- The arc tool can help you create some very unique shapes. You can create both open and closed arcs and work with the Arc slope live as you draw by using the up and down arrow keys. There's also a few other modifier keys you can use but you'll have to watch the video to find out what they are!

I used it a few times a long time ago and then rediscovered it about 6 months ago when I was playing around with some logo concepts - it's slowly becoming a favourite of mine!

It's one of those obscure tools that you probably won't use very often but every now and then it comes in handy! You can do most of this with the pen tool of course!

Thank you for helping me get started on learning how to use some of the various tools in illustrator. I'm currently trying to figure out how to make a monastery window in the program to make a logo with and I'm not at all familiar with any of the Adobe suite 😅

Where is the art board? picture is blurry. I want to select two endpoints and enter the radius, like in every other program
The artboard is the white area, it's whatever size you make it. I'm not sure what you mean by "the picture is blurry", check your settings I just watched again and looks fine here. The arc process you're looking for of selecting 2 points and then entering the radius doesn't exist in Illustrator out of the box. I can't say for sure but you may want to checkout Astute Graphics or other plugins to see if you can find this functionality.
What about creating a U shape? Is that a vector or some other type of shape? sorry beginner here:(

When I use the arrow keys after drawing an arc, it moves the whole shape up, down, left, or right. (Windows user)
Thanks for watching and for your question! The arrow keys only work while your drawing the curve. Click, hold your mouse button down and then use the arrows while still holding the mouse button.

What if i dont want to draw an arc, but trying to arc an existing line with path?
I tried using the Filter > ARC, but it only arcs the line but not the path
I think your only option here would be to add an anchor point with the pen tool and then drag that point or add two anchor points and then drag the line between the two points.
@MikePickettDesignCo wow, I have like over 200 achor points on my path.
I ended up redoing the whole imagine in photoshop, Arc it and then convert to vector path again. Haha. A little surprised illustrator can Arc a shape but the associated path doesn't Arc with the shape. Hmm thanks anyway :)
I can't believe I never knew of the arch tool till now oh my goodness. I've been cutting up circles this whole time just to get a good curve.

Just a comment. In the 'Arc Segment Tool Options', a 'Slope' value of 50 (plus or minus) will give an arc that is a circle or ellipse segment.

@@MikePickettDesignCo Well, you are giving so much in-depth details about how the arc-tool works, that I felt this little piece of information could be interesting for some of us too. For me, at least, this slope setting of '50' is important so that I know that my arcs will be exactly circular when pressing "SHIFT" while dragging.
When I click up and down arrows while using the Arc Tool the shape of the arc changes not by a little amount, but by a very large amount. How can I fix this?
You'll want to adjust the "Keyboard Increments" setting in your preferences.
@@MikePickettDesignCo Nope, still doesn't work (I changed from 1mm to 0,1mm and then to 0,01mm and nothing changed)
Alright, now it works but only when I use the mouse, when I use the pen of my graphics tablet, it's still not right.
Happy to hear it’s working - I can’t help with the tablet issue. You might want to get in touch with the tablet maker and see if they have advice. It appears that Illustrator is working the way it should from what you’ve said here.
How to set a specific angle with Arc Tool?
As this is an arc we're not dealing with angle degrees but slope. I would suggest looking up Geometry Arc Slope on Google for more details then once you have an understanding of that you can use the settings available by double clicking on the tool icon.

I'm running into trouble after making the arc, but not closing it like you did. How do you get rid of the white that is leftover within the arc?
I’m not sure what you mean by “the white that is left over”? If you mean there’s a white quarter circle make sure before you draw the arc your full color is set to none.

Do you mean the keyboard shortcut to access the arc tool? What version of Illustrator are you using?
