicles the public actually ends up buying. The LED headlights, driving lights, rear brake lights AND leather interior (fake or real) are not available on the SV trim in 2024. And from what I can see on used trucks, they weren't available in 2022 either, without going up to the Pro-4X trim. This simple fact alone, pushes me away from the Frontier, because I don't want to buy a off-road spec'd truck for long term use, and Halogen lights have been outdated for years and years already.

I dove this truck yesterday, getting a truck ( so I can tow a smaller trailer) next year. going to look at other trucks, but this will be the frontrunner ( pun intended). steering more than a bit heavy at super low speeds , but at normal speed, its great and not numb like most electric racks feel there days. the ride is firm and seemed to be quiet. not too impressed with seats. still need to go back to look at King Cab. non turbo trucks are hard to find. yes, if you want junk buy a gm, otherwise its a Tacoma with a v6, but seems like going turbo next gen, so no go. Also Toyota dealers will likely make you pay way way above sticker, that is not happening.
I will be ables to order one exactly how I want, so no need to compromise or get unless options I don't want.
