- I Bought The Cheapest Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen TDI on Facebook Marketplace.
Casually searching on fb marketplace for a new car for my wife, and I ran across this listing. 2011 Volkswagen Jetta TDI Sportwagen DSG, with 99k miles. Immediately ran out and bought the thing.
I think I got a pretty good deal, despite the repairs I had to make. What do you think?
Watch until the end to find out how much I paid for the car, and how much it cost me in repairs/upgrades.

Man oh man! This is an awesome videos I have a mk6 wagen as well, they are great cars hope you enjoy yours!
Thank You! I know these sometimes get some hate, but I love this thing. There are a few things I would have done differently, but overall it's a great vehicle.
nice! those tdi"s are nice and confy for what they worth but once dpf/egr codes start to appear, prepare for a nightmare. also timing belt, high pressure fuel pump, seized glow plugs, soot, super expensive oem parts and list goes on and on. i just gave up and traded my 2011 golf for a 2018 Civic and still getting 30-35 mpg highway lol. Good luck sir! awesome video btw!
Thanks! I've been pretty happy with the tdi, but I am coming up on the timing belt service. I've also got a small diesel leak and an emission code, so it's about time to do some more work on it.
Congratulations. A job very well done. Next, KermaTDI Tune!
Thank You! That's definitely on the list. Been putting it off because it seems that the good tune also necessitates the DSG tune as well. $$$
@@VHickleGarage I've had the Kerma Tune on my 2013 Golf TDI/DSG for 4 years now, no DSG tune and it runs and drives just fine. I don't see the DSG tune as a necessity.
@@kens.213 Good to know! I was just going based on what I had seen recommended on their site.
@@VHickleGaragewhile the DSG tune is not necessary it makes it a MUCH better driving experience. I wish I had done my DSG tune sooner and my wagon is basically stock. DPF/some emissions delete and stage 1.5 tune on the engine.
I hate as a mechanic getting a car that was never taken care of. So sad.
I wouldn't say this one was terribly neglected, but it did need a little love. People who can't do their own work are often faced with dumping the entire value of a used car back into it for just a few basic repairs, so it's not too surprising.
I see you are in Florida, can I bring my mk6 over by your place and have my dsg serviced? I don’t have any space to work with. I love your educated video…
At first I was like, uoh what at idiot buying a car full of water but as the video went on you proved to be pretty damn capable lol.
Lol both can be true.
The seller should have mentioned everything in his Ad or when you met him.. I feel he was dishonest.Great video
Thank You!
They should have, but for the price I knew there were going to be things wrong with it. People don't usually sell a car for less than half the BB value unless there's something wrong.
So it’s the sellers responsibility to protect you from you?
Welcome to America.

I bought mine for $1200 112k miles. Front bumper hood and fend damage.
Sounds like a great deal!
Great job! Very nice car 🚘
Thank you. I've been pretty happy with, despite the usual German car foibles.
Great informative video. Looking forward to more tdi vids
Awesome, thank you!
Did you check to see if the car is under the dieselgate warranty? They fix that flap code for free by replacing the whole manifold.
That's a good idea. I didn't think about it. I believe I am still under the Dieselgate warranty. I need to check again as I have an intermittent emissions code now. Would love to not have to fix it myself if I can make the dealer do it for free :)
Thank you for the video. I hope I can find a TDI to buy.
I have a 2011 vw JettaTDI sport wagon as well, the water is coming in from the roof gutters.. there is a clog behind the moon roof in the back
Super common on these. My biggest problem continues to be the lower part of the rear drains (wheel well) getting clogged up. VW should have added access panels to be able to service these drains without removing 1/2 the interior.
Anyone else that has a pano sunroof car. Go in the wheel well in the rear and trim the end of the drain hoses. They are closed off to not let dirt and bugs in through them. Same with the front. This will prevent leaks.
Good advice. As I showed mine were completely disconnected. Clean was good, but I'm glad I took the time to add a bit of adhesive as well. So far so good, they haven't popped off again yet.
@@VHickleGaragehe was referring to the exterior of the car. Behind the wheel where the water exits the car. The rubber boot is shaped like a one-way valve wedge. If you snip the end of that wedge off the water and crud can flow out for efficiently. Good video by the way!!! I've had my 2012 wagon for 100k miles and love it.
I've have 2 2011 Jetta TDIs mt
pan roof. My fix for the pan roof was replaced all the boots that are on the end of the hoses with 1/2 straight hose. clear with reinforced webing inside. Two of those factory boots where kinked.
The factory NAV units are known to have capacitors go bad. Replace that baby with a RCD330 and enjoy Android Auto and Apple Carplay like a real modern car!
My cheap Chinese knock off replacement has been doing ok. Lol of course Android Auto doesn't seem to work correctly on it though.
@@VHickleGarage Mine worked, but was buggy. Apple CarPlay is flawless though.
How is the head unit holding up?

Great job !!!!! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you so much 😀
The vacuum ! Remember when using it for water removal to pull the filter.
If I had been really smart I would have popped the plugs. I swear I tried and wasn't able to get them out, but I just did recently because it was filling up again.
Where did you get the bracket? How many miles on the Jetta and thank you for the video.
I got the bracket off Amazon: amzn.to/3sZnTwe 97,000 miles when I bought it, 107,000 now.
If your car is near 100k you need to also change that timing belt
Good point. From what I read the book recommends timing belt at 120k for the TDI so I still have a little time left.
That’s why I bought one without a sunroof. Nothin but trouble.
They're nice the few times you use them, but in reality they probably aren't worth the trouble. The rear drains are currently clogged up again. This time I might just cut access holes rather than remove half the interior again.
You definitely went deep to get it back up and flowing. But keeping it from getting clogged is next to impossible.
@@crabbyjimmy1 You would have thought the Germans would have figured that out lol. . . Or at least thought ahead and made it serviceable.
Wish we got to see the transmission svc.
This is one of the videos I watched before doing the trans service: ua-cam.com/video/UjxAQsePR7Q/v-deo.html
It's really not difficult, just be careful with the plastic tube inside the trans, under the drain plug. You'll also need to get (or 3d print like I did) the threaded fitting to be able to refill the trans. If you 3d print, just make sure to max out the infill. Mine broke off from printing it with with too much hollow space.
Next time open the plug drain
I want buy one but seller isn't responding
That's a bummer. Hope they finally responded or that you found another option.
I’ve got one for sale
What do you mean seat repair rust repair 0? Charge her!
😆 I was more so documenting the $$ outlay to make the repair.
@@VHickleGarage were just having a little fun. (But charge her bro!)
Great video!
4000$ not bad ( and better say that on first 5 second on video!)
Thanks. I thought it was a pretty good deal, and it continues to be a great vehicle.
Are you going to delete the emissions system/dpf?
Literally about to put that bracket on. How did you get the wiring harness out of the way? It's attached to a clip way down there and I'm afraid I'm going to break something.
Which bracket?
@@VHickleGarage The bracket that goes on the intake flap motor. I'm having trouble getting the motor out because the wiring harness is in the way.
@@mikeb3419 I just unplugged it and pulled the wiring back as far as I could. It's a bit of a puzzle but I was able to rotate it and get it out. .just try not to drop that spring.
Any chance you remember how to pull the side panels out of the cargo area? I am hung up on one spot towards the front of the panel, near the slot of the rear seatbelt. There is one clip or screw there and I cannot get it to release.
I don't remember where every last one was now, but did you get all of the cargo floor pieces removed? I had a little trouble there. It was definitely a pain to get it all out.
Mine is leaking again, and I think I'm going to cut some access panels to get to the rear drains this time.
@@VHickleGarage thanks for the reply. Today I took the rear seat out and the entire cargo floor and was able to sort it all out. Where did you draw power and ground from for your camera? I tried to tap into the harness for the lights in the rear and I don’t think it gives enough current. If I hook up the power and ground to a 12 VDC power supply everything works as it should. Appreciate any help.
@@dandyscorner Glad you got it figured out. It's definitely a PITA. I pulled power from the 12v outlet in the cargo area.
can you pls confirm that the link for the radio is correct? thanks (2012 Jetta TDi sports wagon 6 speed manual)
The link is correct. . .Although i bellieve last I checked it was unavailable on Amazon. Hizpo is the brand. If you can't find it on Amazon you can try AliExpress, they had several options for more powerful versions of it, if you're willing to spend more $$.
How much was it?
Paid $4k, then spent about $1,200 on tires and repairs.
**dramatic inhale** I just bought the cheapest volkswagen...
